As another year comes to a close we'd like to take a moment to pause and recognize our members, partners, and supporters. Without all of you, AMPBID would not be as effective at keeping Adams Morgan clean, safe and friendly.
Offices of the Adams Morgan Partnership will be closed on Monday, December 25 and Monday, January 1. This newsletter will be taking next week off and will return the first week in January.
The Adams Morgan Clean Team works a 365-day schedule but will work a shortened schedule on the holidays.
If you haven't see our new holiday installation at the corner of Columbia and Adams Mill Roads, you've still got plenty of time. The illuminated display will be open to the public daily through early January and we encourage everyone to plan a visit!

As we’re now in the holiday and gift-giving (and buying) season, HSEMA wanted to share with you a product from the DC Fusion Center regarding cautionary tips around QR Codes. As more people are shopping at new areas and in new ways this time of year, it’s especially important to be vigilant of potential fraud. I am already blown away by the generosity of so many people in our community who have pitched in to create an unforgettable Christmas. If you are interested in donating, you can

We are tentatively scheduled to perform the aforementioned water main tie-in next Wednesday

Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over: MPD Focused on Traffic Safety and Impaired Driving the Holiday Season
|
The Metropolitan Police Department is reminding drivers to safeguard your freedom, and the lives of others, by committing to sober driving during this year’s holiday season. MPD is teaming up with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to help prevent tragedies previously seen around the holiday by focusing on preventing impaired and distracted driving.
MPD’s continued focus on traffic safety comes after the District of Columbia saw an increase in traffic fatalities in 2023. As the District of Columbia continues to work towards preventing all fatal and serious injury crashes through the citywide Vision Zero initiative, MPD is focused on making sure drivers stay safe while on the roads and addressing drivers who put others at risk.
Drivers will see officers working on a special high-visibility enforcement campaign to spread the message about the dangers of drunk driving from December 15, 2023, through January 1, 2024.
“The holidays are a time for celebration and joy. Drunk driving jeopardizes not only your own life, but also those on the road with you,” said Chief of Police Pamela A. Smith. “MPD has zero tolerance for people who don’t drive sober.”
MPD reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.
Remember: a few dollars spent on a ride is a lot cheaper than a DUI, which can cost up to $10,000. Something else to consider: Don’t ever be too proud or embarrassed to ask for a ride. Allowing a sober driver to help you get home safely keeps you and others safe. What’s more embarrassing than drunkenly asking for a sober ride home? Spending the night in jail. Having your car impounded. Losing your job or your security clearance. Take your pick.
No one should mix drinking and driving, and no one is immune to the effects of drunk driving. If you find yourself drunk and stranded with your vehicle, give your keys to a sober driver who can safely drive you home. Remind your friends to never get in the vehicle with a drunk driver. If you have a friend who is about to drive drunk, take away their keys and help them get home safely. Don’t worry about offending someone — they’ll thank you later. Always have a plan before you head out for the evening. If you wait until after you’ve been drinking to figure out how to get from one place to the next, you will already be too impaired to make the right choices.
If you see someone driving unsafely, call 9-1-1 immediately.
The Metropolitan Police Department is committed to our partnerships with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the District’s Department of Transportation (DDOT), and US Department of Transportation to make the roadways in our communities a safe place for everyone.

Ascend.Her Capital Accelerator 2024 Cohort
|
Women of color entrepreneurs face unique challenges, from raising capital to external biases affecting day-to-day operations. As an expansion of
Wacif's award-winning Ascend Capital Accelerator program
, Ascend.Her is dedicated to serving women of color entrepreneurs through a holistic, multi-week program. Our hands-on approach includes interactive workshops, one-on-one expert consultations, and individualized support. Ultimately, our goal is to support the growth and long-term success of women entrepreneurs of color in the Greater Washington, D.C. region, including the surrounding counties in Maryland and Virginia.
This year’s Ascend.Her Capital Accelerator:
Lead Cohort is designed to help entrepreneurs of color navigate a complex marketplace and build resilient businesses in an ever-changing marketplace. Together, we will pause and reflect on our experiences as entrepreneurs and leaders to date while determining how to lead businesses into their next chapters of growth and development. Ascend.Her Lead will include up to fifteen (15) local small businesses owned by women of color entrepreneurs from the Greater Washington, D.C. region.

ELEVATE Applications are now open
|
The Coalition for Nonprofit Housing and Economic Development (CNHED) and the George Washington University, School of Business (GWSB) are pleased to announce the launch of the fourth round of ELEVATE, a three-month executive education program designed for minority-owned businesses located in the District of Columbia.
ELEVATE is the only minority executive education program in DC that is backed by a university partner. The 3-month ELEVATE curriculum, developed by the George Washington School of Business (GWSB) Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence, is led by GWSB faculty members.
ELEVATE Cohort IV will convene twice monthly on Saturdays from February 17, 2024, to May 18, 2024, to provide best-in-class instruction to sharpen further the business acumen of the minority, female-owned businesses to enhance their competitive advantage and prime them for growth. Through this program, participants will acquire new skills that will assist them in increasing revenue and employment while also more effectively and efficiently managing their business’s products and services.

💸 Commercial Property Acquisition Fund (DMPED)
The Commercial Property Acquisition Fund will provide eligible businesses with down payment assistance of up to $750,000 or 25% of the sale price, whichever is less, for the acquisition of commercial property in the District. This year, businesses will need to complete three mandatory sessions in order to apply for the Fund. OPEN now on a rolling basis until funds are expended.
