KAMA DC’s Immigrant Storytelling Night:

Relationships + Love

Speakers will touch on themes of romance, community, friendship, and everything between including:

Irene , a Russian American Unaccompanied Refugee Minor (URM) foster parent who currently parents two unaccompanied Congolese refugee minors; Ed , a Syrian translator performing standup on his myriad of DC dating experiences; Krystle , a Filipino-American, who will speak about her family’s process of immigrating to the U.S. over a 28-year period; Giuseppe , one of the two “Peruvian Brothers” who will give us the scoop on building a food truck and catering empire with a sibling and larger family.

Adams Morgan PorchFest returns on October 5 bringing

thousands of visitors who could be your customers!

DC's most creative music festival returns this fall with dozens of local bands. On Saturday, October 5 , we'll turn over 16 porches and stoops into stages for the day for Adams Morgan PorchFest . In 2018, we hosted 57 performances on 16 stages, and we're already working on bringing back your favorite bands. Just to get you in the spirit we've put together a short teaser video .

This year we will be introducing a wristband discount program to encourage visitors to patronize Adams Morgan businesses. Wristbands will be distributed for free at the PorchFest HQ in SunTrust Plaza and there will be a digital map listing your discounts and leading customers to your door. Adams Morgan Apple Festival and Pie Contest date set

The Adams Morgan Apple Festival will be held on Saturday October 26, 2019 from 10:30am to 1pm at SunTrust Plaza. The festival is a collaborative effort between the Adams Morgan Partnership and the Adams Morgan Farmers Market.

This year will also mark the 6th annual Apple Pie Contest with proceeds from slice sales benefiting Platform of Hope . Each contestant will bake three identical pies -- one is for judging and the remaining pies are cut with slices being sold for $5 each.

Adams Morgan Day was amazing

The Adams Morgan Day organizers want to thank the whole community -- businesses and residents -- for helping to make the 41st edition of Adams Morgan Day a smashing success. Head over to their website to see the media coverage.

Adams Morgan is home to the longest-running neighborhood farmers market in the city! Visit Licking Creek Bend Farm , RavenHook Bakehouse , Remi's Plants and Flowers and bi-weekly Purple Mountain Grown locally grown organic rice and flour for all your essential weekly needs from 8:00am to 1:00pm, rain or shine, at SunTrust Plaza, 18th Street and Columbia Road NW. Bring your own bags and get your seasonal fruits and vegetables every Saturday through December. Check our Facebook page for each week's produce.

Great Streets Small Business Grant Funding Availability

The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) welcomes submissions from eligible small businesses seeking to improve their place of business through this capital improvement grant program.

Purpose :

The purpose of the Great Streets Initiative is to transform certain designated emerging commercial corridors into thriving, walkable, shoppable and inviting neighborhood experiences. The Great Streets Initiative does this by supporting existing businesses, attracting new businesses, increasing the District’s tax base, and creating new job opportunities for District residents.

Award :

DMPED will award up $3,000,000.00 total in grants. Maximum request per application is $50,000.00.

Eligible businesses :

A new or existing small business owner whose business location is either within, and/or plans to move to a Great Street Corridor are eligible (see map at: http://ht.ly/m90F30cM0bz ).

Ineligible businesses:

Adult Entertainment, Auto Body Shops, Financial Institutions, Construction/General Contracting, Home-Based Businesses, Non-Profit Child Development Centers, Hotels, Phone Stores, and Real Estate Development/Property Management Realtor.

High-Performance Building Innovation and Training Hub for DC: Input Requested

Your input is needed to help the DC Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) most effectively support building owners, operators, contractors, developers, and designers in meeting the District’s green building requirements and ambitious policy and code developments. You have been selected for this survey through coordinated outreach to key District professionals in these roles.

This survey is being conducted by a team led by the Institute for Market Transformation , with support from Arup , the Building Energy Exchange , New Buildings Institute , and Steven Winter Associates . DOEE has selected this team to develop and operate a high-performance building innovation and training hub that will identify the high-impact needs of the District and its practitioners in its meeting of short- and long-term green building and climate goals. A key part of this work is understanding from practitioners what the opportunities, barriers, and needs are to achieve more widespread adoption of high-performance buildings across the District.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated. The survey should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. Please respond to the survey by Friday, September 20. ABRA Books and Record Training

The Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA) invites hotel and restaurant licensees and their staff to attend Books and Records Training on Thursday, September 26, 2019. Training will cover: Food sales requirements and reporting; Quarterly statement filings; and Books and records tracking.

Attend one of ABRA's training sessions on Thursday, September 26, 2019:

9-11 a.m. (Spanish interpreter available); or
2-4 p.m. (Korean interpreter available).

Inaugural Business Preparedness Day Invitation

On September 17th , the DC Business Emergency Management Operations Center (DC BEMOC) will be hosting their first ever Business Preparedness Day from 9:00 to 3:00 at HSEMA’s Headquarters. This 6 hour event will convene first responders and emergency managers from District agencies and private sector partners to:

Discuss ongoing business preparedness initiatives in the District
Showcase new technologies that are being leveraged by HSEMA and the BEMOC
Conduct the first ever BEMOC Tabletop Exercise

The purpose of the Business Preparedness Day is to help DC HSEMA better understand the needs of the District’s Private Sector before, during and after an emergency. These discussions will help identify and prioritize operational issues that can be solved through Public-Private Partnerships.
