The staff of the newly opened Carriage House Restaurant and Lounge cordially invites you to come enjoy our affordably-priced American eats, a wide selection of beers on tap, and our delicious specialty cocktails!

Located at 2333 18th Street NW in the heart of Adams Morgan, Carriage House boasts 3 newly renovated bars and a wide selection of salads, pizzas, burgers, and more. Vegetarians will also find plenty of options, including our popular house-made veggie burger. All sauces and dressings are also made in-house, as Carriage House is committed to providing freshly prepared food with high quality ingredients.

The establishment is especially proud of our restored wood brick oven, used to fire our ribeye steak and all of our pizzas. Try the classic Rockefeller, a bacon, sausage and skirt-steak topped pizza, or the more unique Potomac, a pesto-based pizza topped with shrimp, roasted pepper and arugula- or build your own! Other offerings, combining great flavors from around the nation, include a classic beef burger, Maryland crab cakes, glazed salmon with mushroom risotto, and a sumptuous spinach pie.

True to its name, the former carriage house turned restaurant retains its old-fashioned charm among its fresh amenities and modern look. Black and white photos of 19th century Adams Morgan highlight the area's storied history, while the new flat screen TVs and marble bars provide modern-day comfort. Come relax among neighbors in the pleasant ambiance as you sample classic cocktails with modern twists like our Black Martini and the Bacon Wash Manhattan.

On Friday and Saturday nights, be sure to head upstairs to the Carriage House Saloon. Here you can enjoy drinks and music at our large communal tables, perfect for socializing. Reminder: Monthly rat abatement walk throughs with DOH continue on May 3rd

Beginning Friday April 5th and continuing on the first Friday of every month through November, we will meet with DOH Rat Abatement Specialist, Gerard Brown and his team, at 11:00 am in the SunTrust Bank Plaza at 18th and Columbia Road, NW. Tomorrow we will be joined by DPW SWEEP Inspectors along with a food safety inspector.

Each month we will focus on a different alley/street/problem area.

Bike to Work Day May 17, 2013!

The Adams Morgan pit stop will be in Unity Park (triangle park at Euclid/Champlain and Columbia Road, NW) again from 7:30 to 9:30 am. Please join us! There will be FREE coffee and pastries from Tryst and water and fruit from Safeway - among others.

Registration for the metropolitan Washington region’s annual Bike to Work Day 2013 on Friday, May 17 is now open at www.biketoworkmetrodc.org .  This year’s Bike to Work Day will be bigger than ever with more than a dozen new pit stops added, for a total of 72 in the region -- District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia – offering cyclists refreshments, entertainment and giveaways as part of the celebration.

Bike to Work Day, organized by Commuter Connections and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA), prompts thousands of area commuters to bicycle to work to highlight and promote this clean commute option.

“Bike to Work Day is a great way to promote bicycling as an alternative to driving alone to work.  Ten percent of BTWD participants reported that they started cycling to work after participating in their first BTWD event,” said Nicholas Ramfos, Director of Commuter Connections. “And it encourages those who already bike, to do it more often. More than 20 percent of BTWD participants say cycling is now a regular part of their commutes.”

Last year there were 12,700 registrants, and coordinators expect registration will again break records as novice and experienced cyclists join together to celebrate bicycling as a fun, healthy and wallet-friendly commute alternative. The first 12,000 registrants will receive free Bike to Work Day t-shirts at the pit stop of their choice and become eligible to win great prizes such as Jamis bicycles. Registration and event details including pit stop locations, sponsor information and how to join a convoy are at www.biketoworkmetrodc.org .

Commuter Connections and WABA encourage new and experienced bicycling commuters to be prepared and offer the following resources:

ILSR - Celebrated their 39th Anniversary on May 1

On 1 May 2013, the Institute for Local Self-Reliance (ILSR) celebrated its 39th anniversary of serving neighborhoods, small towns, cities and small businesses in their efforts toward sustainable and equitable development.

ILSR was started in l974 as a community organizations serving Adams Morgan and Mt Pleasant with projects focused on decentralized energy, urban agriculture and recycling and composting. By l980 ILSR had become a national organization. Today ILSR continues to serve this constituency with programs in Waste to Wealth, Energy, Broadband, Biomaterials, banking, Independent Business and the Public good.

Horizons Greater Washington www.horizonsgreaterwashington.org offers an annual tuition-free six-week summer academic enrichment program and year-round Saturday program to 210 low-income elementary public school students from Bancroft & HD Cooke Elementary Schools in Mt. Pleasant and Adams Morgan.

Through a unique partnership between public elementary schools and nearby private schools, Horizons offers Saturday and summer enrichment programs that build problem solving skills, self-esteem, and a love of learning. In small classes (one teacher for five students) on the private school campuses, children delve into math, reading, science, arts, and...swimming.

Everyone receives a nutritious breakfast, lunch, and snack. Reading specialists spend four hours a day with those who are farthest behind, focusing on spelling, writing, and vocabulary. But just as important as academics are teamwork and respect – and the realization that learning is both hard work and really fun. Those values stick: attendance rates are over 90%, and 95% of students return.

Horizons hires professional lead teachers, maintains a low 5:1 student/teacher ratio, and ensures a vibrant educational setting by using project-based teaching methods that excite and engage students in core subject areas from 8:30AM – 3:30PM each day for six consecutive weeks throughout the summer.
