Mayor Gray signed order to renew AMPBID for another 5 years - tax bills sent this week!

Mayor Vincent C. Gray signed the order reauthorizing the Adams Morgan Partnership Business Improvement District (AMPBID) on September 20, 2011. This order  extended the BID until September 30, 2016.

We are appreciative of the work of many people over the last year who helped make this possible. THANKS! The BID tax bills for FY2012 First Half were mailed earlier this week with copies of the Mayor's Order. The payments will be due by November 3, 2011. The regular due date is October 1 but the bills could not be mailed until the Mayor's order was issued.

Reminder!

The Annual Meeting ot the AMPBID will be Thursday, October 13th, 2010 at 5pm, at the Third District Police Headquarters, 1620 V Street, NW. Postcards were mailed to all property owners and business owners in early September.

AMPBID Annual Meeting Election Process

At the October 13th Annual Meeting, BID members will have the opportunity to vote for candidates for 5 board slots: three property owners and two business owners. The board members currently holding those positions have all indicated they will will be running for another term. Those are:

Business Owners:

Al Jirikowic

Justin Abad

Additional nominations are now closed.

Voting

Per the by-laws, any properties for which BID taxes are over 60 days delinquent, may not vote nor may they nominate members to the board.

For each class of member, the ballot will list all the candidate names, and members will vote for the number of open slots in that category.  For example, there are two business owner slots.  All members will have the opportunity to vote for two candidates from the list of all business owner candidates.

Proxies

Proxy votes are allowed.

Pursuant to the BID bylaws, those interested in voting in the board elections by proxy can either contact the BID to request a proxy form, or can develop their own form, as long as it includes: the date of the meeting at which it is applicable (October 13) full names, addresses and the dated signatures of both the individual issuing the proxy and the witness(es) to the signature. The proxy voter can be anyone to whom the property or business owner designates to vote for them and DOES NOT have to be a member of the Adams Morgan Partnership BID. All proxy forms must meet all these criteria to be accepted. The BID will have a proxy form available by fax, mail and by email.

Reminder about Crafty Bastards Deal-ie-o for October 1

Crafty Bastards, the annual arts and crafts fair on the campus of the Marie Reed School and Recreation Center is scheduled again for THIS Saturday, October 1, 2011 from 10 am to 5 pm - rain or shine. This event brings 35,000 people into Adams Morgan for the day.

Through the sponsorship, the Adams Morgan Partnership BID will have a booth in the front entrance to the festival. At the booth we will pass out materials from all our businesses along with the FREE Pocket Guide maps. Please give Clarence Myers, our Safety Ambassador whatever cards, menus, flyers you would like us to distribute that day no later than TOMORROW. Please call Clarence to arrange delivery at 202-536-9515.

In addition, we will pass out discount bracelets for any Adams Morgan business that wants to offer a special to shoppers on that day. There are 30 business that have indicated what discount or special deal they are offering! This could be a percentage discount on all purchases that day or a free drink or a half price appetizer, whatever you would like to offer. Only people wearing the bracelet will be eligible for the special on that day ONLY. Washington City Paper will place balloons outside each participating business to highlight your participation. They will also line 18th Street and Columbia Road with  additional balloons. Please let us know (if you haven't already) what discount or special offer you will do on October 1. We need to know TODAY!

Please join ANC 1C for a community household hazardous waste and electronic recycling day this Saturday, October 1 from 9 a.m. to Noon at Mary's Center, 2355 Ontario Road NW (enter Ontario Road parking lot)!

They will also have a mobile secure shredding unit on hand to shred any paper records you no longer need.

WHAT to bring:

Household electronics and hazardous waste to be recycled. Please visit www.anc1c.org for a complete list of items we are permitted to accept and those we cannot accept.

Also bring any records and papers (e.g., old bank statements, pay stubs, etc.) that you would like to have destroyed. The mobile shredding unit has a video monitor that allows you to watch as your documents are destroyed. Identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in the nation. Changes to METRO Bus lines 90, 92 and 93 - began September 25

On Sunday, Sept 25, WMATA started a new time-frequency schedule designed to make the  90/92/93 buses run more like the D.C. Circulator, where there is no set schedule, but buses generally run at 10-minutes intervals.

WMATA says that a 90, 92 or 93 bus should arrive every 7 to 8 minutes between 6am and 7pm. This scraps the idea that buses arrive at particular stops at a particular time. Because of traffic and other factors, the 90 lines can get behind, and then the Route 90/92/93 buses are off the set schedule, which causes bus bunching and wide gaps, according to WMATA.

The route between Anacostia and Adams Morgan (Via Capitol Hill, Florida, and U Street NW), will now have "time-frequency schedules" of 7-8 mins weekdays between 6am and 7pm.
