2) Rescheduled: Adams Morgan Porch Fest - October 24

We’re on our third year of Adams Morgan PorchFest — a celebration of the

deep musical talent that exists in the DC metro area. Last year 40+ musicians/

bands participated including members of the National Symphony Orchestra.

We transformed the front porches, patios and stoops of Adams Morgan

homes and businesses into “stages for a day” where local talent could be

heard by all for free.

It was a ton of fun, thanks to many of you, with dozens of local music acts

playing about at a dozen locations in Adams Morgan.  Neighbors gathered,

kids danced, and the streets came alive thanks to the generosity of musicians

sharing their art.

Unfortunately, the weather is not coooperating this weekend and we have

decided to postpone PorchFest to Saturday October 24th from 2pm-6pm

(an hour earlier because it gets dark earlier then). This will follow the Adams

Morgan Apple Festival and apple pie contest that morning at the Farmer's

Market.

From famous jazz legends like Charlie Byrd and Keter Betts to homegrown

soul acts like Father’s Children, Adams Morgan has a rich music tradition that

PorchFest hopes to continue.

We will need more musicians because of the postponement so please help us

spread the word about Adams Morgan PorchFest.  We’d like to grow this

bigger and better each year. We do still need volunteers to staff each of the

porches. Cultural Tourism DC helps us recruit volunteers. Please visit them

Friday October 16 at 12 noon with your name, phone number and type of

apple pie you will make. Local Adams Morgan businesses are welcome to

enter the competition.

Anyone who enters before the cut off can select their apples at the Licking

Creek Bend Farm stand at the Adams Morgan Farmer’s Market on Saturday,

October 17 FOR FREE.

Please bring a card with your ingredients so that we may accommodate dietary

restrictions. Please make a minimum of 3 pies.

You can make more but please let us know how many you plan to make.

We hope that folks will be able to enjoy tasting the pies as well.

DDOT's 16th Street Transit Priority Planning Study upcoming pop-up sessions

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will host four pop-up style public engagement events to gain feedback on the draft alternatives of the 16th Street NW Transit Priority Planning Study. These events will be located near high pedestrian and bus activity centers to reach the users of the system. The feedback will be used as part of the decision-making process for a final alternative and further corridor improvements.

DDOT and Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) conducted technical analyses to identify sources of bus delay. In addition, DDOT is continuing to collaborate with the community, businesses, Metrobus riders, commuters, local and regional agencies, and other stakeholders to develop short- and long-term solutions.

moveDC, the District’s new multimodal transportation plan, identified 16th Street NW as a transit priority corridor. This study focuses on 16th Street NW between Arkansas and H Streets NW.

New Parking Fines take effect October 1

Revised Parking Fine Structure Takes Effect with New Fiscal Year

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) , Department of Public Works (DC DPW) , and Department of Motor Vehicles (DC DMV) announced earlier this week that they will begin enforcing a new parking meter violation fine structure. The new fines, approved by the Council of the District of Columbia in July as part of the FY 2016 Budget Support Act, take effect, October 1, 2015.

The fines affect illegally parked vehicles in commercial and residential areas across the District of Columbia. The following parking meter infractions are subject to the new fines:

· * Illegally parked at a meter, meaning not parked within a legal space

· * Failure to deposit payment at a meter

· * Overtime parking at a meter longer than the posted time limit.

Fines for the above infractions that were previously $25 are now $30.

Vehicles illegally parked in neighborhoods where residential parking permits (RPP) are required will also face higher fines. RPP fines increase from $30 to $35.

DDOT to host Circulator Open House - October 6th

DDOT to Host DC Circulator Semiannual Open House on October 6


The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will host its DC Circulator Semiannual Open House on October 6, 2015, to present information on current operations and performance and to solicit feedback from riders.

DDOT will provide information on the DC Circulator 2014 Transit Development Plan (TDP) and updates on future expansion.

Attendees will have the opportunity to provide input on the following areas of the program:


1. NoMa neighborhood route planning study
2. The next generation of DC Circulator buses
3. New DC Circulator website, RIDE DC app and bus tracking technology
4. Annual customer feedback survey
5. Possible bus stop consolidation on the Union Station to Navy Yard and Union Station to Georgetown routes

ADAMS MORGAN FARMERS MARKET

Yes, we will be at the market but, come early  in case the weather forces us to leave earlier than 1:00pm.

We do still have a few WHITE NECTARINES, YELLOW ASIAN PEARS and YELLOW BARTLETT PEARS.  And a very few of the last of the FALL PLUMS.  But this is the end for White Nectarines.

Our APPLES are $1.49, lower than last year's price and about a dollar/lb lower than other markets.  The exception is HONEYCRISP which are still below other market prices.  Our cost, $2.49/lb.  New this week are JONAGOLDS, GOLD DELICIOUS, RUBY MACS and EMPIRES.  the APPLES we bring are picked on Mondays!

...and, we started picking our pesticide-free STAYMAN WINESAPS for this  Saturday.  These are best for pies.  Some folks love the sweet/sour taste.

We've stopped bringing down CORTLAND  and GALA APPLES because they were picked three weeks ago and are not as juicy and crisp as when fresh picked.  If you really want some, let us know.

This week at the market we'll also have:

FALL LETTUCE is in - BOSTON and ROMAINE!

PEAR variety called BOSC.  We will have a few GOLD BARTLETTS.

If you'd like a quantity of TOMATOES for sauce, canning, salsa, etc., now's the time to buy.  The PLUM (also called ITALIAN) HEIRLOOM varieties we grow make the best sauce and they are at the height of their season.  But come early to get these "seconds" for .99/lb specials.  We're getting cold, wet weather which has cut our tomato harvest time, so enjoy these next few weeks of tomatoes!  The nights on the farm have been going into the 40's, which slow down the tomatoes.

The unusually shaped with pretty colors, HEIRLOOM CHERRY TOMATOES have gotten rave reviews.  The chefs we wholesale to can't get enough of them. Try them.  These are on their way out for the season.
