AdMo Vibe concert series debuts August 3
|
We're excited to be launching a new concert series at 6pm on Wednesday evenings in Kalorama Park beginning in August. We'll be sharing more details soon but in the meantime we want restaurants to know WE will be encouraging attendees to order takeout food and bringing it to the performance much like we do with Adams Morgan Movie Nights. The Adams Morgan Farmers Market is open for the season on
Saturdays from 8:30am – 1:00pm
, rain or shine, at UNITY PARK, Columbia Rd and Euclid St. NW. The market will be open every Saturday through December.
Music at the Farmers Market
With help from a grant from the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), we have hired a musician, Heidi Martin, to perform at the farmers market on Saturdays. In addition to playing folk music and jazz, she will also set aside a couple sets for children's music and will have instruments with her so they can participate. Heidi began as lead 3’s teacher with a joyous circle time. “Music 2Little Ears” grew into a creative set of children’s music performances, classes and private lessons. She is also a DC Jazz Festival Education Coordinator and a professional vocalist and composer.

This is your chance to weigh in on the forthcoming streatery guidelines.
DDOT invites DC restaurant owners and managers to attend one of two virtual information sessions to learn about and provide feedback on the draft guidelines for a permanent Streatery Program to allow outdoor dining in the roadway and alleys past the COVID-19 pandemic. The

. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and provide comments about the future of outdoor dining in the District.

Hosted by the Mayor's Office of Nightlife and Culture (MONC), DC Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEMA), the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), the DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department (FEMS), and the Mayor's Office on Volunteerism and Partnerships (Serve DC), this training will focus on key areas of safety for your organization or business.
The afternoon session, starting at 2pm, will be designed specifically for the nightlife industry.
Tickets are reserved for those from this community to build resilience and preparedness for their community or institution.
For both sessions, registration will take place on the 5th floor, where individuals can check in and subsequently enter the auditorium where the training itself will take place.

Multi-Agency Nightlife Task Force Town Halls
|
Please join the Mayor's Office of Nightlife and Culture (MONC) in collaboration with the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice (DMPSJ), and the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) to discuss Mayor Muriel Bowser’s Multi-Agency Night Life Task Force initiative.
For the month of July, we are hosting weekly Town Halls to discuss public safety in specific nightlife corridors. Please see the schedule below. We would like to hear feedback from business owners and residents. Hope to see you there.

Tax season is getting more complicated for small businesses
|
The minimal reporting threshold for peer-to-peer payment platform transactions has decreased from $20,000 (or 200 transactions) to just $600, because of a provision in the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. That means that businesses that use platforms like Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, and even storefronts like Etsy and eBay can expect to receive 1099-K forms for 2022. To be clear, businesses have always been obligated to report their income to the IRS--but this new law may open up more businesses to audits if they don't correctly report their earnings.

The Mayor’s Office of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning Affairs (MOLGBTQA) is excited to be conducting a study of the economic health of LGBTQ+-owned businesses and other businesses that serve the DC LGBTQ+ community.
Recognizing that the LGBTQ+ community thrives when we have access to spaces to come together, the study will also collect data on the current state of LGBTQ+ Community Businesses’ ability to host gatherings and events.

Are You Complying with Local Ordinances?
|
If you are a DC employer with 20 or more employees, this is for you. To avoid being fined, make sure your organization is in compliance with the District’s local transportation ordinances such as the DC Commuter Benefits Law and the NEW DC Parking Cashout Law.
DC Commuter Benefits Law
Established in 2014, the DC Commuter Benefits Law requires DC businesses with 20 or more employees to offer commuter benefits such as a pre-tax transit benefit, transit/vanpool subsidy, or shuttle/vanpool service at no cost to employees.

DC Parking Cashout Law
Established in 2020, the DC Parking Cashout Law (aka Transportation Equity Amendment Act of 2020) requires DC businesses with 20 or more employees that provide free or subsidized parking to offer a Clean Air Fringe Benefit, develop a transportation demand management (TDM) plan, or pay a Clean Air Compliance fee. The first reporting requirement for this law is on January 15, 2023.

New Law Spotlight: Reopen Washington DC Alcohol Act
July 19, 10:30 am
ABRA will provide a review of key provisions included in the new law signed by Mayor Muriel Bowser including new alcohol license types and expanded consumer and business opportunities. The session will address: extending the streatery program through 2023; creating new alcohol licenses, including a commercial lifestyle license and third-party delivery license; permitting doggie bags of spirits at restaurants and hotels; and eliminating select application requirements such as notarization.
