The workshop will be led by:
Heather Arnold
Director of Research & Analysis, Streetsense

Ms. Arnold specializes in retail market analysis, incentive planning, and merchandising mix strategies for downtown environments. Most recently, Heather led a multi-disciplinary Streetsense team on the DC Vibrant Retail Streets project for the Office of Planning. This April, she will lead Streetsense’s Vibrant Streets team as they host their first Learning Lab for participants across the country in this interactive conference.  In her capacity as a retail market analyst, she has studied over 20 neighborhoods throughout Washington, DC, as well as downtowns in Philadelphia, PA; Durham, NC; Baltimore, MD; Seattle, WA; and St. Louis, MO.

Heather received her Master’s Degree in City and Regional Planning from Cornell University and her Bachelor’s of Architectural History from the University of Virginia.

She lives in Rockville with her husband and two children -- regretful that she moved to the suburbs, but grateful that her children can walk to school.

Getting to the Inauguration

METRO

Metro will be open 4 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, to 2 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22. The Archives, Mt. Vernon Square and Smithsonian stations will be closed. Some stations will be entry- or exit-only.

Metrobus will offer morning weekday rush-hour service, followed by earlier-than-usual afternoon rush-hour service. Many routes will operate on detours. Learn about specific buses on Metro's website .

Preparing for a Disaster: What Your Business Needs to Know!

The Applied Science Foundation for Homeland Security, Washington, D.C. Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency, InfraGard National Capital Region Members Alliance, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, and The George Washington University would like to invite you to a special program focusing on helping small and mid-sized businesses prepare for a disaster.

The event will be held on February 13, 2013 between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. at the Grosvenor Auditorium at the National Geographic Museum, 1145 17th St NW, Washington, DC 20036.

Businesses in the Northeast lost an estimated $25 - $50 billion in revenue due to Superstorm Sandy. While this storm was remarkable in many ways, the fact is most of those companies – 90% of which were small and mid-sized – were not prepared for any disaster at any level.

We know from prior catastrophic events that the resiliency of a community is directly linked to how quickly goods and services begin to flow to the impacted area. While government does an outstanding job at preparedness and disaster response, it is the business community that is ultimately responsible for recovery. It is therefore critical that every business has an emergency operations/business continuity plan.

During this event you will learn from some of the best in the country on how to, among other things, (1) prepare your business for a disaster, (2) mitigate supply chain issues, (3) manage your personnel, and (4) work with the Federal, state and local government during a crisis.

GWHCC Annual Business Expo - April 2, 2013

Can you believe that the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce's (GWHCC) 4th Annual Business Expo is just around the corner?

GWHCC would like to invite Adams Morgan businesses to join them again at the Business Expo on April 2, 2013. www.gwhcc.org

The Adams Morgan Partnership BID sponsored two booths that were shared by 5 businesses at last year's EXPO (the 6th business was not able to go at the last minute) and showcased their businesses and built connections with participating government agencies, corporations, embassies, non-profits, small businesses, and individuals in the local Hispanic business community. This year GWHCC is anticipating over 1,300 attendees and 110 exhibitors.

Spaces are filling up fast so we would like to know by January 31st if you would like to participate again this year. We will pay for shared booths for 3 businesses per booth for up to 12 businesses or 4 booths.
