Daylight Savings Time is on November 5
From the Metropolitan Police Department:
Restaurants, taverns, hotels, and other on-premises establishments will have an extra hour to operate as a result of Daylight Saving Time.
Clocks will fall back one hour from 2 am to 1 am on the morning of Sunday, Nov. 5, creating an extra hour in the day. Establishments that normally operate at 2 am will automatically gain an additional hour to conduct business. Establishments will be required to stop all sales and service of alcoholic beverages by 3 am unless the establishment's license states otherwise. No registration is required to participate.
Licensees that have questions can contact the Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration by emailing or by calling (202) 442-4423.

Traveling Smarter for Business
Since June, the District has been allowing DC government employees who need to travel locally for business to hail cabs using the DC Taxi app. There are more than 700 employees and 100 cab drivers now piloting this program.
The success of this initiative got us thinking; how can we all, not just DC employees, travel smarter to and from meetings?
Instead of using a personal vehicle, consider one of the options below to get around town:
-
Zipcar
: Reserve a car by the hour or the day.
-
Capital Bikeshare
: Metro DC's bikeshare system. With more than 3,700 bikes available at 440 stations you can start at one station and dock at another station near your final destination!
-
MetroRail
: Catch up on your book or get prepared for your meeting while you enjoy a quick and easy ride.
-
MetroBus
: With more than 11,500 bus stops in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia you are sure to get where you need to go!
-
Walk
: Get some exercise and walk to your meeting.
-
Carpool
: Enjoy the ride with other colleagues going to the same meeting.

Most DC employees are well aware of their medical and dental benefits, but too often employees are not even aware their company offers pre-taxed commuter benefits! Enrolling in a Transit Commuter Benefits Account can save you up to 40 percent on commuting expenses − including Metro trains and buses, commuter trains, ride-sharing and more.
Did you know that the DC Commuter Benefits Law requires employers with 20 or more employees in Washington, DC to offer Commuter Benefits in at least one of three ways?
-
A pre-tax transit fringe benefit.
-
An employer-paid program in which the employer supplies a transit pass or covered reimbursement of vanpool or bicycling costs.
-
Employer-provided transportation at no cost to the covered employee in a vanpool or bus operated by or for the employer.
Signing up is easy. Contact your HR representative and ask which commuter benefits are available for employees.
