Adams Morgan PorchFest is coming October 6!

Last year we broke all the records with over 45 bands playing in a single afternoon around Adams Morgan and this year will be even better! We are still looking for musicians, singers, and bands who are interested in participating, so if you or someone you know is interested, please send them our way. Please note this is an unpaid gig, but we can offer you exposure to the thousands of visitors who attend PorchFest every year as well as an invitation to the private after-party. Interested musical acts can send links (not files) to video or audio of performances to Brian Barrie at bbarrie@adamsmorganonline.org .

Adams Morgan Partnership BID Member Survey 2018
Below is a link to a survey for all members of the Adams Morgan Partnership BID. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey. It will help us provide better services to the businesses and property owners.
Our summer intern, Abigail Hughes, is distributing paper copies of the survey around the neighborhood and will be compiling the results. Abbey is a rising senior studying communications at Allegheny College in Pennsylvania and will be with us until August.

We will be featuring:

  • APRICOTS - The last of the crop. If you haven't had these amazing fruits, now's the time. First crop in this area in 6-7 years! $6.00/qt
  • SANTA ROSA PLUMS - These are the sweetest of the logal sugar plums. $6.00/qt
  • PRISTINE APPLES - First of the local crisp and "sweet" apples. $5.00/qt. Also the last of the wintery GOLD RUSH - $6.00/qt
  • WHITE NECTARINES - these have an amazingly sweet taste - $6.00/qt
  • BLUEBERRIES - This is the last picking for this year. $4.00/pt
  • DONUT PEACHES - First crop picking! Very sweet.
  • Plus lots of veggies and baked goods.

Don't forget to bring BAGS.

The 2018 CSA SESSION 2 is rapidly approaching!

We hope you will want to be a part of our CSA, visit our farm to see where your food is grown, and be a part of the voices speaking out to preserve healthily grown local food and cherish access to the wonders our earth produces.

WHY A CSA
The intent of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is to partner with the farmer by providing a cash flow to enable the farmer to purchase seeds, hire staff, prepare equipment, plant, nurture and harvest. All of this happens months before the farmer can begin to get income from the sale of produce. The pre-purchase of membership gives the farmer a good sense of how much of our yield is needed for the CSA, which is critical to a smooth operation.

  • There are 3 sessions left to this season - August-September; October; and November.
  • You can sign up for the entire season or by session. Either way, you need to pay before the session begins. So we encourage you to plan accordingly. Early bird prices apply for the whole season.
  • You will get a reminder about two weeks before the beginning of each session, so you should have plenty of time to get your payment to us.

Membership Fee
We are not changing the prices from the last three years even though our costs have risen across the board on seeds, equipment, salaries, etc.! Please check the attached Membership Form for the prices.

Early Bird

If you start off with the early bird price, we will honor that throughout the season if we get your payment before each session begins. If not, then the regular price will apply for that session. If you will be new this season, and you sign up before AUGUST 1, we will honor the early bird price.


Pro-rating

If you know before you pay that you won't be picking up on particular dates, pro-rate your amount and make sure you write on your form the dates you will not pick up. That is essential for our weekly counts. The Membership Form lists the fees.

Credit

  • We do not give cash refunds. As is our practice, if you let us know in enough time you will not be picking up that week, we will give you credit towards the next session. Enough time means, before Monday for the Tuesday pickups and before Friday for Saturday pickups.
  • If you just forget to pick one week, we donate your share to a good cause.
  • Obviously, emergency situations are different so please let us know and we will make adjustments. The best reason we've had for not picking up was, "I'm so sorry, I went into labor Saturday morning".
  • Below are explanations of how we work and disclosures so hopefully, there won’t be confusion during the season about credit, pickup hours and details for the individual market pickups, etc.
  • How we operate weekly

To understand why we need to know the numbers each week, here is how we operate:

  • We call the farm the day before each pick up - Friday morning (before 7am) for our Saturday CSAs. The staff first pick for the CSA. Then the staff picks for our markets and wholesale. So, if we don't have the correct number, we either don't have enough for the CSA, or we have extra that could have been used at our markets for sale. That is why it is so important we have the correct number.

Pick up hours

  • We encourage you to try to pick up as soon as possible especially when it is really hot. We keep what we can in water or on ice, and we mist, but the heat can be brutal, as you know, so the sooner you can get your produce in the refrig or inside, the better it will keep for the week.
  • If you need to be late, please let us know (for market pickups, we can't stay longer than it takes up to pack up). And for Takoma Park pickups, PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO TAKE YOUR NAME TAG SO WE KNOW YOU HAVE PICKED UP.
  • The best way to contact us on pick up days is by phone. 301 587-1739 (home) or 240 505-6281 or 6282 (cells). On market days, we rarely have time to check email so phone calls are best.
  • If someone else will be picking up, even with their good intentions, they often forget, so please give us their contact information.

SATURDAY PICK UPS:

Adams Morgan market CSA pickups start around 9:00am until about 1:00pm. The sooner we can pack up and leave, the sooner we can bring the CSA to the Takoma Park pickup! You can call 240 505-6282, 6281 or 717 491-6842.

Takoma Park pick up starts around 3:30pm and we'll keep it out until about 9:00pm. Again, the set up depends on how quickly we can get back from our morning market. Join Age Friendly DC

Age Friendly DC is a World Health Organization program administered through AARP that aims to make the district a more livable, affordable, safe, and easier place for persons 50+ to grow into and to live. There are three pillars: Built Environment, Changing Attitudes about Growing Older, and Lifelong Health and Security. There are 14 domains within these three pillars that cover a variety of topics, such as housing, transportation, financial security, and many more.


The Business Initiative is an additional program that aims to highlight and recognize businesses that are age friendly. We are searching for businesses with practices in place that match or compliment age friendly best practices, such as age inclusive services, facilities, and products. We are actively seeking for more businesses to join this program so we can highlight their age friendly practices and achievements!


The Business Initiative offers businesses networking opportunities through the receptions held by the Mayor and our corporate partners, it provides free advertisement opportunities through the Age Friendly DC website and possibly DCTV, and it plays into the corporate social responsibility in recognizing the business for its inclusiveness. Are You Prepared for the Red Line Shutdown?

Continuing through Monday, September 3 (Labor Day), Metro will close two stations on the Red Line , Rhode Island Ave and Brookland stations, for a major capital project.

During the 45-day project, Metro will return to Rhode Island Avenue Station to complete necessary structural repair work that began during SafeTrack. Rhode Island Avenue Station, Metro's oldest outdoor station, was closed on an emergency basis in 2016 when concrete fell from the aerial structure. Metro engineers stabilized the structure and performed additional remediation work during a SafeTrack surge in 2016 until permanent repairs could be completed.

The structural work, including rebuilding deteriorated platforms to improve ADA accessibility, requires that tracks be taken out of service to allow for demolishing existing structures, access to the construction area, and concrete pouring.

Free shuttle buses will replace trains between Fort Totten and NoMa-Galludet U, with reduced service across the Red Line. Customers should allow additional travel time and seek alternatives if traveling to or from the affected stations.
