Reminder for Businesses: Be vigilant
|
Active shooters, storms, protest marches, diplomatic events, indictments... in DC you have to expect the unexpected.
As a business owner you should have plans in place and shared with your staff in case something unexpected happens. You can't plan for every eventuality but you should ensure your staff have emergency contact numbers and are prepared in the event of a crisis.
And don't forget the "See Something, Say Something" rule.

AdMo Vibe concerts continue in Kalorama Park next week with Emma G
|
AdMo Vibe
is the ultimate setting for a family night out, date night, relaxing evening in the park, or solo adventure. The bands will be playing various genres of music including folk, pop, classical, rock, jazz, and more. Concert goers can picnic with takeout from a local restaurant, enjoy good vibes with neighbors and friends, and visit an array of shops and boutiques just steps away before or after the performances.
This year's remaining schedule, concerts are 6pm-7:30pm at Kalorama Park:
On August 23 we’ll be joined by Because Science with a free science + music themed activity during the event.
Attention Adams Morgan restaurants:
We will be encouraging attendees to order takeout food and bring it to the performance much like we do with Adams Morgan Movie Nights. If you are interested in offering a "Picnic in the Park" special and/or would like more information, please contact Brian Barrie via

Be on Lookout for Fake Delivery Drivers
Individuals posing as drivers for delivery services have been stealing meals from busy restaurants.

What’s Happening
: Fake drivers ask to use the bathroom, then read names stapled to waiting delivery bags on counters. When these individuals return to the front of the restaurant, they tell staff they’re there to pick up one or more meals.

What Else to Know
: Even when busy, operators and their teams should confirm drivers are legitimate before handing out orders.
Next Anti-Harassment Training Tuesday
Register today
for our next DC anti-sexual harassment training for restaurant and bar employees, owners, operators, and managers. Registration is $35 per person and space is limited.

: Training must be completed by August 31.

Recap
: As part of the 2018 Tipped Wage Workers Fairness Amendment Act, operators with tipped employees must complete the training every two years. Trainers must be certified by the DC Office of Human Rights.

The DC Mayor’s Office of Deaf, Deafblind, and Hard of Hearing is encouraging all businesses to turn on their TV’s closed captioning services to ensure accessibility for all guests.

Reminder: Register by August 11 for Extended Labor Day Hours
Businesses enrolled in the Extended Holiday Hours Program may sell, serve, and allow on-premises consumption of alcohol until 4 am and operate 24 hours.

There is no fee to participate in the Extended Holiday Hours Program

Amended Tax Returns for ERTC? Check for Interest and Fees
Are you an operator who amended their 2020 or 2021 tax returns after receiving Employee Retention Tax Credits (ERTC)? Ask your local tax and revenue office if any interest or fees were assessed.

Details: While the IRS waives these penalties, many local jurisdictions do not. Most operators are unaware they’ve been fined until they need a Clean Hands Certificate.

The DC attorney general’s office anticipates releasing further guidance about disclosing service fees before the end of summer.

2023 World Culture Festival: Programming Update
|
184,513 registered attendees to date, >15,000 artists, entertainers & speakers join Festival lineup for an Olympic-scale celebration of Peace
The Art of Living Foundation
announced a number of thrilling updates related to the
2023 World Culture Festival
. Taking over the National Mall
Friday, September 29 through Sunday, October 1
, the unforgettable three-day celebration is expected to be the largest gathering in the nation’s capital this year, featuring the largest stage area ever built on the historic National Park property.
Over 250,000 visitors
from every corner of the globe are expected to travel to Washington, D.C. to be a part of the World Culture Festival. Today, organizers already report 184,513 registered attendees who will join in-person along with an estimated broadcast audience of over one billion worldwide. Registrants to date represent:

60% from the capital region
-
91% from the United States representing all 50 states
-
4% from India
-
5% from 121 other countries, including Canada, United Kingdom, Argentina, United Arab Emirates, Australia, Thailand and South Africa.

💸 Commercial Property Acquisition Fund (DMPED)
The Commercial Property Acquisition Fund will provide eligible businesses with down payment assistance of up to $750,000 or 25% of the sale price, whichever is less, for the acquisition of commercial property in the District. This year, businesses will need to complete three mandatory sessions in order to apply for the Fund. OPEN now on a rolling basis until funds are expended.
