The Annual Meeting of the AMPBID will be Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at 5pm, at the Festival Center at 1640 Columbia Road, NW.
AMPBID Annual Meeting Election Process
At the October 18th Annual Meeting, BID members will have the opportunity to vote for candidates for 5 board slots: three property owners and two business owners.
The following board members have agreed to run for another term on the board:

Adam Crain
Bill Thomas
Arianne Bennett
C. Jonathan Wells
AMPBID Annual Meeting Election Process
Each person eligible for election as a member of the Board may be nominated by: 1) the nominating committee, or 2) by a member petition submitted to the Chair of the Nominating Committee (Jonathan Cho) at least 30 days prior to the date of the meeting (so additional nominations should have been received by September 18th); provided that only business owners can nominate business owners and property owners can only nominate property owners and a petition shall require the signature of no less than ten (10) members to nominate a member of the Board. Each nominee either shall be present at the annual meeting or shall consent to such nomination by a written document.
Voting
Per the by-laws, any properties for which BID taxes are over 60 days delinquent, may not vote nor may they nominate members to the board.
For each class of member, the ballot will list all the candidate names, and members will vote for the number of open slots in that category. For example, there are two business owner slots. All members will have the opportunity to vote for two candidates from the list of all business owner candidates.
Proxies
Proxy votes are allowed.
Pursuant to the BID bylaws, those interested in voting in the board elections by proxy can either contact the BID to request a proxy form, or can develop their own form, as long as it includes: the date of the meeting at which it is applicable (October 18) full names, addresses and the dated signatures of both the individual issuing the proxy and the witness(es) to the signature. The proxy voter can be anyone to whom the property or business owner designates to vote for them and DOES NOT have to be a member of the Adams Morgan Partnership BID. All proxy forms must meet all these criteria to be accepted.
The BID will have a proxy form available by fax, mail and by email.

We want your opinions on Metro's SafeTrack Early Closing Plan
WMATA's general Manager Paul J. Wiedefeld has proposed making the current early closing hours for METRO (that were supposed to be in effect only during the SafeTrack Program) permanent. The AMPBID is very concerned about how the plan will negatively impact Adams Morgan businesses, both for their employees and for their customers. We are planning on testifying in opposition to the proposal and want to get as much feedback from the community as possible to help make the case against making the reduced hours permanent.

Working with our friends from the Adams Morgan Farmer's Market, Licking Creek Bend Farms, we're bringing back the Adams Morgan Apple Festival for a second year. Last year's edition was a great success and good times were had by all. In addition to Licking Creek Bend Farm's Annual Heirloom Apple Tasting, we'll once again have an apple pie baking contest with local celebrities on hand to judge.

This year's festival was organized by an all-volunteer group of Adams Morgan residents and businesses who raised money, ran a gamut of city-permitting requirements, and tried to make it fun! They've started a new nonprofit -- The Adams Morgan Community Alliance -- to ensure our annual celebration continues. Woodley Park Station will be closed Saturday, 10/8, and Sunday, 10/9
I
mportant update from WMATA:
Woodley Park Station will be temporarily closed this Saturday and Sunday to allow contractors to make a warranty repair to one of the station's long entrance escalators. The closure is necessary because one escalator is currently barricaded by plywood due to a long-term replacement project, and the other two escalators must be turned off while the repairs are underway. Due to the depth of the station and the lack of an ascending escalator during the work, the station must be closed for safety reasons.
On Saturday and Sunday:

Red Line trains will pass through Woodley Park without stopping.
-
Free shuttle buses will operate in a continuous loop between Woodley Park and Cleveland Park Dupont Circle stations on Saturday and Sunday.

In addition, Woodley Park customers can use L2 Metrobus service, which runs along Connecticut Ave NW and serves the following Metrorail stations: Van Ness, Cleveland Park, Woodley Park, Dupont Circle and Farragut North.
Metro's escalator contractor, KONE, will replace a faulty bearing in the main drive gear that moves the steps. Woodley Park Station will reopen at 5 a.m. Monday, October 10.

