Inauguration Update

Please view the information below regarding preparations for the upcoming Inauguration. The United States Secret Service (USSS) and its law enforcement partners have begun to move quickly to secure key locations. As of now, we are not aware of any street closures in the vicinity of Adams Morgan, but we will post updates to social media should that change. Below are some key takeaways of the situation as of right now, but we will post updates as conditions warrant:

TRANSPORTATION IMPACTS

Given the safety concerns and transportation closures, office workers are encouraged to telecommute next week. Items in offices should be picked up as soon as possible, ideally before 6:00 p.m. today, Friday, January 15th.

Metro announces Inauguration service plans, station closures

Metro will close 13 stations inside the security perimeter, with 11 stations closing on Friday and two additional stations on Saturday and continuing through the end of service on Thursday. During this time trains will pass through the closed stations without stopping. Click here to view the stations that will be closed Friday, January 15th, through Thursday, January 21st. For real-time information on service interruptions follow @Metrorailinfo or @Metrobusinfo on Twitter.

Capital Bikeshare

Capital Bikeshare stations around the National Mall, Capitol Hill, and Union Station will be unavailable until further notice. Please check the map for the most up-to-date service information.

STREET & BRIDGE CLOSURES

The Department of Homeland Security designated the Presidential Inauguration as a recurring National Special Security Event (NSSE). Please click here to view the USSS official list of 2021 Inaugural Street Closures .

Individuals entering the perimeter may be subject to screening and asked what their essential purpose within the inauguration perimeter is. If you need to be within the inauguration perimeter, be prepared to provide proof of your reason. This is similar to previous inaugurations — except the inauguration perimeter will be established and operational for several days prior to the event.

These road closures are subject to change on the surrounding streets around the White House, the National Mall and the U.S. Capitol - to include parts of Downtown.

The National Mall will be closed to the public, but there are two groups of up to 100 people that have been approved to hold their First Amendment demonstrations at the U.S. Navy Memorial and John Marshall Park in Judiciary Square. The groups will meet U.S. Park Police on Pennsylvania Avenue, be taken through magnetometers and escorted to their dedicated areas.

REPORT SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITIES

Law enforcement agencies are requesting businesses and residents report any suspicious activities to the MPD. MPD is requesting property owners preserve video and camera footage to assist in current and future investigations.

Report Suspicious Activity, Behavior, Items and Vehicles to 911. If the Activity has since past, report to iwatchdc.org .
