DDOT Invites Public Comment on Revised Rules for Vision Zero
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) invites the public to comment on the revised rulemaking for Vision Zero. Public comments will be accepted through Monday, March 6, 2017.
Vision Zero is the Bowser Administration's plan to eliminate all traffic fatalities and serious injuries by the year 2024. The revised rulemaking is based on input the agency received in written comments, and hearing testimony last fall.
“The District is committed to Vision Zero and we understand that public input is essential for us to realize our goal of zero traffic fatalities and zero serious injuries,” said DDOT Director Leif Dormsjo. “We have revised the rules to reflect the input we heard from the public and look forward to enhancing our efforts to address behaviors such as excessive speeding that we know cost lives."
The revised Vision Zero proposal strikes a balance between strengthening deterrents of dangerous behavior, and establishing a new framework for penalties that are both proportional to existing fine regimes, and reflective of the fatal consequences of violations.
DDOT welcomes feedback on these newly proposed rules. Any interested person may send comments electronically to publicspace.policy@dc.gov.
Interested parties can also write Alice Kelly, Manager, Policy and Legislative Affairs Division, Office of the Director, District Department of Transportation, 55 M Street, SE, Suite 400, Washington, DC 20003.
Copies of the proposed rules are available by writing to the above address, and electronically in the DC Register (
http://dcregs.dc.gov/Gateway/NoticeHome.aspx?noticeid=6369134
).
Never Run Out of Fare Again with Auto Reload
The days of counting change and waiting in line at fare machines are over. Did you know
you can auto reload
your SmarTrip® card when the balance drops below a certain amount? There's only a few short steps to provide peace of mind when it comes to boarding most DC area transit:
-
Register your SmarTrip®
(requires a credit card and authorization).
-
Accept minimum charge of $20 to be pre-loaded to your SmarTrip® card.
-
Select a recharge amount (minimum of $20).
-
Wait for it. Each time your card value falls under $10, it’s automatically reloaded with your recharge amount.
-
Receive an email each time your account is charged. Transaction history is also available via your SmarTrip® account summary.
Auto Reload is perfect for infrequent Metro riders, who do not currently receive
transit benefits from their employer
. Those who frequent the Metro system are better suited for a
SelectPass
, which provides unlimited monthly rides for a better value.
Consider auto reloading a "guest" SmarTrip® card for visitors! They'll feel more confident using public transportation during their stay when the ticket process is streamlined.
