Adams Morgan welcomes new businesses and businesses host celebrations this weekend

New business: Libertine cocktail lounge and bistro at 2435 18th Street, NW (formerly Toledo Lounge) opened on Tuesday. The main selling point of Libertine is the over 25 brands of Swiss- and French-style absinthes originating from across Europe and the United States as well as other absinthe-like liquors, such as Herbsaint and pastis. The new bar also offers beer and wine and a menu of seafood items, steak frites, and banh mi.  This is the sister restaurant of the Black Squirrel so you know its gonna be good! Check it out soon!

Celebrations this weekend (there are lots):

Carriage House (open for a few weeks now) will have their grand opening event this Saturday, July 13 from 9:00 pm-12:00am.  This event will feature free food, DJs, and various drink and beer specials.

Safe Bars training

Safe Bars trains and empowers staff at bars and clubs to recognize and respond to incidents of sexual harassment and assault among patrons.

Approximately half of all sexual assault perpetrators are under the influence of alcohol at the time of the assault.  Bystander intervention is a key approach to preventing sexual violence. Bar owners, managers, security personnel, and other staff are in a unique position to intervene to prevent sexual assault and create safer and more welcoming spaces for patrons.

Safe Bars is offering our first five trainings for free! If you work at a bar, club, restaurant or other alcohol-serving establishment and you'd like to receive a free training (available in July and August only), contact Lauren R. Taylor at lauren@defendyourself.org or call 301-608-3708.

Think Local First 's Eat Local Farm-to-Street Party - July 27th - vendors needed

There is still space available in the Eat Local First Farm-to-Street Party! They are looking to fill vendor spots for their "Made in DC Marketplace" (local artisans/ producers) as well as food sponsors. They would love to get as many people city-wide to participate.
Last year attendance reached over 10,000 people, and generated over 92 million media impressions.

This year's Farm-to-Street Party will be on July 27th - 1 to 7 PM at Union Market, 1309 5th Street, NE Washington, DC.

StoopFest Adams Morgan! Coming your way October 5th!

Adams Morgan Showcases Local Musicians with StoopFest – October 5, 2013

Adams Morgan's deep musical heritage stretches from legendary jazz guitarist Charlie Byrd's appearances at the Showboat (and beyond) to the eclectic range of styles that can be heard here today.  StoopFest celebrates local talent by turning the front stoops and porches of several Adams Morgan homes into performance spaces where local musicians will play for the community -- and for free!  The sounds will be spread throughout the residential side streets of the neighborhood, making the stunning architecture there the backdrop as you follow your ears from house to house.

On October 5, 2013 from noon to 4 pm, the stoops and porches of several Adams Morgan residences will serve as temporary stages for local musicians to share their talent (for free) with anyone who happens to be walking by.  “Adams Morgan has a rich musical heritage, and many of our residents are working musicians -- StoopFest is a family friendly way to share their talent with the community,” says Kristen Barden of the Adams Morgan Partnership BID.  Inspired by a similar effort in Somerville, MA, StoopFest is music to your ears!

If you are interested in sharing your stoop, or your songs, at the First Annual StoopFest, please contact Kristen at Kbarden@adamsmorganonline.org .  Or just dust off the guitar and practice on your porch that day.  This is a joint project with Cultural Tourism DC and will bookend Art4All DC - Once City, Four Quadrants, Activated with Arts: A Festival of Festivals taking place September 13 – October 6.
