DC Arts Center Experience Auction: Tonight! (May 18)

You are cordially invited to participate in the one and only live auction of artistic experiences to be held in Washington! Support DC’s most alternative and cutting edge arts organization not by buying art, but by experiencing it. This event brings together 200 collectors, entrepreneurs, and professionals to bid on a series of one-of-a-kind experiences, created for the occasion by some of DC’s most talented tastemakers and creative types.

The Experience Auction provides a unique opportunity for participants to bid on art experiences rather than static works of art. Musicians, filmmakers, artists, actors, chefs, and a host of other donors have created an array of original and unique creative experiences.

Interested in touring behind the scenes at one of Washington’s best known theaters? What about bringing home an award-winning vocalist to entertain your friends? How about collaborating on new artwork with a team of guerrilla painters? All these experiences and more will be available at this exciting event.

Bike To Work Day (BTWD) tomorrow! (Friday)

Due to a schedule change in construction at Unity Park, we are relocating the Adams Morgan BTWD Pit Stop to BB&T Bank Plaza at the corner of 18th St. & Columbia Rd.

Registration is still open, but it's too late to be guaranteed a free t-shirt for registering. However, you can still show up and enter our raffle to win great gear provided by BicycleSPACE , City Bikes , and Grip Unlimited Bags .

AMPBID will host a pit stop at BB&T Bank Plaza (in front of BB&T Bank at the corner of 18th St. & Columbia Rd.) from 7:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.

We will be partnering with City Bikes , BicycleSPACE , and Tryst again this year as well as The LINE Hotel .

We will also be raffling some great bicycle-themed prizes and will have coffee and snacks to help get your day started.

Summer Concert Series continues Saturday!

It's getting to be that time of year and AMPBID is hosting our Summer Concert Series again continuing on Saturday with Hollertown. The concerts will take place on Saturday afternoons through May and June in front of BB&T Bank at the corner of Columbia Rd. and 18th St., NW. There will be a special show on Monday evening, June 5 that will start at 6pm, but otherwise, all shows will go from 5 - 7pm.

Adams Morgan Movie Nights continues on 5/23 with Grease

**New Location for 2017: Walter Pierce Park Soccer Field**

Adams Morgan Movie Nights returns this year with an eclectic lineup of movies and plenty of fun for the whole family. Due to construction at Marie Reed School, we've been forced to temporarily relocate the film series to Walter Pierce Park this year, but we'll return to Marie Reed for 2018. Walter Pierce Park is located at 2630 Adams Mill Rd. with an alternate entrance adjacent to Mama Ayesha’s near the foot of the Duke Ellington Bridge on Calvert Street.

We will be giving away free cookies again this week, and we've arranged for a larger allotment from our friends at Insomnia Cookies to help keep up with demand. We're going to start distributing the cookies at 7:30 at the double-gate on the west end of the field (closest to Rock Creek). If you want a cookie, you must enter through that gate. Also, anyone arriving while the preceding soccer game is still going on should use that gate to minimize any disruptions to their game.

Movies start approximately 30 minutes after sunset. Kids are welcome, but no alcohol or pets please.

  • 10:00am workshop on GROWING PESTICIDE-FREE CHRISTMAS TREES, please RSVP to esiegel2@igc.org. We'll start right at 10:00am.
  • 11:00am , we'll focus on how we grow our FRUIT TREES without chemical pesticides (using edge-of-forest/carbon sequestration approach).
  • 11:30am , we'll discuss ORGANIC NO-TILL VEGETABLE GROWING METHODS AND MACHINERY, along with our first year results.
  • 12:00noon , we'll TOUR OUR FIELDS, MACHINERY and discuss CARBON SEQUSTRATION TECHNIQUES AND HEAVY COVER CROPPING, including the elimination of PVC plastic (over 1 ton two years ago!).
  • 1:00pm we'll have enjoy a POT LUCK lunch and meet each other. Bring a veggie dish to share, your own reusable dishes, cups & silverware.
  • 2:00pm , you can walk around the farm, swim in the creek and generally enjoy the day in the country.

Adams Morgan Workout
Local fitness trainer Graham King and his company Urban Athletic Club join The LINE Hotel to offer a wellness program for locals and travelers alike.
Starting May 20th, King invites the Adams Morgan community to join a free weekly workout. Run to Rock Creek Park’s Par Course for a challenging 17-station bodyweight workout. It’s a 10-minute run to the Par Course. The workout lasts approximately 40 minutes with a 15-20-minute run back.
Meet Graham King and The LINE Hotel team at the Adams Morgan Community Board on the corner of 18th and Columbia Rd, NW for the 9am workout.

Unity Park renovations

Unity Park is currently closed for renovation and will reopen June 30th with new features to better serve the Adams Morgan Community. These improvements include better lighting, more seating and new pavement.

The plans for Unity Park resulted from multiple collaborative design discussions with ANC1C, the AMPBID, and interested Adams Morgan neighbors.

Kalorama Park Community Day 2017!

The 2nd Annual Kalorama Park Community Day celebration is coming up on Saturday, June 3 from 11:00 am – 3:30 pm! The Fund for Kalorama Park is aiming to build on the success of last year’s event, this year with even more fun activities, entertainers, and local businesses and organizations. Fund for Kalorama Park Fundraiser

The Fund for Kalorama Park, a 501(c)(3), is launching a fundraiser to be able to continue and enhance care for this amazing space and community hub. They are seeking to raise at least $18,000 for 2017 to be used for:

  • A wood sculpture to be carved from the stumps of the two beautiful oak trees that were lost in the center of the park
  • Ongoing park maintenance (bench upkeep, pavement repairs, improved fencing)
  • Improved landscaping (mulching, edging, cleaning, new plants, lawn care)

Reminder: Minimum Wage Increases in DC as of July 1

As of July 1, 2017, the minimum wage in the District of Columbia will increase to the following:

  • Non-tipped employees:   $12.50
  • Tipped employees:   $3.33

DC Rat Riddance Rodent Academy

Rodent control expert, Dr. Robert Corrigan will host the Department of Health’s upcoming Rat Riddance Rodent Academy. The academy is designed to teach the importance of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) as the foundation for a successful municipal rodent plan. The program also emphasizes the importance of a collaborative approach among local and federal government, public and private stakeholders and community members to work together to reduce rodent activity in the District.
