Adams Morgan Movie Nights wraps up on Tuesday with the rescheduled showing of E.T.

Celebrate the friendliest alien ever at our showing of E.T. this coming Tuesday, June 25 (rescheduled from June 18) . Several restaurants on the surrounding blocks will be offering special “Brown Bag Movie Meals” packaged to go that attendees can bring to the field; check the website for details. Once again, if clouds allow, telescopes will be available for stargazing due to our collaboration with the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum .

Movies are shown shortly after sunset at the Marie Reed Recreation Center at 18th and California Streets, NW. Bring your chairs, kids, and neighbors for a fun evening out. Dogs and alcohol are not allowed on the field. We will have free cookies from Insomnia Cookies for the first 200 guests.

As Washington DC’s longest running neighborhood festival, Adams Morgan Day celebrated 40 years in 2018 and the planning has begun for the 41st in 2019! Adams Morgan Day is a family-friendly celebration with music, art, and activities for all ages. Attendance and entertainment are free, and local businesses and restaurants offer great deals for visitors and residents to enjoy.

Construction at Columbia Rd. and Adams Mill Rd.

Verizon is upgrading their infrastructure near the intersection of Adams Mill Road and Columbia Road. Over the course of the next few weeks, there will be single lane closures on both streets adjacent to the intersection. Construction should be limited to 10am - 4pm and is expected to take approximately 10 work days, though there is always potential for delays.

Small Business Commercial Corridor Survey

The Coalition for Nonprofit Housing and Economic Development (CNHED) and the DC BID Council are conducting an online survey to develop a better understanding of the key issues, needs and concerns impacting the business corridors in the District. The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. The survey will close on Tuesday, July 9, 2019.

Wondering what you can recycle in the District?

With 5 categories of recyclable materials, recycling in the District has never been easier.

Plastic : items like laundry detergent bottles, yogurt containers and water bottles (caps can stay on!).
Paper : items like newspapers, junk mail, and phone books.
Cardboard : items like shipping boxes, egg cartons, and pizza boxes.
Metals : items like soup cans, aluminum foil, and soda cans.
Glass : items like wine bottles and pickle jars.

Remember to place items clean and empty in your curbside bin. No plastic bags please, including trash bags. Still not sure your items is recyclable? Skip the guesswork with the What Goes Where web app. Type in almost any item they can think of, and we'll tell you how that item should be properly disposed of, recycled, reused or composted in the District.

Adams Morgan Farmers Market on Saturday

Adams Morgan is home to the longest-running farmers market in the city! Visit Licking Creek Bend Farm and other vendors 8 am to 1 pm, rain or shine, at SunTrust Plaza, 18th Street and Columbia Road NW. Bring your bags and get your pluots, pears, arugula, spinach, tomatoes and more every Saturday.

Reminder: DC Minimum Wage increases to $14 on July 1

Beginning July 1, 2019, the minimum wage in the District of Columbia will increase from $13.25 per hour to $14.00 per hour for all workers, regardless of size of employer. Mayor Muriel Bowser signed the Fair Shot Minimum Wage Amendment Act of 2016 into law on June 27, 2016, after unanimous passage by the D.C. Council. The law also includes provisions to further increase the minimum wage in subsequent years. Click here for more info.

ABRA's ID Compliance Training

The Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA) provides annual ID Compliance Training for ABC licensees and their staff. Training reviews:

Preventing sales of alcoholic beverages to minors and intoxicated persons
Techniques for properly verifying IDs
Tips for spotting fake IDs
Information on ABRA compliance checks

The Busch School of Business at Catholic University will once again be the exclusive local host of the Inner City Capital Connections (ICCC) Program which offers "a tuition-free executive leadership training program designed by the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC) to help business owners in economically-distressed areas build capacity for sustainable growth in revenue, profitability, and employment." This year, the ICCC program will take place in 14 different cities across the nation and will culminate in the ICCC National Conference in Boston in November.
