The SunTrust Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Marathon & CareFirst Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Half Marathon on Saturday, March 17, 2012. The course passes many of our Capital’s major attractions between the start line, near RFK Stadium at C and 19th Streets NE, and the finish line on East Capitol Street at Armory Mall.

Road closures associated with the race may affect access to businesses and residents on the course on race day. Please expect delays and plan ahead. Columbia Road in Adams Morgan will be affected between 8:30 am and 9:45 am.

More information on detours, access lanes, metering intersections/bump cross routes, alternate routes and an interactive map are also available online. The site hosts a “community contact form” where you can submit questions or request alternate directions.

MPD patrol officers will be managing public safety and staff will be taking calls on Saturday at the Police Command Center to resolve any traffic problems [Special Number: 202-727-9099]. (Note- This number does not replace 911 for emergencies.) Police YahooGroups will also be monitoring feedback from neighbors who will need police supervisors to resolve matters at various checkpoints.

Haunted House location request

We recently got a request from Lucas Zarwell - zeekwe17@mac.com for space for a Haunted House next Fall. Lucas has produced Haunted Houses at the Warehouse previously. He is looking to expand his offerings, move into a larger space - inside or outside - and run it for 6 weeks from mid-September 2012 to the end of October 2012.

He is looking for a space that's anywhere from 7,000 to 12,000 square feet. The space would preferably be on one floor to avoid any issues with safety. Multiple floors can work, it just changes the approach when they design the event. If indoors, electrical access and clear entrance / exits would be required. They would try to apply any existing architecture in the design. They would need to acquire a temporary occupancy permit, and would apply for event insurance.

They think they would operate the even from 7-10 (last person out at 11) Wednesday-Sunday every week including October 29th, 30th, and 31st. Depending on the success, they may want to extend the event to Saturday, November 3rd.

They expect anywhere from 100-300 people in attendance each night (25 to 75 people per hour).

They would probably install the event over the course of one week and then remove after the final event day. All materials (costumes, set pieces) produced in the first year would be stored off-site for use the following year.

In partnership with DC Councilmembers, DC Water General Manager George Hawkins is touring the District of Columbia to talk about water rates and issues impacting our community. DC Water wants to talk with you about your water and sewer bill, tap water, construction projects, jobs and whatever else is on your mind.

DC Water has scheduled town hall meetings through out the city in 2012.
