The Return of Adams Morgan Date Nights!

After having to cut the event short last year due to the pandemic, Adams Morgan Date Nights has returned with a familiar, but somewhat different format. We'll still be giving away fabulous date packages and offering great suggestions for staying close to your special someone while staying socially distant from others, but there will be takeout and even virtual options as well.

In light of the difficulties our members have had to endure over the last year we won't be asking businesses for prize donations -- instead, the prizes will be gift cards (purchased by us) to the Adams Morgan business chosen by the prize winner.

Sign up now at AdMoDateNights.com - the first prize drawing is this Friday!

SNF Small Business Growth & Recovery Fund

The National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC) and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) announced the launch of a major new initiative, the SNF Small Business Growth & Recovery Fund. The fund’s mission is to help U.S. small businesses, focusing on those owned by people of color, women and veterans as well as those in lower-income communities, find their footing in an acutely challenging economic landscape. The fund’s vision is both short- and long-term. It aims to help small businesses that have been severely impacted by the pandemic stabilize, and at the same time seeks to assist in building a more inclusive economy.

Striving to help address economic inequities, the fund will support U.S. small businesses, focusing on those owned by traditionally underserved groups by providing better access to capital through grants that do not need to be repaid.

The SNF Small Business Growth & Recovery Fund grant program, which will open with $1.3 million, will award U.S.-based small businesses with up to $20,000 each in non-repayable grants, accompanied by complementary training and mentorship to support them. The initiative will be managed through Equivico by NCRC.

Update from RAMW

From Kathy Hollinger, president, RAMW

On the vaccine front, so many of you are educating and informing your employees about when, where, and how they can get vaccinated and it's a changing situation every day. While we do still anticipate that there may be steps for employers to take to register for their employees by industry in some jurisdictions, individuals should NOT wait for this. If you are communicating vaccine info to your teams, you should be sharing that they should individually pre-register in their own city, state, or county of residence to ensure they have the earliest vaccine opportunity that is available to them. Furthermore, as many of you reworked and reimagined your operations to meet the needs of the pandemic and focused operations on food distribution and/or grocery store models, you can likely categorize your business as such, meaning your employees are eligible for the vaccine in an earlier tier or stage . If this fits your operation, when employees register in any jurisdiction, you should encourage them to select options (wording changes from location to location) for food and agriculture, food manufacturing/packaging and/or distribution and grocery stores -- whichever best applies to your model and is earliest in the vaccine phases.

In DC, employees should go to coronavirus.dc.gov/vaccine to register to get updates.

Relief updates : The House Committee on Oversight and Reform passed promising legislation that would directly provide states, localities, Tribes, and territories with funding to fight the coronavirus pandemic and its devastating economic impacts. The legislation would provide DC with an estimated $1.49 billion, in addition to the $755 million received, to make the District whole from being shortchanged in the original CARES Act. As a reminder, when the CARES Act passed, DC was not counted as a state, so it received significantly less funding than every other state, which resulted in the District's inability to address the pandemic adequately in comparison to other states. The legislation still needs to pass the Senate, and we will keep you posted on the status. This is an important step in providing District businesses and residents additional relief as we continue to battle the pandemic. It is unclear how this additional funding will be used at this time.

On the tipped wage conversation , in case you missed it, The Washington Post published an op-ed we wanted to share titled, Tipped workers have been hit hard by the pandemic. Congress could make things even worse , written by Valerie Graham, a DC tipped employee. Valerie was very involved in the Initiative 77 campaign a few years ago, and served as the plaintiff in our legal challenge against the DC Board of Elections. Her op-ed gives an important tipped employee perspective that eliminating the tip credit is not the answer, and will end up hurting the people they are ultimately trying to help.

Finally, it’s the last chance for free social distancing decals from DC Health Link . RAMW is working with DC Health Link to provide free seat/floor decals to remind customers to maintain 6 feet between themselves and others. These decals are intended to be an aid in business operations to keep patrons safe and healthy, while complying with the Mayor’s orders for social distancing. Each business can request up to six (6) floor decals, ten (10) seat decals, and eight (8) facemasks by emailing us at coverage@ramw.org by Wednesday February 24, 2021. In addition, DC Health Link has taken several steps to reduce financial barriers making it easier to enroll in quality, comprehensive health insurance coverage. If interested in talking with RAMW about health insurance options for your staff or individual coverage options, click here .