The project budget of $20,000 is all-inclusive and must account for all expenses associated with the complete design and fabrication of the proposed mural. This includes, but is not limited to, design process and meetings, preparing the site wall, insurance during the creation of the mural, permitting for any required scaffolding, all equipment and supplies needed, and protective anti-graffiti coating for the mural.
Background from the Alley Cat Allies RFP:
Out of a chance encounter in the summer of 1990, a cat revolution was born. Alley Cat Allies’ founder Becky Robinson discovered a colony of cats living in an alley in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington, D.C. At that time, those fighting to protect community cats had to endure widespread ignorance and an entrenched shelter system where the majority of cats were killed (AKA euthanized).
Robinson was called to speak for those with no voice. Her dedication launched the organization that inspired the nation’s cat advocacy movement from the ground up. The colony of 54 cats who resided in this alley were adored by the local residents. After veterinary care, including neutering, vaccinations, and an eartip (to identify they were in a managed colony), they lived long lives with no new litters of kittens. They are now deceased. This practice is known as Trap-Neuter-Return. TNR is the proven, effective population control approach for community cats.
In the 26 years since, Alley Cat Allies continues to be the fearless leader in the movement to save all cats—pet, stray, feral, and every cat in between. Alley Cat Allies brought this issue into the American mainstream, and inspired a worldwide call for humane policies.
Every day, Alley Cat Allies works to radically reform the shelter system to end the killing of all cats, and champions TNR as the humane and effective approach to community cats. Through hands-on, grassroots advocacy, we change minds and transform communities across the nation to protect cats and the people who care for them. We have a dedicated staff of 40. Our supporters are more than half a million strong and growing.
We seek to commemorate Alley Cat Allies with a mural in the alley where the colony of cats lived who inspired our 26 plus years of saving lives.

This nationally-recognized, well-regarded, and highly-recommended staff training program is appropriate for all license classes, venue types, and venue sizes – including bars, restaurants, and nightclubs – and for both security personnel and management team leadership, as well as operators and managers.
The sessions run from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. each day and will be held at Shadow Room, at 2131 K Street NW. Participants must attend both training days for certification.
This bar, restaurant, and nightclub security training program has been reviewed by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA), and the District's Office of the Attorney General (OAG). NSC has trained over 800 local bar, restaurant, and nightclub security staff and managers over the past 5 years using the HOST Security training program and helping operators lower their overall liquor liability. Staff certification can also result in lower insurance rates.
Hospitality Operations Security Techniques (HOST) training is a comprehensive program designed specifically for all hospitality establishments – including all bars, restaurants, and nightclubs – and is designed for all operational and security staff, managers, and operators.
The program covers a wide array of Security Plan Topics essential for your establishment's operations and staff communications. The training will also teach venue employees the laws, rules, and best practices in security.
DC Circulator Expands Service for SafeTrack Surges
(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation today announced plans to provide additional hours of operation on the DC Circulator to offset WMATA's SafeTrack service reductions. The expanded service will begin Sunday October 2. This will assist riders during SafeTrack Surge 10, which will eliminate Red Line service between Fort Totten and NoMa from October 29 through November 22, 2016. The expanded DC Circulator service is designed to provide travelers with additional commuting options.
The following changes will be made beginning Sunday, October 2, 2016:
Morning service on the Woodley Park-Adams Morgan-McPherson Square, the Georgetown-Union Station and the Dupont- Georgetown-Rosslyn routes will begin an hour earlier at 6 am Monday through Friday.
Late night service will be extended on the Georgetown-Union Station and the Dupont-Georgetown- Rosslyn routes until 3 am Friday and Saturday instead of 2 am. The Woodley Park-Adams Morgan-McPherson Square will continue to run until 3:30 am. Late night service on the Georgetown-Union Station route will be extended to run the full length of the route. Currently, the bus stops at McPherson Square Metro after 9 pm.
