P okemon Go can be good for small businesses
If you've turned on your TV or opened Facebook this week, you've surely heard about phenomenon of the Pokemon Go game that has swept the world including the DC area over the past week. The good news is that it's not just for kids, and it can be exploited to bring customers into your business. Ventnor Sports Cafe jumped into the fray and got some coverage from WJLA yesterday , and with the momentum still building, there's still time to get in on the ground floor. Inc Magazine has a good guide to getting started: http://www.inc.com/walter-chen/pok-mon-go-is-driving-insane-amounts-of-sales-at-small-local-businesses-here-s-h.html
A dams Morgan Day Update
Update from the Adams Morgan Day organizers:

Hi Neighbor!

I'm hoping you are up for being involved with Adams Morgan Day this year, scheduled for Sunday, September 11th, 2016!  Right now, we are looking for verbal/email commitments from a few businesses just to get their participation listed on the website.  If you do not have all the details figured out, no worries, you have until August 15th to get it to us, but for now, we are just looking for commitments.

Please note, that this year, we are asking businesses to contribute a small participation fee towards the event to help us make it a success.  Last year, we were able to slide on some things and apologize to the powers that be where we missed but this year, we are trying to do right by the community.

To participate, we have different participation/sponsorship levels, starting as low as $50 per business (must be an Adams Morgan business).  In exchange for this fee, participants will have their event/participation listed on the website.  Businesses interested in contributing more (and depending on the level of the participation) may have the opportunity to be listed as a participating sponsor on fliers and other media outreach.

In addition to this, Roofers Union is dedicated to getting the ball rolling, so we are offering a match contribution of up to $1000 to the highest contributing local Adams Morgan Business.  If no match-level contributions come in, Roofers Union will still donate $500.

Participating AdMo Restaurant/Business Levels

  • $50-200: Participating Supporter - Listing and link on website
  • $250: Participating Advocate - Listing with logo and link on website AND print materials
  • $500: Participating Lead Sponsor - Name/logo on all event publications and print materials; listing with logo and link on Website; logo on homepage of website; social media promotion
  • $1000: Participating Partner - Name/logo on all event publications, print materials, and banner; listing with logo and link on Website; large logo on homepage of website; social media promotion
  • *$500-1000: Be the highest contributor and get your donation matched by Roofers Union!

Like last year's Adams Morgan Day, this is extremely grassroots, so every little bit helps much more than you might think.  Let's make this year the best Adams Morgan Day yet!

Many thanks,

Dave Delaplaine

DDOT Releases Upgraded Version of the rideDC Trip Planner

Redesigned mobile app helps users navigate the District during SafeTrac k

(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has released an updated version of its rideDC Trip Planner, a mobile application designed to help residents and visitors navigate around the District. The newly updated app will be especially helpful as riders explore different transportation options during WMATA’s SafeTrack repair program.

The rideDC Trip Planner has been redesigned to be more user friendly. It features real-time rail and bus arrivals, as well as current bus locations. The application is map centric and contains a trip planner feature that allows users to chart a course between two destinations using a variety of transit options, including Metrorail, Metrobus and Capital Bikeshare. Transit options are also available in table format that features route destination information and arrival times for all modes except Capital Bikeshare.
“After last year's release of the rideDC Trip Planner we received great feedback and interest from our users, and relied on that input to make the app better," said DDOT Director Leif Dormsjo. “Reliability and integrity of data are key goals for us as we strive to provide real-time arrival information for the DC Circulator and for the first time, the DC Streetcar."
The rideDC Trip Planner is a public service, not for-profit application, and does not sell users' personal data, read users' contacts, or confidential information.
The new version of the rideDC Trip planner is currently available for free for iOS and Android smartphones.
