Meeting with DSLBD and WACIF - November 15th at 4 PM to announce no-interest loan program for businesses in streetscape construction zones

The DC Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD) and the Washington Area Community Investment Fund (WACIF) will be announcing the Streetscape Loan Fund details on Tuesday November 15th at 4 PM at the District Lounge, 2473 18th Street, NW on the second floor.

WACIF, the group chosen to administer the loan program, will have applications available for these no-interest, 5 year repayment loans for small businesses in affected streetscape construction zones. They will also have information about loan clinics , where applicants can schedule appointments to meet with either DSLBD and/or WACIF for help with their applications.

There will also be additional information available on Tuesday about Enterprise Zones and other DC Government programs designed to help small and local businesses.

Hearing on Wednesday November 16th on the "Streetscape Corridor Taxation Relief Act of 2011"

Councilmember Jack Evans, Chairman of the Committee on Finance and Revenue, announced a public hearing to be held on Wednesday, November 16th at 10:00 a.m., in Room 412 of the John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20004 to hear from the public on a number of proposed legislative actions. The one of most interest to the Adams Morgan business community is:

which would amend Title 47 of the District of Columbia Official Code to allow business and commercial property owners, who were substantially impacted by streetscape construction, to have penalties and interest for delayed real property tax payments waived, provided that they can demonstrate the streetscape project resulted in a substantial loss of revenue, and that their property was not classified as Class 4 by the Office of Tax and Revenue.

One item missing in the proposed legislation is definition to the length of time real property tax payments would be delayed. If anyone testifies or submits testimony for the record, you might want to address that issue.

The Committee invites the public to testify at the public hearing. Those who wish to testify should register online or contact Sarina Loy, Committee Assistant at (202) 724-8058 or sloy@dccouncil.us , and provide your name, organizational affiliation (if any), and title with the organization. Witnesses should bring 15 copies of their written testimony to the hearing. The Committee allows individuals 3 minutes to provide oral testimony in order to permit each witness an opportunity to be heard. In addition, they will include a link to goDCgo’s interactive map to help your customers and employees get where they need to go. Users simply enter their point of origin and destination to see all of the sustainable options at their disposal, including Metrobus and Metrorail, DC Circulator, bicycle lanes and trails, Capital Bikeshare stations and the location of car sharing vehicles.

DC Entrepreneurship Week - November 14- 18, 2011

D.C. Entrepreneurship Week , to be held during Global Entrepreneurship Week, was created out of a desire to bolster the thriving business community in the Washington DC area; a region that boasts the 5th highest concentration of entrepreneurs in the country (Grasshopper Group, July 2010).
