Adams Morgan Pedestrian Zone returns Sunday with a
Halloween Preview!
|
The Adams Morgan Pedestrian Zone (AMPZ) is a car-free section of 18th Street between Kalorama and Columbia Roads, NW, and will run from 12:00 noon to 10pm on October 23.
The two previous editions of the AMPZ on August 21 and September 4 were great and we're excited to bring you AMPZ#3 this Sunday, October 23. The public response to the street closure has been overwhelmingly positive and we're preparing for even more participation at the next event.
🎃 We're encouraging businesses to decorate early and get into the Halloween spirit!
Dress up and do some trick-or-treating for candy from businesses throughout the AMPZ!
There will be free programing for everyone to enjoy including face painting, music, balloon art, magician, jugglers, fashion show,

Attention restaurants within the boundaries of the AMPZ
: Please encourage your guests and food delivery services to utilize the designated and staffed Pick-up/Drop-off (PUDO) zones located just outside the AMPZ. As a reminder, there will be 3 Pick-up/Drop-off (PUDO) zones to allow for both rideshare and food delivery vehicles to temporarily park/idle. These zones will be clearly marked with large sandwich board signs and will be actively monitored by TCOs to prevent vehicles from being parked for more than 10 minutes. The PUDO Zone locations are indicated on the attached map and are located at:

The DC Office of Planning is hosting a survey on their website to get the public's feedback on Streets for the People events including the Adams Morgan Pedestrian Zone. This feedback is very important to help inform future programs.

The Adams Morgan Farmers Market is open for the season on
Saturdays from 8:30am – 1:00pm
, rain or shine, at UNITY PARK, Columbia Rd and Euclid St. NW. The market will be open every Saturday through December.
Music at the Farmers Market in October
With help from a grant from the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), we have hired Charlie Reichert Powell to perform at the farmers market on Saturdays. Charlie is a guitarist, producer, and composer based in Baltimore. As a guitarist, he is embedded in the jazz and R&B scenes, explores free improvisation in various settings, and works regularly as a freelance session musician. He is currently attending Peabody Conservatory, where he studies with Matt Stevens and Marvin Sewell.

The IRS has issued a warning that some third-party companies are offering
bad advice about Employee Retention Tax Credit (ERTC)
to small businesses. As you know, restaurants were uniquely qualified for the Covid-related ERTC due to partial closure orders and/or revenue declines in 2020 and 2021. A properly filed ERTC is a terrific benefit for a restaurant, but an improperly filed ERTC refund could result in significant problems. Review our national partners’

Finally, we are receiving questions from many of you about the
DC harassment training requirement
that is part of the Tipped Wage Workers Fairness Amendment Act. We understand it is a burdensome and expensive requirement and we are sharing your concerns, frustrations and feedback with OHR and District officials. At this time, to our understanding, there are still no official guidelines for businesses on what you are required to do, outside of what we know through the trainer certification materials. There is also not an enforcement plan in place by DOES as of yet. The recommended date to have scheduled your first training is Dec. 31, 2022, though OHR indicated they are planning to push this to March 2023.
For those who want to jump on this and get the training done, there are trainings scheduled now with both virtual and in-person options. RAMW has trainers we are working with, but there are many trainer options at different price points which you can explore. RAMW trainers are hosting virtual training for employees and owner/operators on Nov. 1, 3, 16 and Dec. 6. In-Person training (in-person is required for managers) has sessions offered on Nov. 15 and Dec. 7.

A Zero Waste DC Starts with Your Input
|
The Department of Public Works (DPW) Office of Waste Diversion is developing the Zero Waste DC Plan in pursuit of Mayor Muriel Bowser’s Zero Waste goal of diverting 80% of the District of Columbia’s waste away from landfills and incineration.
In August, DPW hosted ten (10) virtual community engagement events to hear residents’ and businesses’ concerns, ideas, and visions for the Zero Waste future. Throughout September, they heard from community members during a 45-day public comment period on the Zero Waste DC Plan’s first draft framework.
This October, they're still listening!
DPW invites you to join virtually on October 28 to help dive deeper into the business priorities around Zero Waste. Similar to the first round of events, there will be one event for each of the District’s eight wards, one for the business community, and one for the government.

Extended Hours for 2022 FIFA World Cup
|
Eligible licensees may operate 24-hours and sell and serve alcohol between 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. during the 2022 FIFA World Cup taking place November 20 - December 18, 2022.
To participate, licensees must register and pay a non-refundable $100 fee by
4:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 17
. If approved, licensees will be issued a permit that must be posted next to their alcohol license inside the premises.
Note the following:

Eligible licensees include On-Premises Retailers, Manufacturers with an On-Site Sales and Consumption Permit, and Temporary License holders.

Extended hours start the evening of the first day of the series—Sunday, November 20—and end at 4:00 a.m. on the last day—Sunday, December 18.
-
Alcohol sales, service, and consumption are NOT permitted between 4:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.

Settlement Agreements
and
Board Orders
apply and may affect eligibility.

Registration in ABRA’s
Extended Holiday Hours Program
and previous World Cup application approvals do not extend to the 2022 World Cup.
