The beloved Adams Morgan Farmers Market is now operating at Unity Park in front of The LINE Hotel DC. Unity Park is the triangle park at the confluence of Columbia Rd., Champlain St., and Euclid St., NW. The market is celebrating its 49th year in the neighborhood. The market will be open from 8:30am - 1pm on Saturdays through Christmas.
Parking around the park will be restricted from 5am - 3pm on Saturdays for the market to allow for the vendors' trucks --
cars will be towed if they violate the parking restrictions

There has been a lot of movement over the past week in masking requirements.
In DC
, masks are required for all individuals indoors, regardless of vaccination status. ABRA is charged with enforcement and will issue a warning for a first offense, and the second will lead to a $1,000 fine. After three or more violations, the business’s liquor license will be reviewed by the DC liquor board. ABRA’s enforcement will primarily be focused on employees and guests as they enter or exit your establishment. Patrons that refuse to wear a mask can be asked to leave. In the event that the patron is inside of the establishment and refuses to leave, you should call MPD.
Vaccine Requirements in Local Government:
Mayor Bowser announced that all DC government employees are required to be vaccinated by September 19th. Workers who object to a vaccine, including those who seek an exemption for medical or religious reasons, must undergo weekly testing. Vaccine requirements for government workers have also been imposed in Virginia starting September 1.
On the local relief front in DC
, the Council held their final vote Tuesday on the Budget Support Act, which includes the grant program we have shared previously that provides rent relief for local businesses. Councilmember Silverman, with our support, introduced an amendment that expanded the program to include small businesses that opened during the pandemic. This is a huge victory and something that RAMW has advocated for tirelessly.

On the Hill
Tuesday, the Senate passed its infrastructure package. As previously noted, the legislation focuses on “traditional” infrastructure provisions (roads, bridges, broadband, etc.) versus broader measures, like COVID relief. As anticipated, it does
NOT
include aspects like replenishing the Restaurant Revitalization Fund (RRF). The bill proposes ending the COVID-related ERTC for businesses after September 30, 2021. Eligibility for the ongoing calendar quarter (July – September 2021) would not be affected, and ERTC is currently scheduled to expire at the end of 2021. The infrastructure bill will now go to the House.
Now, with the infrastructure agreement passing the Senate, Leader Schumer (D-NY) is immediately initiating the budget resolution process. The base text does not include RRF funding, however, we are staying engaged on the issue, and are advocating that either the already introduced RRF Replenishment Act or the ENTRÉE Act, which both address additional funding, be included in the reconciliation package Schumer is working on. Both RRF Replenishment Act or the ENTRÉE Act have bipartisan support, but need more Republican support to make meaningful traction. As a reminder, RRF funding was not originally included in the American Rescue Plan, but as a direct result of our industry's advocacy locally, with partner states through the Council of State Restaurant Associations, and nationally with partners at the National Restaurant Association and Independent Restaurant Coalition, it was added, so the exclusion from the latest reconciliation package is far from the end and we need to remain diligent and hopeful. Message from Mayor Bowser Regarding New Vaccination Requirement
|
By requirement of Mayor’s Order 2021-099 effective immediately, all District government contractors and grantees shall ensure, by no later than September 19, 2021, that each of their employees, agents, and subcontractors who provide goods or perform services in person in District of Columbia facilities or worksites, or who have in-person contact with other persons in order to complete their work under the contract or grant have been either: (i) fully vaccinated against COVID-19, or (ii) granted one of the exemptions identified in Section III of the Order by the contractor or grantee, are undergoing weekly COVID-19 testing and only reporting to the workplace when such test result is negative, and are wearing masks while working.

Capital Bikeshare Offers 10 Free Rides to Metro Users Who Switch to a Virtual SmarTrip Card
|
The District Department of Transportation and its six partner jurisdictions announced a new partnership between
Capital Bikeshare
, operated by Lyft, and the
Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority
(Metro) to incentivize riders to use clean transportation options. Metrobus and Metrorail riders who purchase a virtual SmarTrip card or transfer their physical, plastic SmarTrip card to mobile pay on Android, iPhone or Apple Watch
will receive ten 30-minute classic rides on Capital Bikeshare
, valid for 30 days. The promotion is also good for riders with an existing virtual SmarTrip card.
"We are really excited to partner with WMATA on this initiative to connect Capital Bikeshare customers to other forms of public transit seamlessly," said Acting DDOT Director Everett Lott. "With a Capital Bikeshare station at every WMATA station, we are so much closer to Mayor Bowser's goal of ensuring residents across all eight wards have access to some form of transportation within steps of their front doors."
As the Washington region continues to reopen, this initiative provides commuters returning to the office with multiple fast, convenient and affordable transportation options that will help reduce both traffic congestion and carbon emissions. The program will run from August 1 through December 31, 2021, to help give riders a new way to commute to work, visit cultural institutions and more as the region continues to reopen.

Earlier this year, DC Water released the Authority’s Lead Service Line Replacement Plan, an ambitious and robust plan to remove all lead service lines in the District of Columbia by 2030. The plan combines DC Water’s existing programs to remove lead service lines in the District into one coordinated effort that prioritizes lead replacements for vulnerable populations most impacted by lead exposure (e.g. children and pregnant women), and communities that are historically underserved and experience disproportionately poorer health outcomes compared with other parts of the city.

Metrorail provides substantially safer and more reliable service and dramatically fewer train delays three years after the National Capital Region provided dedicated capital funding to address a backlog of critically needed safety and reliability improvements, according to a new report released by Metro today. The report marks the halfway point of its six-year capital program, a coordinated effort to rehabilitate critical infrastructure and systems while establishing an annual program of preventive track maintenance.
