Small Business Saturday
"Hashtag for a Swag Bag" Promotion
The biggest shopping season of the year is rapidly approaching and we are going all out to drive business to our Adams Morgan shops and restaurants. We want customers right here in Adams Morgan and we want to reward them for coming here with a few prize bags of goodies from Adams Morgan merchants.
The contest will entail shoppers in Adams Morgan taking a selfie of themselves in front of the ShopSmall mural in the alley off of 18th Street that leads to Colonial Garage. They would then post the picture online with the hashtag: #ShopSmallAdMo
From all the participating shoppers, we will have a random drawing and pick a winner (or winners) to receive an Adams Morgan Swag Bag of small items and gift cards from a variety of neighborhood businesses. In the weeks leading up to Small Business Saturday, we will be promoting the contest heavily online and promoting all of the participating businesses along with it by spotlighting the item(s) donated by that business that will be part of the prize.
We need as many businesses as possible to participate for this to be a successful promotion
For more infomation and/or to participate, please contact AMPBID Operations Manager Brian Barrie via email or at 202-536-9515 .

Tower Crane replacement at The Line Hotel site
from Steve Harloe, Director Development, SYDELL GROUP
Good afternoon all

Our contractor has reported to us that their concrete subcontractor will be replacing the current tower crane on site with a nearly identical crane this weekend.  They have transmitted to us their DDOT Public Space Occupancy Permit and DCRA after-hours permit for the weekend operations.

The DDOT permit includes their approved traffic control plan that depicts the potions of Euclid Street and Champlain Street that will be closed to traffic.  These closures are necessary to ensure the safety of the neighbors and construction workers.

This is also posted on our website at www.adamsmorganhistorichotel.com.

Please feel free to contact me if there are any questions or concerns and thanks.

Kind Regards,

Steve

Deadline Extended: Cat muralist wanted to decorate an Adams Morgan building

Alley Cat Allies 26th Anniversary Commemorative Mural Project
Request for Proposals Number: 2016-1990MP ( click here to download the full RFP )
New Deadline for Submission: Saturday, November 11, 2016, midnight EST
Contact: catmural@alleycat.org

The project budget of $20,000 is all-inclusive and must account for all expenses associated with the complete design and fabrication of the proposed mural. This includes, but is not limited to, design process and meetings, preparing the site wall, insurance during the creation of the mural, permitting for any required scaffolding, all equipment and supplies needed, and protective anti-graffiti coating for the mural.

Background from the Alley Cat Allies RFP:

Out of a chance encounter in the summer of 1990, a cat revolution was born. Alley Cat Allies’ founder Becky Robinson discovered a colony of cats living in an alley in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington, D.C. At that time, those fighting to protect community cats had to endure widespread ignorance and an entrenched shelter system where the majority of cats were killed (AKA euthanized).

Robinson was called to speak for those with no voice. Her dedication launched the organization that inspired the nation’s cat advocacy movement from the ground up. The colony of 54 cats who resided in this alley were adored by the local residents. After veterinary care, including neutering, vaccinations, and an eartip (to identify they were in a managed colony), they lived long lives with no new litters of kittens. They are now deceased. This practice is known as Trap-Neuter-Return. TNR is the proven, effective population control approach for community cats.

In the 26 years since, Alley Cat Allies continues to be the fearless leader in the movement to save all cats—pet, stray, feral, and every cat in between. Alley Cat Allies brought this issue into the American mainstream, and inspired a worldwide call for humane policies.

Every day, Alley Cat Allies works to radically reform the shelter system to end the killing of all cats, and champions TNR as the humane and effective approach to community cats. Through hands-on, grassroots advocacy, we change minds and transform communities across the nation to protect cats and the people who care for them. We have a dedicated staff of 40. Our supporters are more than half a million strong and growing.

We seek to commemorate Alley Cat Allies with a mural in the alley where the colony of cats lived who inspired our 26 plus years of saving lives.

Do you Have Pre-tax Commuter Benefits?

In case you didn't know, the DC Commuters Benefits Law requires employers with 20 or more employees in the District to offer pre-tax or subsidized commuter benefits for use on Metrorail, Metrobuses, vanpools and other forms of transit.

3 Reasons Why the Mandatory Commuter Benefits Law Rocks!

  1. Employees can save up to $22 every two weeks or $1,182 per year in commuter costs.
  2. Pre-tax deductions cut state, federal and FICA taxes.
  3. Reduce commute stress and participate in healthy and active transportation options.

Contact goDCgo to kick-start your Commuter Benefits program and learn more about all of our complimentary services.

Feedback sought for DC Economic Strategy

From the Office of the Deputy Mayor:

If you were not able to participate [in the Local Economy discussion last week], we welcome you to share your thoughts via www.DCeconomicstrategy.com. The What Do You Think? section includes questions covering a range of topics, as well as a general feedback link. Like the in-person discussions, the input we receive through this channel will help shape the economic strategy.

Over the next couple of weeks, additional discussions will take place where you can share input. We welcome you to participate if these are of interest. Topics are described in the Discussions section of the website. In addition, DSLBD is starting two ongoing discussion groups – one on regulation and another on cooperatives – to further explore challenges, solutions, and opportunities in these areas. Look out for invitations to these open discussions from Kate Mereand (DSLBD) in the coming weeks, or reach out to Kate directly for more information at katherine.mereand-sinha@dc.gov.

Finally, I encourage you to share www.DCeconomicstrategy.com with your networks, and you can engage on social media by using the hashtag #DCEconStrategy. If you come across a resource or promising approach for supporting a dynamic local economy, tag it! These channels will be active as we work to complete the strategy by the end of the year.

Again, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on the direction of DC’s economy.

Sincerely,
Sharon Carney

Office of Planning Comprehensive Plan upcoming meeting

The DC Office of Planning (OP) is amending the District’s Comprehensive Plan, a 20-year framework that guides future growth and development in the city and shapes the places we live, work, shop, and play. OP launched the second amendment cycle to the Comprehensive Plan this year to ensure that the Plan remains responsive to the needs of the community.

Your ideas are essential to a successful amendment process. There is one meeting left on November 14 (details below). Since the Comprehensive Plan is a 20-year plan, the Plan uses Area Elements instead of Wards since Ward boundaries can change every ten years. Please RSVP and check out the map for the meeting below.

  • November 14 (6 pm-8:30 pm) – Luke C. Moore High School, 1001 Monroe Street NE (Nearest Metro: Brookland)

Share your ideas in an online survey .

For more details about the Comprehensive Plan, Area Elements and the Amendment Process, please visit http://plandc.dc.gov/ and sign up for alerts.

Contact the DC Office of Planning at PlanDC@dc.gov or 202-442-7600 and follow them on Twitter at @OPinDC #PlanDC #DCCompPlan.
