1) DC WATER to shut off water service on Monday night June 20
This week DC Water has been notifying all affected businesses and property owners about
a scheduled water shut off - Monday night June 20th beginning at 1:00 am into Tuesday
morning June 21st at 6:30 am.
DC Water would like to perform a shut down to perform work in support of the
ongoing 18th Street Streetscape project.
The construction will be taking place at 18th St. /Florida Ave. & U St
N.W, but in order to isolate the main at the construction site, the shut off
will affect the addresses below and extends to Columbia Rd NW. Due to aging
infrastructure, some of the valves that would have made the affected area more
restrictive are defective. Most of these valves are slated to be replaced in
connection with the ongoing project on 18th St NW. Extra valves are also being
installed so that in the future, more restrictive shutoffs can be performed in
support of construction work.
The blocks that will be affected will be:
1) the east side of the 2400 and 2300 blocks of 18th Street also 2233 18th
Street, NW.
2) Columbia Road between 18th Street & Ontario Rd. NW from 1742 Columbia
Road to 1796 Columbia Road, NW.
They anticipate the water shut down to last for approximately 6 hours. All
affected will receive notification of the exact amount of time prior to the test
down being performed.
Once the shut has been deemed successful the water main will be recharged
immediately after. The outage will cover both sides of Columbia between 18th and
Ontario.
