New Mayor's Order Regarding Retail Food Sellers & Farmers' Markets
|
In an effort to DC's food supply chain and the city's frontline food workers, yesterday Mayor Bowser issued
Mayor’s Order 2020-058
. The Order states that no farmers’ market may operate unless issued a waiver. To obtain a waiver, a market manager must submit a plan to the District government at
dcfoodpolicy@dc.gov
to outline how they will operate and enforce social distancing protocols, and that plan must be approved.
The Order’s safety and social distance protocols apply to “Retail Food Sellers,” which include grocery stores, supermarkets, food halls, food banks, convenience stores, and other establishments engaged in the retail sale of food.
The Order also includes several amendments to previous Orders, including removing tennis and golf as allowable recreational activities and clarifying that community gardens are open to the public.

REMINDER: The 2020 CSA Season is approaching with Licking Creek Bend Farm
|
From our friends at
Licking Creek Bend Farm
:
We'll send out a few more reminders before the April 30 Early Bird deadline. With the coronavirus looming over all of us, more people are looking to their local farmers and CSAs to get produce from farmers they know and trust. All of us are working on ways to get our produce to you in the safest way possible. It also means that more folks are signing up for CSA and we've heard that several are already filled up and will not be able to accommodate their waiting lists. We will do our best to accommodate everyone who wants to sign up as we've never turned away anyone in the more than 30 years of our CSA. But we urge you to sign up as soon as you can because even we are not limitless in our capacity.
We are excited to offer BREAD FROM RAVENHOOK BAKEHOUSE for a separate price. We'll have weekly sign up forms. See below for more details.
We're raising money for a new program subsidize CSA memberships for first responders and essential service provider families whose breadwinners have been diagnosed with the coronavirus. We're looking to identify families and raise money for the project. Several families have already been identified and our customers and friends have started pitching into the fund (we're asking for a minimum of $7). A few potential donors have also come forward. With your help, we can identify families and raise enough money to support between 25-50 families for the duration of the families' needs.

Buy War Bonds
campaigns of WWI and WWII -- to help draw attention to our 100+ restaurants and employees that are facing an uncertain future. Please join in via your own social media accounts using the hashtag
#BuyRestaurantBonds
Please tag us in your social media posts about the operating status of your business so we can pass the information along.
