Adams Morgan Eats in the Streets
!
|
Adams Morgan celebrates its diverse culinary scene at
Adams Morgan Eats in the Streets
on Saturday, July 29 from 1pm-8pm! The outdoor event will take place during the launch of the 2023 Adams Morgan Pedestrian Zone between the 2400-2300 blocks of 18th Street NW. Eats in the Streets will showcase approximately 50 neighborhood restaurants and retailers in streatery spaces along the road closure. Attendees can sample cuisines from across the globe, purchase meals to go, enjoy free entertainment, and wander through an open street closed to vehicular traffic. Participating restaurants will be offering dozens of all-day discounts, a “crowd favorite” menu item for $10 or less, and other fun surprises. Neighborhood retailers will also be onsite selling merchandise, giving out free samples, swag, and more.
Picnic tables will be available for attendees to eat at, enjoy live musical performances throughout the day, and gather with neighbors. Free fitness classes, face painting, a Foamboree for kids, balloon twisting, a chalk art muralist, and other fun activities will be available to event patrons – a schedule can be found online prior to the event. A DC Water misting station and water bottle refill station will be available for the public’s enjoyment and to cool down.
There will be no outside vendors at this event
-- it is strictly for the benefit of Adams Morgan businesses and we will have tents set up to allow businesses from other parts of the neighborhood to participate in the closure zone.

C.O.R.E. TRAINING - SUMMER 2023
Construction Orientation Readiness Education

McCullough Construction, LLC/ Irving Development, LLC along with the Developer, MRP Realty, and partners CSG and Taylor Adams Associates, as well as in cooperation with DC DOES and the Perry School Community Service Center will begin the tenth installment of the ABC C.O.R.E. Training program. Candidates who successfully complete the class will position themselves to secure construction jobs in Washington, DC Metropolitan Area.
COURSE WORK:
C.O.R.E. is a prerequisite for all trade/apprenticeship classesand is designed to provide students with basic knowledgeand skills required in the construction trades.
SCHEDULE:
August 1st - October 5th on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 3pm-7pm for a total of 10 weeks.
LOCATION:
128 M St NW # 100, Washington, DC (The Perry School)
COST:
Tuition is paid for by the developer.

Racial Equity Capital Fund
|
Exelon launched a Racial Equity Capital Fund (RECF), in partnership with the Exelon Foundation, to expand access to capital to minority businesses so they can create more jobs, grow their companies, and reinvest in their neighborhoods and communities. The fund builds on Exelon’s longstanding history of supporting the underserved and under-resourced communities and further delivers on Exelon's commitment to drive economic equity and opportunity for Exelon's communities.
The capital fund is part of Exelon’s ongoing, extensive efforts to promote equity and economic opportunity in the diverse communities served by the six Exelon utilities, which include Atlantic City Electric (ACE), BGE, ComEd, Delmarva Power (DPL), PECO and Pepco. Exelon and the Exelon Foundation have a rich history of supporting underserved and under-resourced communities.

COG unveils Electric Vehicle (EV) Deployment Clearinghouse
|
A new information hub is now available to assist and guide localities across metropolitan Washington as area leaders work to implement policies and actions to increase adoption of electric vehicles in the region. COG’s EV Deployment Clearinghouse compiles resources on local EV plans and policies, operations support agreements, grant and partnership opportunities for EVs and related infrastructure, and more. The clearinghouse also includes an EV Ready Checklist to offer localities a streamlined, step-by-step overview of actions that can be taken to expand EV adoption and use.

💸 Grants for black-owned businesses with alcohol licenses (NAACP & Bacardi)
The NAACP and BACARDI are working together to provide dedicated support to Black-owned businesses in the beverage alcohol service, sales, and hospitality industries. Backing the B.A.R. is a NAACP initiative that is awarding over $350,000 in acceleration grants, education, support, and entrepreneurship solutions for Black-owned bars, restaurants, nightclubs, lounges, liquor stores, and small businesses in the process of applying for a liquor license.
If you are a Black business owner with a liquor license or real liquor license aspirations — and you need financial, educational, or mentorship support, please apply. Grantees will receive a grant of $10,000 dollars. Ideal grant recipients are looking for support in accelerating their business for the future.

💸 Commercial Property Acquisition Fund (DMPED)
The Commercial Property Acquisition Fund will provide eligible businesses with down payment assistance of up to $750,000 or 25% of the sale price, whichever is less, for the acquisition of commercial property in the District. This year, businesses will need to complete three mandatory sessions in order to apply for the Fund. OPEN now on a rolling basis until funds are expended.
