Sweet Tea/Pumpkin Pie Music Festival - October 5-7, 2012

Sweet Tea Pumpkin Pie music festival (STPPFest) is DC's BIGGEST music festival and is right around the corner - October 5-7, 2012.
Even though, STPPFest happened twice last year with 125+ bands included in each festival, it was obvious that planning two festivals of that size was a little too ambitious so STPPFest organizer, Dave Mann, decided that out of the two festivals, the one that was held in the fall made more sense due to how comfortable the weather was plus the fact that Columbus Day follows the fest so assuming that the attendees (and band members) had the next day off on Columbus Day then people could treat that Sunday like a Saturday without having to call it a night at 10pm.
This year STPPFest plans on hosting 200+ bands (singer/songwriters included) at 12+ various venues throughout DC.
Adams Morgan businesses are hosting live music and it's all FREE!
Stay in Adams Morgan and enjoy music at:
The Black Squirrel, Mellow Mushroom, Columbia Station, Heaven (formerly known as Heaven & Hell), and Dahlak. Heaven offers multiple stages in their three story building so that'll help out with the number of bands who are playing this year. The rest of the venues/line-ups can be found via: www.stppfest.com
The majority of the music genres fall under the umbrella of rock and roll but what makes STPPFest different from other festivals is that we feature lots of "under the radar" and upcoming bands who might have huge followings elsewhere but have not been able to tap into the DC scene.
We help make space available for the out-of-town bands because more than anything, we want to expose them (and their amazing music) to a new audience that will make it easier for them to return to DC.
We are really excited to have local bands on board to support this festival also. We do not rely on them to bring out the crowd as we believe that this festival showcases an immense amount of talent. Local bands are 100% vital to keeping this festival "local" and we want that same exposure for them as well. There is nothing like a local band not having to always depend on their friends to show them support and furthermore, when local bands are able to attract new fans, that only helps out with the awareness of the local music scene which is really vibrant here in DC.
Lastly, STPPFest has teamed up with Eventstir ( www.eventstir.com ) this year. Eventstir's platform is crowdfunding - if you are familiar with Kickstarter then know that Eventstir is similar but focuses more on events and getting people out to the events, etc. We are really excited to have them on board and all of the many tech companies that they have recruited to "own" the various venues throughout this fantastic Columbus Day weekend festival!
If you would like to help sponsor the event, please email us at stppfest (at) gmail (dot) com and we are also looking for volunteers as well.
Best,
Dave Mann

AMPBID Annual Meeting Election Process

At the October 11th Annual Meeting, BID members will have the opportunity to vote for candidates for 5 board slots: three property owners and two business owners. The board members currently holding those positions have been renominated for another term and have agreed to serve if elected.

Those are:

· Matt Wexler – Pharmacy Bar 2337 18th Street and Crumbs and Coffee 2700 Ontario Rd - property owner

· Kurt Meeske – Combined Properties – CVS Pharmacy, 7-11 and Game Stop 1755 - 1759 Columbia Road – property owner

· Constantine Stavropoulos – Tryst 2459 18th Street and The Diner 2453 18th Street – business owner

· Brian Vasile – Grand Central 2447 18th Street – business owner

AMPBID Annual Meeting Election Process

Each person eligible for election as a member of the Board may be nominated by: 1) the nominating committee, or 2) by a member petition submitted to the Chair of the Nominating Committee (Arianne Bennett) at least 30 days prior to the date of the meeting (THE NOMINATION PERIOD IS NOW CLOSED AND NO ADDITIONAL NOMINATIONS OR PETITIONS WERE RECEIVED); provided that only business owners can nominate business owners and property owners can only nominate property owners and a petition shall require the signature of no less than ten (10) members to nominate a member of the Board. Each nominee either shall be present at the annual meeting or shall consent to such nomination by a written document.

Voting

Per the by-laws, any properties for which BID taxes are over 60 days delinquent, may not vote nor may they nominate members to the board.

For each class of member, the ballot will list all the candidate names, and members will vote for the number of open slots in that category. For example, there are two business owner slots. All members will have the opportunity to vote for two candidates from the list of all business owner candidates.

Proxies

Proxy votes are allowed.

Pursuant to the BID bylaws, those interested in voting in the board elections by proxy can either contact the BID to request a proxy form, or can develop their own form, as long as it includes: the date of the meeting at which it is applicable (October 11) full names, addresses and the dated signatures of both the individual issuing the proxy and the witness(es) to the signature. The proxy voter can be anyone to whom the property or business owner designates to vote for them and DOES NOT have to be a member of the Adams Morgan Partnership BID. All proxy forms must meet all these criteria to be accepted.

The BID will have a proxy form available by fax, mail and by email.

Any questions on this process, please call Kristen at the BID office 202-997-0783 or email her at: Kbarden@adamsmorganonline.org .
