R eminder: AMPBID will install FREE flood lights on timers on the front of your business

The  Adams Morgan Partnership BID (AMPBID) will install FREE flood lights on timers on the front of your business.  The idea is for businesses to turn on the flood lights at closing each night to flood the streets of Adams Morgan with light. The hope is that the bright lights will detour crime and make our streets safer.

The flood lights will be installed by a licensed and bonded electrician.  If you are interested in a FREE flood light, please contact Kristen at kbarden@adamsmorganonline.org or call 202-997-0783.

If you haven't already, please let us know by Wednesday April 4th if you would like a flood light installed on the front of your building. We want to get a complete list to give to the electricians so they can get started. Thanks!

Welcome to Adams Morgan - Pleasant Pops!

We learned last week that Pleasant Pops www.pleasantpops.com will be the new tenant in the former Rita's Frozen Custard location at 1781 Florida Avenue, NW - around the corner from Mint Fitness. They hope to open around July 1.

The Pleasant Pops story is a local one and one worth sharing:

Pleasant Pops was born in 2009, because they really liked traditional Mexican ice pops called paletas and couldn’t find any in Washington, D.C. The two owners met freshman year of college when they both joined the crew team at UNC-Chapel Hill and instantly became friends because they both shared a passion for the outdoors and for sustainability.

When they created Pleasant Pops they wanted to combine the Mexican tradition of fresh fruit ice pops with local and sustainable agriculture from the greater D.C. area.

The result? After experimenting with flavors in the kitchen for a year, Pleasant Pops sold their first pop in July 2010 and they now have over 40 flavors of Mexican inspired paletas, all of which are original recipes made from locally sourced fresh fruit, veggies, herbs, and dairy. You can find Pleasant Pops at D.C. farmers’ markets and on their truck “Big Poppa.”

They buy their ingredients from local farmers, which supports community farmers’ markets, local farmers and their staff, and the D.C. economy.

They are members of Think Local First DC , and they support fellow local businesses as much as possible.

The opening, slated for July 1, comes at the height of peach season so you'll be able to pick up the peaches themselves, and other produce used in the popsicles, in a small market section of the shop. You'll also be able to pick up local milk, eggs, cheeses, crackers, jams, and jellies. There will also be a lineup of vegetarian and vegan sandwiches such as hummus-veggie and caprese, salads, coffee, spicy Mexican hot chocolate, and free wifi--all of which can be enjoyed at two communal tables.

Circulator Bus Promotion-increase foot traffic to your business!

We are working with DDOT and the Circulator Bus to increase ridership on the bus, get people out of their cars and onto the bus and increase foot traffic into your business.

Sooo we are going to place flyers on cars on weekend evenings that tell people if they bring to flyer into your business you will give them a FREE Ride coupon to ride the bus - one per person. The bus fare is $1. Please keep the flyers and we'll recycle them and repeat it each weekend until the 1000 FREE Ride coupons we got from Circulator are gone.

If you would like to participate in this promotion, please let Kristen know by

Tuesday April 3 by emailing her at kbarden@adamsmorganonline.org or calling 202-997-0783. We'll include your business' name on the flyer as a location where they can get the FREE Ride coupons and we'll deliver to you a stack of the coupons along with a copy of the flyer so you know what it looks like. We'll also bring you Circulator Maps so you can let customers know where the bus will take them.

We hope at least 10 businesses will want to participate.

Pepco outage planned for Monday night - April 2 and possibly April 3rd - 2300 block of 18th Street east side

We were informed this week that the remaining man hole work at 18th and Kalorama has finally been scheduled for Monday April 2nd from 10:30 pm to 6 am Tuesday April 3d.

The manhole on the SE corner of Kalorama/18th Street was lowered and poured earlier this week. The manhole just south of the above has already been lowered and completed. The one in front of Himalayan Heritage (in the sidewalk) everything has been completed in preparation for Pepco underground to lower the duct banks late Monday night and Tues night (if necessary). This will involve power interruption on the east side in the 2300 and possibly the 2400 blocks of 18th Street. Businesses should have received notices from Pepco this week.

All road base work and sidewalk work on the east side of 18th Street, except for this 100 ft section, has been completed. This work on Monday night will finally allow the completion of this section.

Questions should be directed to the 18th Street Streetscape Engineer: Victor Egu at victor.edu@dc.gov or www.adamsmorganstreetscapeproject.com

FY2013 Property Tax Assessment Appeals are due April 2

District Property Owners Have until April 2 to Appeal 2013 Assessments

The Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR) reminds property owners who believe that their proposed 2013 assessment does not reflect the market value of their property to file an appeal on or before the April 2 deadline.

The appeal process allows property owners to dispute the real property assessment determined by OTR's Real Property Assessment Administration. This year, the appeals form has been revised to allow property owners to estimate the value of their property. Providing this information is not mandatory but may be helpful in resolving appeals.

For additional assistance taxpayers are invited to call (202) 727-4TAX (4829) or visit OTR's Customer Service Walk-in Center, located on the 1101 4th Street, SW, Suite W270, between the hours of 8:15 am and 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
