District Bridges Partners with DC Shop Small for DC Dog Days : An Event To Encourage Virtual Shopping Across the District!

Dog Days DC will take place online on Saturday, August 8th and Sunday, 9th. Businesses across the District are encouraged to participate, and many will be offering special sales, gifts with purchase, discounts, and more. Business owners must sign up to participate using this form and have an online e-commerce presence (products sold online can be anything from gift cards, retail products, electronic services, and carryout/delivery food options). To assist businesses who are not currently using an e-commerce platform, District Bridges will put together a webinar on its educational platform Access Point to help business owners get started.

The Adams Morgan Partnership is an organizational partner with the event this year and is encouraging neighborhood businesses to participate. It is FREE for businesses to participate . We will be promoting the participating businesses via social media and our consumer email list.

Announcing 5th Round of LISC Small Business Relief Grants

LISC is now accepting applications TODAY, Monday, July 27 for its fifth grant round; the deadline is August 3rd.

LISC Small Business Relief Grant

LISC national office has opened up a fifth round of its small business grant funding, and is accepting applications through Monday, August 3. In the past four rounds, 8-12 DC businesses have received grants and we expect that trend to continue in this next round.

• Grants will be made in amounts ranging from $5,000 to $20,000. Here is the link to apply .
• Priority is given to entrepreneurs of color/women/veteran owned businesses
• A subset of the funding is being directed specifically to women and people of color owned salons, barbershops and child care centers.
• Award winners are selected via a lottery process.

The new deadline to apply for a Paycheck Protection Program loan is August 8, 2020. If you have any questions or are unsure whether or not you qualify, please contact us for assistance.

DC Paid Family Leave and Covid

Employers have been paying into Paid Family Leave since last year. As of July 1, employees can file claims with the Office of Paid Family Leave.

Update from RAMW

To encourage public health and safety and ensure we keep moving forward, Mayor Bowser issued a new Executive Order requiring people to wear a mask when they leave their house. Businesses are now required to post signage on their exterior doors stating that a person may not enter unless the person is wearing a mask. Click here for signage from the city. In addition, the business, office building, or other establishment shall exclude or attempt to eject persons who are not wearing masks or who remove their required masks. Guests of your restaurants are ONLY permitted to remove the mask when they are actually eating or drinking, which means guests and employees MUST wear a mask at all other times whether indoors or outdoors.

We recognize that this can put you in the difficult position of enforcer, and we encourage you to have additional signage throughout your restaurant reminding people of the proper protocol. If you are having trouble with a patron who is refusing to abide by the mask and social distancing rules, we encourage you to proactively reach out to either ABRA or DOH. If you have a liquor license you can email ABRA at abra.enforcement@dc.gov or call them at 202-329-6347. If you do not have a liquor license, you can contact DOH at food.safety@dc.gov.

Possible Phase 2 Dial Back

Leaders from across the region have been keeping a close eye on the public health data. If numbers don’t come down in the next several days, we may need to take appropriate dial back steps to manage the spread of the virus.

We know it is rare to ever have the luxury of time to plan for much in our industry, however we do encourage you to use this week to consider what adjustments need to be made as VA, DC and MD assess the potential need to dial back.

It is still uncertain as to IF and WHAT that dial back may look like, however most of the discussions related to our industry are rooted in restrictions for indoor dining. We will know more in the days to come and trust that we will share, as we always do, new information and guidance issued. As much as humanly possible, we want you using this information, albeit not confirmed, to take this time to plan for dialing back to an outdoor dining and take out/delivery model.

If the health data works to our advantage, we will remain where we are, but we want you to be able to prepare for all scenarios. No one wants to dial back, so careful consideration is being taken as decisions are made.

Urgent Opportunity to Weigh-in at the DC Council

Here’s the good news: The DC Council rolled back more than $18 million in new taxes they had recently approved AND found acceptable ways to trim spending increases that do not impact important social safety net programs. But there’s still a crucial final budget vote THIS TUESDAY, July 28 .

The DC Business Toolkit

If you have not gotten the chance yet, check out the DC Business Toolkit. The DC Business Toolkit is an interactive online portal that centralizes the vast number of business assistance resources that are available citywide through DSLBD, sister agencies and service providers. This allows District businesses and residents exploring entrepreneurship to quickly find and use these tools to open, operate and grow their business in the District of Columbia.

Additionally, the DC Business Toolkit helps businesses promote themselves to prospective customers and make unique B2B connections with local vendors. Some examples of business assistance resources include funding, classes, forms, regulatory guidance, coaching.

REMINDER: Deadline Extension for License Payments and Expirations, and Fines is July 31

Due to the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Board extended several March license expirations and fee, fine, and statement filing deadlines in early April, and then again in May and June.

• Annual license payments: Payments due between March 31 – June 30 are now due July 31.
• Alcohol license expirations: Licenses, including ABC Manager Licenses, set to expire from March 16 – June 30 are now valid until July 31.
• Fines: Fines due between March 1 – June 30 are now due by July 31.
• Quarterly Statements for Hotels and Restaurants: Quarter 1 statements due by April 30 are now due on July 31; Quarter 2 statements are still due on July 30.

Payments may be submitted by postal mail, placed in our secure self-service drop box located immediately outside our lobby doors, or paid over the phone. Our office location and mailing address is 2000 14th Street NW, Suite 400 South, Washington DC  20009.

A few guidelines to keep in mind:

• Checks (no starter checks), cashier’s check, and money order, must be made payable to the “D.C. Treasurer”.
• Credit card payments may be made over the phone. To coordinate a payment by phone, email abc@dc.gov. Include your first and last name, license number, and daytime phone number. A staff member will contact you on the provided number to process your payment.
• Do NOT include credit card information in any email or voicemail message.
• Do NOT include cash with any mailed or dropped off paper application. Cash is not an accepted form of payment.

Please note that while ABRA’s physical office remains closed to the public, our staff is available to answer your questions Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at (202) 442-4423 or abc@dc.gov.
