2013 National Cherry Blossom Festival opportunities
Opportunities for the DC-area Business Community to participate in the 2013 National Cherry Blossom Festival
The 2013 National Cherry Blossom Festival is
less than six months away
, March 20 – April 14. It includes three spectacular weeks and four anchoring weekends of events featuring diverse and creative programming promoting traditional and contemporary arts and culture, natural beauty, and community spirit. The 2013 Festival commemorates the 101st anniversary of the gift of the cherry blossom trees and the enduring friendship between the United States and Japan.
Be part of the nation’s greatest springtime celebration and join the following Festival programs:
City in Bloom and Petal Pass
Both of these 2012 inaugural programs were immensely successful in activating the region with Festival spirit beyond the blossoms. The City in Bloom campaign, presented by Capital One Bank, took top honors for best new promotion at the International Festivals & Events Association’s Pinnacle awards, recognizing the very best in the industry. The campaign encourages all businesses and organizations to visually unite and promote the region throughout the duration of the 2013 Festival, showcasing spring in Washington, DC to the nation and world. Participants throughout hospitality, tourism, retail, and transportation industries showcase a visual display of Festival participation through signage, decals, banners, pink lighting and blossom projections on iconic buildings, to name a few.
Additionally, the Petal Pass serves as a key consumer element of City in Bloom by providing incentive for Festival attendees to explore the many treasures the region has to offer. The keepsake Petal Pass becomes a free guide for Pass holders to seek out participating business, retail, museums and more. Participants offer exclusive discounts and special incentives, driving additional foot traffic to their location.

Cherry Picks
Now in its eleventh year, the Cherry Picks restaurant program highlights the area’s vibrant restaurant scene. Restaurants participate by featuring an appetizer, entrée, dessert, cocktail or multi-course selection. Inventive and creative dishes are encouraged! Chefs are welcome to create blossom-inspired presentations, feature cherries or cherry infused flavors, showcase the Festival’s celebration of spring with seasonal ingredients, and more.
Participation benefits in the above programs include a wide range of strategic promotion via Festival marketing and public relation efforts.
