New Bridge Fund Grant opens November 28

Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) announced a new $8 million round of the Bridge Fund grant program that will provide financial support to businesses and sole proprietors in the restaurant, entertainment, and retail sectors.

“Our restaurant, entertainment, and retail industries are critical to our comeback,” said Mayor Bowser. “When we have great places for people to dine out, and shop, and visit, that not only improves the quality of life for our residents, it draws more visitors into DC. And when we have more visitors in DC, and more people spending at local businesses, that creates jobs, it allows us to invest in important programs and services, and it drives new opportunities for DC residents.”

The grants will provide flexible financial relief to small businesses and sole proprietors that experienced revenue loss during the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency, with priority going to those that have not received prior rounds of relief funds. Grantees will be allowed to use funds for needs such as rent, payroll and labor, and operating expenses. Awards will range from $5,000 – $45,000. The program will be managed by the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development and administered by City First Enterprises (CFE).

The application for the Bridge Fund opens November 28 at 12 pm. To begin preparing for the application, sign-up for a Pre-Application Information Session:

Intern with the Adams Morgan Partnership

The Adams Morgan Partnership BID seeks a dynamic self-starter to assist with event planning and research efforts. This is an outstanding opportunity for an individual interested in learning more about nonprofit fundraising, placemaking, commercial real estate, and event planning. The internship offers exciting hands-on experience and the opportunity to gain new skills.

We are currently recruiting for an unpaid Spring intern (we offer a transportation stipend) -- interested applicants should submit their resume by November 30. We typically have three interns per year, one each in the Spring, Summer, and Fall.

We need your Adams Morgan Pedestrian Zone (AMPZ) feedback!

New: Click here to download our new flyer "Adams Morgan Pedestrian Zone: Where are we and what do we expect in 2023" with recap of the AMPZ in 2022 and what we're working on for next year. We distributed this flyer to businesses last week but it's available to download here.

This year’s series of pedestrian zones has essentially been a pilot project and we need your input to help determine its future.

  • Business survey, AMPZ#3 (October 23) -- this survey is specifically for businesses in Adams Morgan (not just in the Pedestrian Zone area). This survey contains links to business surveys for the prior AMPZs.
  • Visitor Survey - This is for residents, visitors, etc. who attended one or more of the Pedestrian Zones.

All of these surveys as well as more information about the Adams Morgan Pedestrian Zone (and a FAQs page ) can be found on our website at admodc.org/ampz .

The DC Office of Planning is hosting a survey on their website to get the public's feedback on Streets for the People events including the Adams Morgan Pedestrian Zone. This feedback is very important to help inform future programs. The survey can be found here.

New: Adams Morgan-based customer loyalty program

Hi Adams Morgan Restaurants,

We are the founders of Mola Empanada at 2438 18th Street! We are launching a restaurant customer-loyalty platform, called Feed , in Adams Morgan. Feed is free for restaurants to use. We will run paid digital advertising campaigns for the app and also for any Adams Morgan restaurant that joins the platform.

The platform lets each restaurant set their own rewards rate for their customers, provides you with an automated customer email list, and informs you how much each customer spends at your restaurant. The rewards can be used by customers at any restaurant on the platform and are paid out to the receiving restaurant in cash by the platform. The only fee is a standard payment processing fee of 2.9% +30 cents per transaction.

If you are interested in joining, please email us at taylor@getfeedapp.com or molaempanada@gmail.com . We can answer any questions you may have, and start building your profile on the platform. We will build your menu, help you set your reward rates, and get started on your digital ad campaign.

Talk soon!

Warmly,

Taylor & J'Nae

Updates from RAMW

The Business and Entrepreneurship Support to Thrive (BEST) Amendment Act was unanimously passed by DC Council yesterday. The BEST Act reduces some key fees and simplifies some licensing and renewal processes. RAMW is a member of a small working group finalizing the legislation and advocated for adding a rule to prohibit closing a restaurant solely for having a lapsed business license, an issue that is a significant concern for members. This important amendment was included in the final bill. The BEST Act is scheduled for a final vote December 6.

Also in DC, the RECOVERY Act (Rediscover Equitable Central Occupancy Vitality and Encourage Resilient Yield Amendment) is scheduled for a public hearing on Tuesday . This bill would provide tax relief and other incentives in the Central Business District, which has been slower than other cities to see workers return to downtown and to recover following pandemic shutdowns. Contact che@ramw.org to testify or provide comments.

Our partners at the National Restaurant Association have posted their latest operator survey about current business conditions to help inform their advocacy and education efforts. Take the survey here.
