R eminder: AMPBID Board meeting September 13th
The next Adams Morgan Partnership BID (AMPBID) Board of Directors' meeting will be Tuesday, September 13th at 5 PM at the Festival Center at 1640 Columbia Road, NW.  Hope you can join us!

There will be a presentation on Paid Family and Medical Leave by Joanna Blotner from Jews United for Justice (JUFJ). Information on the proposed legislation from JUFJ:
The DC Council is considering legislation that would establish a citywide paid family and medical leave insurance program to provide District workers (including business owners) with extended paid leave to care for a personal medical issue, welcome a new child, or care for an ill family member. Currently, few businesses are able to provide extended paid leave to employees facing major life events and the District's paid leave insurance program would provide an affordable mechanism by which to do this. Paid family and medical leave is proven to improve employee retention, loyalty and productivity while also improving health and economic outcomes for families.
A dams Morgan Partnership BID Annual Meeting: October 18, 2016
Note: Due to Yom Kippur, the AMPBID annual meeting that had been scheduled for October 11 has been rescheduled for Tuesday, October 18, 2016 .

The Annual Meeting of the AMPBID will be Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at 5pm, at the Festival Center at 1640 Columbia Road, NW.

AMPBID Annual Meeting Election Process

At the October 18th Annual Meeting, BID members will have the opportunity to vote for candidates for 5 board slots: three property owners and two business owners.

The following board members have agreed to run for another term on the board:

Arianne Bennett

AMPBID Annual Meeting Election Process

Each person eligible for election as a member of the Board may be nominated by: 1) the nominating committee, or 2) by a member petition submitted to the Chair of the Nominating Committee (Jonathan Cho) at least 30 days prior to the date of the meeting (so additional nominations must be received by September 18th); provided that only business owners can nominate business owners and property owners can only nominate property owners and a petition shall require the signature of no less than ten (10) members to nominate a member of the Board. Each nominee either shall be present at the annual meeting or shall consent to such nomination by a written document.

Voting

Per the by-laws, any properties for which BID taxes are over 60 days delinquent, may not vote nor may they nominate members to the board.

For each class of member, the ballot will list all the candidate names, and members will vote for the number of open slots in that category. For example, there are two business owner slots. All members will have the opportunity to vote for two candidates from the list of all business owner candidates.

Proxies

Proxy votes are allowed.

Pursuant to the BID bylaws, those interested in voting in the board elections by proxy can either contact the BID to request a proxy form, or can develop their own form, as long as it includes: the date of the meeting at which it is applicable (October 18) full names, addresses and the dated signatures of both the individual issuing the proxy and the witness(es) to the signature. The proxy voter can be anyone to whom the property or business owner designates to vote for them and DOES NOT have to be a member of the Adams Morgan Partnership BID. All proxy forms must meet all these criteria to be accepted.

The BID will have a proxy form available by fax, mail and by email.

A dams Morgan Day this Sunday!
38th ANNUAL ADAMS MORGAN DAY — the longest continuously running neighborhood festival in the nation’s capital — once again invites residents, neighbors and friends to experience our renowned eclectic culture, businesses and lively artistic beat this Sunday, September 11, from noon to 6 p.m., centered at 18th Street NW and Columbia Road NW, and at participating Adams Morgan businesses.
Bands play all day at SunTrust Plaza; artists will vend on the corner plazas and in front of businesses; and games take place in Unity Park. A pre-arranged basketball tournament will be held simultaneously at Kalorama Park. 18th Street will remain open and visitors will enjoy specials at the many international and local sourced participating restaurants of Adams Morgan.   • Artists will have work for sale around the neighborhood and in our Artists Alley behind SunTrust
  • Games and kids crafts will be hosted in Unity Park
  • The event’s design partner Josue Martinez, a local multimedia artist and owner of Corinto Gallery, will organize live painting by area artists
  • BicycleSPACE will display bikes and accessories for the discerning cyclist and beginner alike
  • The Make Fix Anything Project will help you fix anything from bicycles to broken hearts
  • Life Asset, a non-profit, will host a small indoor market featuring art, goods and services from their micro-entrepreneur loan recipients
  • Shenanigan’s Irish Pub will donate 25% of its sales to the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund
  • Roofers Union will feature live music, art and specials
  • El Tamarindo will provide music and specials
  • Bedrock Billiards will offer free pool until 6:00 p.m. (21+) and board games in Unity Park
  • Mellow Mushroom will feature music on the roof top, face painting, balloon twisting, artists on the patio and specials
  • The Blaguard, Meze, Smoke and Barrel, Pop’s Sea Bar and Tryst will have festival-day specials
P orchfest and Apple Festival headline AMPBID's Fall Events
Following up on a successful Spring event season, we're looking forward to having great stuff going on in Adams Morgan this Fall. In addition to what's listed below, we'll be announcing some other exciting events in the weeks to come.

Adams Morgan PorchFest
PorchFest returns to Adams Morgan on October 1, and we're looking forward to it being the biggest and best edition yet. Last year we had 12 porches and over 30 bands playing all over the neighborhood, both at private residences as well as in front of businesses. Bands will be playing on October 1 at 2pm, 3:30pm, and 5pm. Maps will be available online and we'll be distributing paper copies in front of BB&T at the corner of Columbia Rd. and 18th St., NW. Adams Morgan Apple Festival, featuring the 2nd Annual Apple Pie Contest

Working with our friends from the Adams Morgan Farmer's Market, Licking Creek Bend Farms, we're bringing back the Adams Morgan Apple Festival for a second year. Last year's edition was a great success and good times were had by all. In addition to Licking Creek Bend Farm's Annual Heirloom Apple Tasting, we'll once again have an apple pie baking contest with local celebrities on hand to judge.

Inclusionary Zoning: Upcoming Changes and What You Need to Know

The D.C. Zoning Commission has taken proposed action to amend the Inclusionary Zoning (IZ) Regulations, including changes to the set-aside requirements, the potential to provide IZ units off-site, new terminology, and technical corrections and changes to the existing regulations.

During this morning seminar, you will learn all you need to know about the changes to the IZ Regulations. The program will include a discussion of the most notable changes and clarifications being proposed by the Zoning Commission, including changes to targeted levels of affordability and the applicability of IZ to building additions.

Great Streets application deadline announced, AMPBID to host bilingual information session

The Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) is soliciting applications for the Great Streets Retail Small Business Grant . DMPED will award individual grants of up to a maximum of $50,000.00 each. The application deadline is Friday, October 21, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. The purpose of Great Streets Retail Small Business Grants is to support existing small businesses, attract new businesses, increase the District’s tax base, create new job opportunities for District residents and transform emerging commercial corridors into thriving neighborhood centers.

AMPBID will be conducting a bilingual (English & Spanish) session in Adams Morgan to assist neighborhood businesses who want to apply for this grant. The session will take place on September 21st from 3 to 4:30 pm at the Festival Center at 1640 Columbia Rd., NW.

Applications will be online on the Great Streets website starting on Friday.

Are you ready for the upcoming funding round? Our mission is to ensure that all interested and qualified small businesses in our corridors are ready to apply! We support small businesses by providing capital improvement grants up to $50,000 for exterior and interior renovations and partial operational improvements.

To begin, these are the program's main qualifiers:

  1. Is your business located in one of our corridors? Click here to view the map
  2. Does your business promote foot traffic?
  3. Has your business’s average annual revenue been under one million dollars for the past three years?
