To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, Adams Morgan Movie Nights is featuring a series space-themed films in collaboration with the
Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum
.
The series kicked off this week with
Armageddon
, accompanied by a panel from the Air and Space museum who discussed the science (and fiction) behind the film.
Remaining Schedule:

Movies are shown at dark at the Marie Reed Recreation Center at 18th and California Streets, NW. Bring your chairs, kids, and neighbors for a fun evening out.

Spacycloud Lounge Presents "algo-raves, Tidalcycles And Livecoding"
|
sPACYcLOUd Lounge
is hosting a music livecoding workshop on June 2 for D.C.-area residents who are new to coding — and even new to music performance.
The workshop will instruct budding musicians on TidalCycles, a program used to turn lines of code into repeating patterns of music allowing for randomness, audio effects (e.g. delay, distortion, reverb), granular synthesis and imagination to sculpt rhythmic patterns without ever losing the beat. Unlike pre-composed, recorded electronic beats, livecoded music is created in real-time, allowing the artist to improvise freely and often, just by tweaking algorithms.

AMPBID Full Membership Meeting Results
|
Adams Morgan Partnership Business Improvement District (AMPBID) held a Special All Member Meeting on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 and voted on changes to the bylaws and reducing the tax rate from $.21 to $.19 per $100 of the total assessed value for all non-exempt commercial properties in the BID boundaries.
Both measures passed. We subsequently transmitted the result of the tax reduction vote to the
Department of Small and Local Business Development
(DSLBD) who acts as the mayor's agent. We're currently waiting for Mayor Bowser's order approving the change. There is legislation currently moving through city council that will allow the tax rate change to happen. All of those steps must be completed by July so that the new rate will be reflected in commercial property tax bills scheduled to be mailed out in August.

DSLBD Accepting Applications for
Robust Retail: Citywide Grants
of up to $10,000 per Business
|
A robust retail sector is critical to maintaining the vibrancy of DC neighborhoods, but market realities are changing for retail businesses. Thus the Robust Retail grant(s) support existing DC-based retail businesses adapting their business model to meet changing customer demand. DSLBD encourages but does not require applicants to include Made in DC products as part of their concept for business model redesign.
DSLBD intends to award up to $10,000 per business for a total of 40 businesses from the $400,000 in available funding for spring/summer 2019. Applications are accepted through June 15. Funds must be fully expended with appropriate receipts and accounting by September 30, 2019.
