Arts Celebration Highlights Adams Morgan Community
|
The Adams Morgan Partnership celebrated its new “look” at an event at the LINE DC Hotel last night, launching new banners designed by local artist
Rebecca Williams
that will go up throughout the neighborhood in the next few weeks. The Partnership worked with local creative agency
Maga Design
to create a new visual identity for the neighborhood in 2018. The new identity has has been implemented in bus shelter posters, marketing materials, and will soon be visible along the sidewalks of the neighborhood.
The subjects of the banner artwork were adapted from local photography and iconic figures that have impacted the culture of the community, including Ian MacKaye of
Fugazi
and U.S. Supreme
Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, as well as themes of
diversity, social justice and activism
, the arts, and family.
“Making these relationships and being in a community is what it’s about,” Rebecca Williams said last night, surrounded by community members and artists. When this comes alive, it’s going to feel really good.”
The street pole banners are part of a broader placemaking effort. In the next few weeks, more than 100 bann
ers will be
installed in the neighborhood’s commercial corridors welcoming neighbors and visitors to the community and highlighting Adams Morgan. To read more about the banners, visit

The planning meeting will be a chance to get plugged into a volunteer role that is of interest to you and to share in creating the vision for this year's festival. This is a great way to get involved in the community, hear about the history of the neighborhood, meet great people, and learn valuable skills in major event planning. They are looking for new planning committee volunteers - and it is open to ALL! Please come to the meeting --

for any particular roles that you'd like. (And share with your friends!) This group will be continuing to convene monthly in the spring (March - June) and then more regularly -- biweekly/weekly starting in late summer (July - August) as the event gets closer.

Free Ice Cream at Nicecream on 3/21!

On March 21 (3/21)
Nicecream
will be offering unlimited, free ice cream to anyone that comes to any of their four local shops, including the Adams Morgan location at 1787 Columbia Rd. It is expected to be one of the biggest ice cream events of the year for DC so be sure to get in line early.

2019 CSA SEASON is rapidly approaching! And so is the Early Bird deadline - April 18
|
The intent of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is to partner with the farmer by providing a cash flow to enable the farmer to purchase seeds, hire staff, prepare equipment, plant, nurture and harvest. All of this happens months before the farmer can begin to get income from the sale of produce. The pre-purchase of membership gives the farmer a good sense of how much of the yield is needed for the CSA, which is critical to a smooth operation.
The CSA will start the first Saturday in June

There will be 3 sessions - June-July; August-September; October-November.

You can sign up for the entire season or by session. Either way, you need to pay before the session begins so plan accordingly. Early bird prices apply for the whole season.

Security Camera Rebate Program
|
The
Private Security Camera Rebate Program
creates a rebate for residents, businesses, nonprofits, and religious institutions to purchase and install security camera systems on their property and register them with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). The program provides a rebate of up to $200 per camera, with a maximum rebate of up to $500 per residential address (e.g., home offices, condo buildings, and apartments) and $750 for all other eligible addresses. The rebate is exclusively for the cost of the camera(s) including any applicable tax.

Bike To Work Day Registration Now Open
|
Spring is in the air, and with it, registration for Bike to Work Day (BTWD) 2019, organized by
Commuter Connections
and the
Washington Area Bicyclist Association
(WABA), is now open. Thousands are expected to register and participate in this year’s event on Friday, May 17, which will feature 115 pit stops across the region with refreshments, giveaways—and the chance to win one of many new bicycles as part of a free raffle. Additionally, the first 20,000 registrants to attend will receive a free T-shirt. Register for free at:

Apply for a Trash Compactor Grant
|
Grants up to $80,000 for demonstration projects to help DC Businesses purchase/lease and install commercial waste compactor to install trash compactors, which will minimize sanitation and rodent issues in the District’s commercial corridors. Priority is given to adjacent or nearby businesses that each apply and coordinate their efforts.

Information Session on Implementation of Paid Family Leave

Beginning on July 1, 2019, the District will begin the collection of a new payroll tax from employers. The tax will be a 0.62% assessment based on the wages paid to employees and will be used to support the newly created and District-run
Paid Family Leave
program.

2019 ABRA Renewal and Annual Payment Notice

Renewal packets and payment notices were mailed out to licensees on February 15, 2019. If you have not received your packet or payment notice, please complete the appropriate form below to provide the Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA) the information needed to send the necessary items to your attention. Once received, your request will be processed within 2 business days. If you still have not received your items, please contact ABRA at (202) 442-4423. Updated Information Forms:
Renewal packets and annual payments not returned by the April 1 deadline, will be subject to a late fee of $50 per business day (not to exceed the cost of the license), followed by a cancellation. Additionally, renewals must be completed and returned in-person at ABRA: 2000 14th Street, NW, Suite 400, Washington DC 20009
Annual payments must be postmarked no later than April 1. Annual payments not postmarked by April 1, must be paid in-person at ABRA. Please refer to the April 2019 schedule to determine total late penalties for renewal packets and annual payments submitted after April 1.

Interns work 20-25 hours per week at your business or event site. You set the schedule that works for you and the student. There is no expense to you.
