Nightlife public safety roundtable discussion

In response to concerns raised from the nightlife industry and the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), the Mayor's Office of Nightlife and Culture and MPD will be hosting a roundtable discussion to address public safety concerns, to include an increase in theft from autos near our nightlife corridors.

New food & beverage workshop series

Calling all food & beverage entrepreneurs! Cureate is launching a new workshop series, Cureate Connect , for growth stage entrepreneurs looking to scale up their business operations. Enrollees will attend 10 workshops at Union Market, each taught by at least one industry expert. Graduates will have the chance to participate in a pitch competition at The Village Cafe for a total of $20K in awards. Applications are open now and close Friday, December 6.

New Fines for Non-Compliance with the DC Commuter Benefits Law

Are you a DC organization with 20 or more employees? The DC Commuter Benefits Law requires businesses (including non-profits) with 20 or more employees (full-time or part-time) in DC to offer commuter benefits. Starting on November 14th, businesses operating in Washington, DC that are not in compliance with the DC Commuter Benefits Law, will be subject to fines.

What are the fines for non-compliance?

For the first offense, each month that a business is not in compliance could result in a fine of $100 per covered employee. Repeat offenders would see fines of $200 per employee for the second offense, $400 per employee for the third offense, and $800 per employee for subsequent offenses. Invitation: 2nd Business Preparedness Day - Dec. 4th

The District of Columbia is no stranger to large gatherings. And with the 2020 election cycle looming, it’s safe to say that we will only see more demonstrations, special events, and of course the presidential inauguration. While these events draw thousands of visitors to the city, they can cause significant traffic congestion, security concerns, and disrupt the daily operations of District businesses.

In preparation for these events, the DC Business Emergency Management Operations Center (DC BEMOC) will be hosting the 2nd quarterly Business Preparedness Day to convene public and private sector partners to discuss:

How to prepare for large gatherings and minimize the impact they may have on your business.
