The Annual
Adams Morgan Apple Pie Baking Contest
and the Annual Licking Creek Bend Farm Heirloom Apple Tasting returns on Saturday, October 18! The highly-anticipated community event will take place in front of The Line Hotel and directly across the street from the farmer’s market in Unity Park at Euclid and Champlain Streets NW.
The entry form for pie baking contestants will go live
on our website here
at noon on Wednesday, September 17
. There are only 16 available entry slots and those are typically all claimed
within minutes
of the form going live.

Grand Opening and Block Party of Sitar Next Door

Sitar Arts Center
invites the DC and surrounding community to a special ribbon cutting ceremony marking the grand opening of
Sitar Next Door
—a new, state-of-the-art creative space—and to a festive block party celebrating the Center’s 25th anniversary. The event will begin with the official ribbon cutting, symbolizing the opening of doors to expanded opportunities in arts education for DC youth. Immediately following the ceremony, guests are invited to enjoy a free block party featuring art, music, food, and activities for all ages. Students, families, neighbors, friends, and media are welcome to witness the unveiling of Sitar Next Door and celebrate the promise it holds for future generations.

Workshop: Poetry as Verbal Painting with Thu Anh Nguyen

Saturday, September 6; 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Leonardo Da Vinci said that, "painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen.” In this hands-on workshop, we will consider the interplay between painting and poetry by reading Ekphrastic poetry that was inspired by paintings, and using the art in the gallery to write our own Ekphrastic poetry. No experience with poetry or painting are required; just be open to looking at and creating beautiful art with words and images.

Pepco is in the early stages of a multi-year project to upgrade the Champlain Street Substation that was built in 1930. The project is expected to be completed by December 2028. For more information there is a flyer available for download
