Adams Morgan Movie Nights features Race on Tuesday, celebrating Juneteenth!
|
We are thrilled to announce the return of the award-winning, six-week movie series:
Adams Morgan Movie Nights
! Enjoy free movies every Tuesday evening through June 25 at the Marie Reed Elementary School Soccer Field at 18th Street NW and California Street NW. Movies will kick-off just after sunset at approximately 8:45pm. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to get a prime spot on the field which boasts tiered, amphitheater-style seating.

The news of Duplex Diner's demise has been greatly exagerated
|
Many of you have probably seen the news that Duplex Diner is closing down after more than 25 years in Adams Morgan.
The actual story
is that longtime GM Kelly Laczko is taking over the restaurant from the current lease holders and will be reopening (date TBD) with a similar vibe and run by the same crew. The only thing that will be leaving the neighborhood is the name.

New parking validation program for businesses with Colonial Parking Garage
|
Exciting news! The Adams Morgan Partnership BID is working with Colonial Parking to bring back our daytime parking validation program. The program will help drive foot traffic to Adams Morgan businesses during off-peak hours.
How it Would Work:

Participating businesses receive monthly validation stickers from Colonial Parking and provide them to customers upon request.

Customers park in the Colonial Garage during the day at a reduced rate, Monday through Friday (Cars must be out by 5 pm daily.)

Boosts daytime business while offering affordable parking options.

SWIMMING Public Art Project At Marie Reed Plaza
|
Bangladesh-American artist and climate activist Monica Jahan Bose will bring a massive art installation to Adams Morgan from June 7-20th. Featuring 22 blue Bangladeshi saris arranged to evoke a swimming pool and a huge wave, the SWIMMING public art project brings together communities in Washington DC and Bangladesh, speaking to the healing properties of water and swimming and inequities in access. Located at Marie Reed Plaza, the exhibition will be open 24/7 and visitors will use their phones to access a "VideoSoundwalk" with poetry and songs by the participants. The project explores the deep and essential connections we have to water as our world faces increased flooding, drought, and rising sea levels due to climate change. There will be multiple exciting events, including poetry slams and performances, film screenings, and site visits/artist talks. A short film about the project will be previewed as part of the Adams Morgan Movie Nights on June 18.

Clean Hands Public Hearing June 20
Clean Hands Certification Economic Expansion and Revitalization Amendment Act

McDuffie, in April, stopped by the RAMW Annual Meeting to discuss his proposal, which would remove Clean Hands certification as a requirement for obtaining or renewing a business or occupational license.

In Maryland, Virginia, and most other states, business licenses can be denied only for outstanding or unfiled taxes and unpaid child support. The District is one of the few places that blocks licenses for debt, including for owing $100 or more in parking tickets or water bills.

Tell Congress: No to Proposed Ban on Service Charges
