|
The gift boxes are back this year in the plaza at the corner of Columbia Road and Adams Mill Road
, placed between the newly planted trees! We've also adorned our streetlights with ornaments and garland to get everyone in the holiday spirit!
We've had the carolers out several days this year, but you can still catch their last appearance this Saturday (Dec. 18) from 12-1:30pm.

Safer Ways to Celebrate Holidays
|
According to the CDC, the best way to stay safe this holiday season is to get vaccinated, especially to protect those not yet eligible for vaccination such as young children.

Other best practices from the CDC include:

Even those who are fully vaccinated should wear a mask in public indoor settings in communities with substantial to high transmission.

Outdoors is safer than indoors.

Avoid crowded, poorly ventilated spaces.

If you are sick or have symptoms, don’t host or attend a gathering.
-
Get tested if you have symptoms of COVID-19 or have a close contact with someone who has COVID-19.

If you are considering traveling for a holiday or event, visit the
CDC’s Travel page
to help you decide what is best for you and your family. CDC still recommends delaying travel until you are
fully vaccinated
. Please note that if you are traveling internationally, you must show proof of vaccination and a negative COVID-19 test result taken no more than one day before travel before boarding a flight back to the United States, with limited exceptions.

The Adams Morgan Partnership BID (AMPBID) holds elections every year at our annual meeting in March. The board consists of 15 seats, nine of which are reserved for commercial property owners and six for business owners. Board members are elected to serve three-year terms (unless they are replacing a board member who resigned before the end of their term).

The Great Streets Retail Small Business Grant is the hallmark grant opportunity for the Great Streets program. The grant has helped hundreds of small businesses renovate their storefront to attract new customers and drive profitability.
The purpose of the grant is to support existing small businesses, attract new businesses, and transform designated commercial corridors into thriving and inviting neighborhood centers.

The Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD) is excited to announce they we will be accepting applications for the first round of Food Waste Innovation Grants.
These grants will provide support for restaurants, food manufacturers, shared commercial kitchens, and commercial corridors like Main Streets and Business Improvement Districts, to minimize food waste.
Reducing food waste in the District’s food businesses can cut food and waste costs, reduce rodents, and reduce carbon emissions.
Grant applications will close on January 31, 2022
, at 2 pm Eastern Standard Time.

On the federal relief front, there are a few important deadlines on December 31, 2021.
EIDL
: The deadline to apply for COVID-19 Economic Injury Disaster Loan funds is Dec. 31, 2021. Restaurants can apply for up to $2M with greater flexibility on how the funds can be used. The Small Business Administration recently shared updated guidance with more on program deadlines and application details.

RRF
: All recipients are required to report how much of their award has been used against each eligible use category by December 31, 2021. If the recipient fully expends their funds prior to December 31, 2021, they will be asked to certify in the application portal that proceeds have been used on eligible expenses. All recipients that do not fully expend award funds prior to December 31, 2021 will be required to complete annual reporting submissions until they fully expend the award funding or the period of performance expires. All RRF recipients have until March 11, 2023 to use award funds.

80/20 Rule
: The Texas Restaurant Association and the legal arm of the National Restaurant Association have asked a federal court to halt the Department of Labor's return to the 80/20 Rule. The rule was originally slated to go into effect on 12/28/21 after the U.S. Department of Labor revised its Fair Labor Standards Act tip regulations in late October. The NRA’s challenge to the change asked for a preliminary injunction and they are hoping for a ruling soon. Under the 80/20 guideline, a tipped employee is entitled to a full, direct minimum wage—unchanged by a tip credit—for any work that doesn't generate tips and exceeds 20% of the worker’s job time. We will keep you posted as this develops.
Federal vaccine mandate for employers of 100+.
There isn’t much to report on this but want to make sure you are up to date. As you know, a temporary restraining order was issued that prevents this mandate from going into effect. The Biden administration filed a motion to lift the stay, but it is unlikely there will be a ruling on this until the new year. Also on this mandate, a Congressional Review Act bill passed the Senate and it attempts to overturn this OSHA Emergency Temporary Standard. The legislation now heads to the House, but it is unlikely to be successful. We will keep you posted as this all develops.

2022 ABC Board Meeting, Extended Holiday Hours Schedules
|
Twelve holidays in 2022, including DC Emancipation Day and Juneteenth, are available for extended hours. Registered licensees can serve alcohol until 4:00 a.m. and operate 24-hours a day on select dates. Registration is free and participation is optional. Settlement Agreements, Mayor’s Orders, and Board Orders apply.

Alert: New Requirements for District Food-Serving Entities
|
Beginning January 1, 2022, food-serving entities, such as restaurants, schools, hospitals, religious institutions, and nonprofits,
shall not distribute disposable straws, utensils, napkins, and other accessory food ware unless these items are specifically requested by the customer or provided at a self-serve station
. These new requirements are meant to reduce plastic waste, which is a leading cause of pollution in the District’s rivers and streams. Please

For the first six months of 2022, DOEE inspectors will prioritize education and compliance assistance issuing Notices of Noncompliance to entities found to be out of compliance.
Beginning July 1, 2022, DOEE will begin issuing Notices of Violation (warning letters) and then Notices of Infraction (fines) to noncompliant entities.

Schedule adjustments to 42 and 43 buses
|
Metro is making bus service changes to improve reliability starting Sunday, December 26, 2021. Most changes are minor schedule adjustments of less than eight minutes to improve the customer experience. Please visit our December 2021 Metrobus service changes page for a complete list of route changes.
In Adams Morgan, weekday peak period service for the 42 and 43 Metrobus routes will be every 9 minutes instead of every 6 minutes.
