Reminder: AMPBID Board meeting September 12
The next Adams Morgan Partnership BID (AMPBID) Board of Directors' meeting will be Tuesday, September 12 at 5 PM at the Festival Center at 1640 Columbia Road, NW.  Hope you can join us!
Tuesday will be the final board meeting for Co-President Steve Greenleigh. Steve has helped lead the board of AMPBID since it was founded in 2005 and will deliver some remarks reflecting on the positive changes in the neighborhood during his tenure. Steve's leadership will be missed, but he is planning on remaining active in the community.
Board members should call or email Kristen at 202-997-0783 or kbarden@adamsmorganonline.org if you are unable to attend, otherwise we will assume you are attending. Thanks. The meeting agenda will be sent out to board members before the meeting.

AMPBID Annual Meeting Election Process

At the October 10th Annual Meeting, BID members will have the opportunity to vote for candidates for 5 board slots: three property owners and two business owners.

Seats on the AMPBID board currently occupied by the following five members are up for election:

AMPBID Annual Meeting Election Process

Each person eligible for election as a member of the Board may be nominated by: 1) the nominating committee, or 2) by a member petition submitted to any member of the Nominating Committee at least 30 days prior to the date of the meeting (so additional nominations must be received by September 11th); provided that only business owners can nominate business owners and property owners can only nominate property owners and a petition shall require the signature of no less than ten (10) members to nominate a member of the Board. Each nominee either shall be present at the annual meeting or shall consent to such nomination by a written document.

Voting

Per the by-laws, any properties for which BID taxes are over 60 days delinquent, may not vote nor may they nominate members to the board.

For each class of member, the ballot will list all the candidate names, and members will vote for the number of open slots in that category. For example, there are two business owner slots. All members will have the opportunity to vote for two candidates from the list of all business owner candidates.

Proxies

Proxy votes are allowed.

Pursuant to the BID bylaws, those interested in voting in the board elections by proxy can either contact the BID to request a proxy form, or can develop their own form, as long as it includes: the date of the meeting at which it is applicable (October 10) full names, addresses and the dated signatures of both the individual issuing the proxy and the witness(es) to the signature. The proxy voter can be anyone to whom the property or business owner designates to vote for them and DOES NOT have to be a member of the Adams Morgan Partnership BID. All proxy forms must meet all these criteria to be accepted.

The BID will have a proxy form available by mail and by email, or they can be picked up at the AMPBID office at 1640 Columbia Rd., NW by appointment.

Kids and families will draw what they love about Adams Morgan with art supplies, on a wall covered with butcher paper.

"Adams Morgan Scavenger Hunt"
Kids will take selfies at a list of locations in the Adams Morgan Neighborhood and receive a prize for successful completion of the scavenger hunt.

  • Hear Mayor Bowser speak at the Columbia Rd Stage (at 18th Street & Columbia Rd.) at 12:55 p.m.
  • Life-size Jenga, Connect 4 and Corn Hole in the kids’ area, sponsored by the Fund for Kalorama in the parking garage alley next to Little Shop of Flowers.
  • Check out the new playground at Marie Reed and learn about their renovation. Staff and PTA members will answer questions from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Live interactive arts in Artists’ Alley, organized by Josue Martinez of Corinto Gallery, in the alley behind SunTrust Plaza.

Adams Morgan Day 2017 is being organized by the Adams Morgan Community Alliance. The neighborhood festival is made possible by hundreds of volunteer hours, in-kind services and funds provided by committed Adams Morgan residents and businesses, individual donors and sponsors. Apple Festival and Pie Contest set for October 28

Join us at the Adams Morgan Farmers Market on October 28th from 10:30am - 1:00pm in SunTrust Plaza at the corner of 18th St. and Columbia Rd. for our annual Apple Festival featuring the ever-popular pie contest.

Benefits from the sale of apple pie slices will benefit Joseph's House .

We will have more details about judges and how to enter as we get closer to the date. Also this year, we will be adding a pumpkin carving station. Buy your pumpkin at the market and carve it on site -- we'll be sure all the pumpkin innards are composted instead of ending up in your trash.

Volunteer at PorchFest

From Cultural Tourism DC:

As a partner of Adams Morgan Partnership BID, Cultural Tourism DC is excited to work with the volunteers for this annual event. If you're interested in volunteering for an afternoon of neighborhood fun at the 5th Annual Adams Morgan PorchFest, we would love to have your help!

Adams Morgan PorchFest is a terrific opportunity to hear great music while meeting new people and supporting local businesses. The event features at least 12 porches/patios as performance space for local musicians. As a PorchFest volunteer, you will greet guests at a performance location, acknowledge program sponsors, introduce the performers, and count the number of people enjoying the music. Volunteers also may be asked to help staff set-up and break-down the PorchFest Information Hub and place signs throughout the neighborhood.

There are two volunteer shifts -- 1:30 pm to 4:15 pm and 3:30 pm to 7:15 pm. You may volunteer for one shift or both shifts by clicking here .

Volunteers must attend an orientation, the date of which will be sent to you shortly after you sign-up and select your shift(s).

Discounted bar & restuarant training for Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Collective Action for Safe Spaces (CASS) is inviting Adams Morgan bars and restaurants to participate in their public training at a discount next month in recognition of October being Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM).

CASS is asking each business to send up to two managers to the training, and in exchange they'll receive certification through the Safe Bar Collective, which includes: a decal to display in the establishment's window (pictured), safety messages on posters and coasters, and inclusion on CASS's happy hour pledge list where community groups pledge to host their events only at certified venues within the Safe Bar Collective, bringing revenue back to the bars that invest in safety and equity.

The training will be significantly discounted in October at $150 per bar trained, which includes admission for 2 managers. The standard cost is $500 per bar.

CASS also has a sub-program that connects trans people of color with restaurant job skills training and then safe, supportive employment in their partner bars for bars or restaurants that might be in need of new employees.

Cultural Tourism DC has a need for 30 volunteers for our annual free September WalkingTown DC tour event, especially during the weekends. The critical dates are: Sunday, September 17, and Saturday, September 23. Some of the planned tours will go through Adams Morgan.

Car Free Day is a free international event celebrated every September 22 in which people are encouraged to get around without driving alone in cars and instead ride a train, bus, bicycle, carpool, vanpool, subway, or walk. ABRA Books and Records training

The Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA) invites hotel and restaurant licensees and their staff to attend Books and Records Training on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017. Training will cover:

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has kicked-off a series of public events for the Design Phase of the 16th Street NW Bus Lanes Project. The purpose of the project is to improve bus service and reliability on the 16th Street NW corridor. At the events, DDOT will provide an overview of the project, present roadway layouts, and gather public feedback.


The public has three opportunities to give input on this phase of the project: a public meeting, an on-site engagement event at two locations, and an online open house. All events will cover the same material and provide an opportunity for public feedback. The public meeting will be open-house style with an opportunity for participants to listen to a presentation, review the roadway layouts, and provide feedback. The engagement events will be held at two high ridership bus stops: 16th and Irving Street NW and 16th and U Street NW. The online open house will include a narrated presentation and meeting materials posted to the website as well as a survey to fill out and submit your comments.

In April 2016, DDOT released the 16th Street NW Transit Priority Planning Study, which resulted in a set of recommendations to be advanced to the design phase. The recommendations included peak-hour, peak direction bus lanes, bus service changes, bus stop improvements, and transit priority infrastructure. The design phase of the 16th Street NW Bus Lanes Project will use this set of recommendations to begin environmental documentation and develop preliminary engineering designs.
