Today in DC, Mayor Bowser and Police Chief Contee gave a situational update on the unfortunate and concerning violence we’ve seen recently in many neighborhoods across the city. The Mayor stressed the critical importance of the city being fully reopened, offices staffed in person, and all government agencies being 100% fully staffed and back in person to offer needed resources and support to address the problem at hand. This includes the ability for MPD to offer overtime as much as needed and to fully restaff police to ensure public safety which is a priority. Furthermore, the more vibrant and lively our city, streets, outdoor dining, and daily traffic to and from offices are, the more our city returns to normal. And we know from past experience that this helps support a reduction in crime. Since our last message, we heard from some of you who are interested in being part of conversations we are planning to meet with Chief Contee and MPD. This will happen in the next two weeks and we will send meeting details to any of you who email us at

to express your interest in participating. This will be an in person meeting so understanding numbers of attendees will be important.
On public health, we know some of you are wondering about the CDC’s updated guidance this week recommending that those who are vaccinated should return to wearing masks in schools and in public indoor spaces in parts of the country where the virus is surging or has noted high levels of transmission. This is of course a turn from what they were recommending two months ago when mask ordinances in most areas of the country followed guidance to stop requiring masks for those vaccinated. As of now, none of our local jurisdictions have taken any steps to change any current government requirements in terms of mask wearing. DC Health released an update yesterday stating that they are reviewing the CDC recommendations in regard to mask wearing. Elected officials in all our local jurisdictions encouraged everyone to prioritize getting vaccinated, but no other official updates have been announced. For those who may be seeking information on getting vaccinated, the easiest approach at this point is to visit
www.vaccines.gov
to search by zip code for walk-in or appointments near you as there are so many locations and options available now. As always, IF your business chooses to require masks for all guests and/or staff you are free to do so and ask that patrons and employees adhere to the rules of your establishment.

As we talk about indoor activities and masks, we wanted to give you a heads up now that our 2021 RAMMY Awards celebration taking place on September 19 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center will be a
vaccination-required event for all attendees
. This is true for finalists, sponsors, vendors, staff, media, and all guests hoping to participate. As the Delta variant is of concern and with the CDC guidance shared this week, it is important that if your intent is to be there you should get vaccinated NOW, and you should share this information with anyone on your team who may be planning to attend, or who you may be planning to invite. Vaccination verification will be required pre-event. We will share details around this electronic verification process soon.

The beloved Adams Morgan Farmers Market is now operating at Unity Park in front of The LINE Hotel DC. Unity Park is the triangle park at the confluence of Columbia Rd., Champlain St., and Euclid St., NW. The market is celebrating its 49th year in the neighborhood. The market will be open from 8:30am - 1pm on Saturdays through Christmas.
Parking around the park will be restricted from 5am - 3pm on Saturdays for the market to allow for the vendors' trucks --

Comcast RISE grant program is accepting applications until July 31
|
Comcast launched its Comcast RISE (Representation, Investment, Strength, and Empowerment) program in late 2020 to help support small businesses that have been hit hardest by the economic impact of the pandemic. The program focuses on providing BIPOC-owned small businesses with access to the tools and resources they need to survive the pandemic and thrive. Through this initiative, BIPOC-owned small businesses will gain access to services including marketing, media, and technology.
To be eligible for the program, a small business must be:

SBA Briefing on New COVID EIDL: Small Business Loan Program
|
The U.S. Small Business Administration Office of Capital Access will host a webinar series for small business owners to discuss the COVID EIDL (Economic Injury Disaster Loan) program’s small business loans. The COVID EIDL program is a Federal small business loan program designed to support small businesses to recover from the COVID-19 economic recession by providing accessible, borrower-friendly capital.

SBA expected to soon launch new PPP Loan Forgiveness Portal
|
The Small Business Administration (SBA) is expected to launch a new portal this week which will accept Paycheck Protection Program loan forgiveness applications directly from business owners. The PPP Loan Forgiveness Portal will bypass lending institutions with the intent to expedite forgiveness process for the remaining 7.8 million loans, worth about $385.4 billion. This option will be available to borrowers with loans of $150,000 or less, which happens to be 95% of all loans issued in 2021.
SBA officials said in a webinar held earlier this week that applications in its portal will take just a few minutes to complete. While lenders will still be required to determine whether to approve forgiveness, the SBA shared its intent for launching the new portal is to streamline the process for borrowers and lenders.
The portal is expected to be launched on a pilot basis this week and to go live to all borrowers during the first week of August. For now, The

is currently only accepting and processing forgiveness decisions from lenders.
