Adams Morgan Eats in the Streets
!
|
We have a brand new event coming up on July 29
and we need as many businesses as possible participating to make it a successful event.
We've received approval from the city to close 18th Street between Columbia Rd. and Kalorama Rd. and we will be hosting a food-centric event featuring music and art with space set aside for Adams Morgan businesses from other parts of the neighborhood to set up within the closure zone.
Important: this event is not just for food & beverage businesses.
We will have 10x10 spots available for up to 20 Adams Morgan businesses to set up within the closure zone (first come/first served).
There will be no outside vendors at this event
-- it is strictly for the benefit of Adams Morgan businesses.

BOLO: Suspects and Vehicle Sought in Destruction of Property Offenses in the District
|
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division and Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Washington Field Division seek the public’s assistance in identifying suspects and a vehicle in reference to Destruction of Property offenses that occurred on Sunday, July 2, 2023, in the District.

At approximately 4:30 am, the suspect detonated an explosive device on the sidewalk outside of the ATM at the Truist Bank located in the 2300 block of Washington Place, Northeast then fled the scene in a vehicle. The explosive device caused damage to the location. CCN: 23-106-401

At approximately 4:36 am, the suspect detonated an explosive device on the sidewalk in front of the doors at the Nike Store located in the 700 block of H Street, Northeast, then fled the scene in a vehicle. The explosive device caused damage to the location. CCN: 23-106-429

At approximately 4:45 am, the suspect threw a Molotov cocktail style object at the Safeway store located in the 300 block of 40th Street, Northeast then fled the scene in a vehicle. The Molotov cocktail caused damage to the location. CCN: 23-106-412

Former NPR Producer to Host Launch Party about Neighborhood in Adams Morgan
|
Veteran producer, reporter, and guest host Katie Davis will be launching the second season of the
HumanitiesDC Porchtales Podcast,
chronicling her eclectic neighborhood of Lanier Place, in historic Adams Morgan. Most city residents are familiar with the bustling life of 18th Street, Columbia Road, and the many cross streets that run through the heart of the Adams Morgan neighborhood. Katie Davis, however, takes listeners on a more personal journey through the lives of those who call Lanier Place home, a street tucked behind the hustle and bustle, home to a 115-year-old fire station, and microcosm of the larger city around it.
On July 13th, at the second event in the Summer HumanitiesDC Culture Series line-up, hear from Lanier Place residents of yesteryear and of today. Listen to the stories of the corner store that has since disappeared, the kids' street football that paused whenever the fire trucks needed to get by, and the various people from all walks of life that crossed paths and spent time together over the last sixty years. Reflect on the power of collecting and sharing the intimate stories of the neighborhoods that make up our thriving city. Featuring live music from DC-born and renowned musical artist, Herman Burney.

OAG in the Community: A Discussion of Environmental Health & Justice in the District of Columbia

As a result of the interest generated by their Citywide Ward Listening Tour earlier this year, the Office of Attorney General will continue the dialog with topic-specific community conversations alongside the Council’s At-Large Councilmembers.
The first of these events, commencing now and continuing into the fall, focuses on Environmental Health and Justice in the District of Columbia. It takes place next
Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at 6:00 PM
at the Lamond Riggs Neighborhood Library, 5401 South Dakota Ave NE (at Jefferson Street NE). The conversation will be led by Attorney General Brian Schwalb and At-Large Councilmember Christina Henderson, Chairperson of the Council’s
Committee on Health
. The Committee on Health is responsible for matters concerning health and environmental health; the regulation of health occupations and professions, and health-care inspectors.

Adams Morgan Moratorium Hearing
|
The Alcoholic Beverage Cannabis Administration (ABCA) will hold a hearing at
10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2023
, to receive public comment concerning the renewal of the Adams Morgan Moratorium Zone. The Board recently extended the moratorium on an emergency basis. It now seeks comment on a resolution adopted by Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 1C that, if approved by the Board, would increase the number of allowable tavern licenses to 25 to be phased in with no more than 4 new tavern licenses per year. The ANC Resolution is available on ABCA’s website www.abca.dc.gov.

⚽ Extended Hours for 2023 Women's World Cup ⚽
|
Eligible licensees may operate 24-hours and sell and serve alcohol between 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. during the FIFA 2023 Women's World Cup taking place in Australia and New Zealand between July 20 - August 20, 2023.
To participate, licensees
must register
and pay a non-refundable $100 fee by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, July 17.
If approved, licensees will be issued a permit that must be posted next to their alcohol license inside the premises.
Note the following:
-
Eligible licensees include On-Premises Retailers, Manufacturers with an On-Site Sales and Consumption Permit, and Temporary License holders.
-
Extended hours start the evening of the first day of the tournament—Thursday, July 20—and end at 4:00 a.m. on the last day—Sunday, August 20.
-
Alcohol sales, service, and consumption are NOT permitted between 4:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.

Settlement Agreements
and
Board Orders
apply and may affect eligibility.

Registration in ABCA’s
Extended Holiday Hours Program
and previous World Cup application approvals do not extend to the 2023 Women's World Cup.

Mayor’s Office Encourages Turning On Closed Captions
The DC Mayor’s Office of Deaf, Deafblind, and Hard of Hearing is encouraging all businesses to turn on their TV’s closed captioning services to ensure accessibility for all guests. Closed captioning is free and by law already included in your TV. More information is attached to today's email.

District Capitalized Micro-Line of Credit pilot
. Life Asset will award each qualified business up to $10,000 at 6% interest for 1-year term with the option to renew. This pilot will initially focus on

💸 Commercial Property Acquisition Fund (DMPED)
The Commercial Property Acquisition Fund will provide eligible businesses with down payment assistance of up to $750,000 or 25% of the sale price, whichever is less, for the acquisition of commercial property in the District. This year, businesses will need to complete three mandatory sessions in order to apply for the Fund. OPEN now on a rolling basis until funds are expended.
