VIC THE VIRUS: Protect Yourself by Knowing Your Enemy

A clear and simple visual story on how COVID-19 spreads and kills -- and how we will beat it. In the spirit of Sun-Tzu's "Know your enemy," we chose to tell the story from the point of view of the virus.

Written by a bestselling author, a disease scientist PhD, and an award-winning cartoonist, this story gives a renewed sense of perspective. Writing this helped us see what to do next, and even gave us a bit of needed calm.

Please Complete the 2020 Census

Now more than ever, it's important for you and all of your employees to fill out the 2020 Census , which is available online (it can also be completed over the phone, or mailed in). It takes less than 5 minutes, and determines - among other things - how federal funding gets spent over the next 10 years. Among the 33 largest cities in the U.S., DC had the second-highest undercount rate in the 2010 Census, making it even more imperative to get a more accurate count this year. Click here to complete the form. If you don't have your 12-digit Census ID, you can enter your home address instead.

National Small Business Virtual Town Hall

The federal government has acted, and $350 billion in loans are now available to help small businesses impacted by the coronavirus. Businesses now are challenged to understand the lending process, and then act to take advantage of this emergency aid.

This Friday, April 3 at noon ET, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Inc. will team up once again for a virtual National Small Business Town Hall to help small businesses navigate the process of accessing the new loans available to them. Inc. Editor-At-Large Kimberly Weisul will moderate a fireside chat with the U.S. Chamber’s Executive Vice President and Chief Policy Officer Neil Bradley to discuss the latest guidance from the federal government on the CARES Act, as well as the path to recovery for the economy as a whole.

They’ll be joined by a panel of business experts to answer your questions on how businesses can tap into these new resources, share different ways to incorporate these loans into a broader business plan, and offer counsel on how and when entrepreneurs can begin to think about recovery.

RSVP : Click here to register for this Friday's event.

Date : Friday, April 3

Time : 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM EST

Where : Virtually on Microsoft Teams Live Events, details will be sent in your confirmation email.

Space is limited and advance registration is required. Please RSVP at the link above by tomorrow morning to ensure your participation.

ABRA Update: Deadline Extensions, Service Modification

ABRA remains operational during the coronavirus (COVID-19) public health emergency; however, its physical office is closed to the public through Friday, April 24. I want to reassure our customers, community representatives, residents, and partners that the entire ABRA team remains committed and available to answer your questions and deliver key services, albeit remotely, during this period.

You may continue to call our main phone number, send us emails, and submit applications and payments by postal mail. Complaints about ABC-licensed establishments can also continue to be submitted by phone, email, or online .

We also understand that in a time of rapid change, announcements of key deadline extensions and service modifications may have gone overlooked. They include:

  • Annual License Payments | Extended from March 31 to June 1.
  • Alcohol License Expirations | Licenses that expire March 16 – May 31 are now valid through June 1.
  • Fines | Fines due between March 16 – May 31 are now due June 1.
  • Q1 Statements | Extended from April 30 to June 1.
  • Protest Petition Deadlines | All protest deadlines scheduled for March 23 – May 4 have been extended. The new Protest Petition Deadline and Roll Call Hearing dates for all five (5) affected filing dates during this period are now Monday, June 1, and Monday, June 15, at 10:00 a.m. respectively. Establishments will not be re-placarded with the updated deadline.
  • Protest Status Hearings and Protest Hearings | Hearings scheduled through April 22 have been postponed. New dates and times will be announced at a later date.
  • Notice of Public Hearings | ABRA continues to accept and process new applications. However, the placarding of a new establishment has been suspended. When placarding does resume, the 45-day protest petition period will also resume.

Additionally, under current law, a licensee that ceases operations or closes it premises for 21 or more days is required to place their ABC license in safekeeping. The ABC Board has delayed the tolling of the 21-day period until the Public Health Emergency has ended.
