The Adams Morgan Partnership will be hosting our first MASKerade selfie contest from October 17-31, 2020.
|
We want you to encourage your customers to wear face masks that are fancy, decorated, customized, etc. (and still safely cover their nose and mouth). They will enter the contest by taking a selfie at your business and posting it on social media with the hashtag #AdMoMask. The winning individual will get a $100 gift card
to your business
and your business will receive a $300 cash prize.
That's an extra $400 for your business by encouraging your customers' creativity.

In a year full of disappointing event cancelations, we're excited to announce that the annual
Adams Morgan Apple Festival and Pie Baking Contest
will be happening on Saturday, October 31, at the Farmers Market at SunTrust Plaza. Obviously there will be some changes, for example we won't have the heirloom apple tasting and everything will be following the city's farmers market safety protocols.
We will, however, have the pie baking contest! And instead of local celebrities judging the pies,
YOU
will be able to vote on your favorites. Contestants' pies will be sliced and packaged individually and will each include information on how to rate that pie online. Slices will be sold to the public during the regular farmers market hours and 100% of the proceeds will go to the
Reed-Cooke Neighborhood Association's COVID-19 Relief Fund
.

Music on the Move with ADMObile: Saturdays from 5-7pm
|
Schedule update:
We won't be out this weekend as our partners at Songbyrd will be busy opening their new venture --
Byrdland Records
-- at Union Market, but we'll be back on Saturday, October 31.
On Saturdays in October, the Adams Morgan Partnership is partnering with
Songbyrd Music House and Record Cafe
on a new project called
#ADMObile
. Featuring a fully decked-out vintage truck and a variety of musical performances, community members enjoy music from a safe distance while dining, shopping, and strolling through the neighborhood. We will be hosting ADMObile events each Saturday from 5-7pm through the end of October (weather permitting).
The truck will make its way around Adams Morgan making stops for performances along 18th Street and Columbia Road. Performances will feature a mix of all music genres and will rotate on a weekly basis. We’d also like to give a special thanks to our community partner,
T-Mobile
, for their assistance in making these fun, socially-distanced events possible!

DC Law requires every business to clear its own sidewalk of snow and ice within 8 hours after it stops snowing.
Our goal is for you to clear your sidewalk during and immediately after a snow event, so that the business district stays open and accessible for everyone. Our clean team will be out salting the sidewalks, clearing bus shelters, and making sure ramps at crosswalks are accessible.

With virtually no snow last winter, many businesses have no recent experience in dealing with a significant snowfall. It's important to have a plan, make sure you have the shovels, salt, etc. you need to implement your plan, and staff that is able to get to the business in the event that public transportation is affected.

|
Beginning November 9, 2020, the BB&T Adams Morgan branch at 1801 Adams Mill Road, NW, will be one of Truist's first blended branches, where they will be able to offer extended services to customers of both banks—together under one roof.
Both BB&T and SunTrust associates will be on hand to answer any questions. Of course, you can still do your banking however you prefer—here, at any other BB&T branch, online, or with a mobile app. Or give them a call at 202-332-3891.

Tent & Portable heater permitting webinar
|
In light of Mayor Bowser’s announcement of the Streatery Winter Ready Grant Program and the creation of a comprehensive Outdoor Dining Guide, The Mayor's office of Nightlife and Culture (MONC) has received several inquiries regarding guidance on the permitting process of tents and propane heaters. In order to provide as much clarity as possible, MONC is hosting a Tent and Portable Heater Permitting Webinar for nightlife businesses that are currently operating outdoors or are seeking to operate outdoors. Some of the topics we will cover are but not limited to; DDOT TOPS Tent/Electric & Fuel Fired Heater Permit process (Public & Private Space), tent requirements, and outdoor dining.

Small Business Resiliency Fund
Deadline Extended to Friday, October 23!
|
The
Small Business Resiliency Fund
is a part of the District’s efforts to meet the existing and future COVID-19 related needs for District’s small businesses to help businesses continue operations while protecting people, assets and presence.
The Small Business Resiliency Fund will provide $2.2 million in emergency operational funding and will be open to small, local businesses in the District of Columbia with 25 or fewer employees and independently owned restaurants without regard to employee-size.

Small Business Majority Holiday Gift Guide

This year, Small Business Majority will be launching our holiday gift guide in time for Small Business Saturday. This is a great way for you to freely promote your business and your products this holiday season. Approved applicants will be featured on our website from November 16, 2020 - January 1, 2021 and will be provided with a toolkit to share the gift guide with your customers.

As the weather is changing, allergies are kicking in, and we are officially entering cold and flu season, we want to make sure information on testing resources is at the top of your inbox. Leaders across the region are encouraging people to get tested, and if you feel that you need a test for any reason you should definitely get tested.

In DC, Mayor Bowser announced the launch of a COVID notification system through your smartphone. DC residents and those who spend a lot of time in DC can opt in to the District's smartphone notification system alerting users of potential Covid-19 exposure starting today. The system will not share location data from a user’s device with DC Health, Apple or Google. Mayor Bowser encourages "all District residents, and those who spend time in the District, to opt into DC CAN.”

Mayor Bowser also released an updated list of high risk states. Anyone coming into DC from a high-risk state who was traveling for non-essential activities will be required to self-quarantine for 14 days from their arrival in the District.

Also in DC, the Council held a Legislative Session yesterday. Most legislation passed yesterday does not impact our industry, but we had two big wins. First, the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) was extended by seven weeks, and traditional Unemployment Insurance was also extended by seven weeks. The start date is unclear, but we will keep you posted as more information becomes available. The second piece of legislation passed the first reading, which expands the extended hours program. The legislation that passed allows on-premise retailers or manufacturers holding an on-site sales and consumption permit who are registered with ABRA’s extended hours program to sell, serve, and allow the consumption of alcoholic beverages until 4 am, and to operate 24-hours a day on those days a District of Columbia professional sports team is playing in a postseason game.

The HartBeat of Main Street Grant Program
The
HartBeat of Main Street Grant Program
will fund solutions that help small business owners respond and adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic, and also help to revitalize and strengthen older and historic downtown commercial districts. Grants of $5,000 to $15,000 will be awarded on a competitive and first-come, first-served basis. A minimum of 50 percent of grants will benefit diverse-owned businesses, as defined by the Small Business Administration as minority, woman, veteran, disabled, and/or LGBTQ-owned.
Grant applicants are not required to be customers of The Hartford. Applications will be weighed and grants awarded without consideration of applicant’s being or not being a present, past, or prospective customer of The Hartford.

. There is no other online form.

Since its founding, our community has served hundreds of residents. Joseph’s House continues to offer a welcoming, loving community and currently provides compassionate medical and nonmedical care to individuals with advanced HIV/AIDS and terminal illnesses experiencing homelessness. Join us on October 22nd for an hour-long virtual event to celebrate Joseph’s House’s 30-year anniversary and reflect on what has made our community a place of healing since 1990.

During this session, the DCRA Small Business Resource Center (SBRC) staff will provide one-on-one assistance with navigating through the regulatory process. You will gain in-depth knowledge of registering with corporations (i.e. Limited Liability Company, Corporations, Non-Profit, etc.) and with the basic steps of obtaining a business license. Additionally, you will receive assistance with the zoning application process (i.e. Certificate of Occupancy and or Home Occupancy Permit).This opportunity is geared towards future and current business owners looking to conduct business in the District of Columbia.
