Hospitality Employers Recruitment 2021
|
The
Adams Morgan Partnership BID
is working with the
DC Department of Employment Services
(DOES), and the
Back to Work DC
campaign to support the Adams Morgan BID businesses and their workforce needs. This program was specifically designed to assist our BID’s businesses with filling their immediate staffing needs.
The Back to Work DC campaign was launched in response to the District’s unemployment rate, which is affecting thousands of DC workers. This initiative allows employers to connect directly with pre-screened, job-ready candidates to address the growing employer demand for qualified workers.
By sharing open positions with DOES using the link below, businesses will receive assistance with job postings on the DC Networks system, as well as active assistance from a DOES staff member to find qualified candidates.
Back to Work DC - Hospitality Recruitment Summer 2021 (Employer Registration)
(note: the form asks for a participation date -- leave it set to the pre-selected "TBD" choice)
An overview of this program is below.
STEP 1: Business Registration and Job Posting:
-
Register the business with the program and list all available job postings. There is no charge for the program, and employers will be able to easily enter job postings in the job posting summary area provided. Registered employers will receive a confirmation email as a guide through the next steps.
STEP 2: DOES Targeted Recruitment:
-
DOES recruitment specialists will review hiring needs and refer a list of individuals with resumes, work skills and experience. Employers should anticipate candidate referrals within ten (10) business days.
STEP 3: Interview/Hiring:
-
Upon selection of candidates of the employer’s choice, employers will be able to set-up individual interviews, virtual or in-person, with the selected candidates to fill open positions.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to follow up with Stacey Johnson at
Stacey.johnson2@dc.gov
or Kristen Barden from the AMPBID at
kbarden@admodc.org
from the AMPBID.
We look forward to your participation.

From Kathy Hollinger, President, RAMW
Here is what's happening on the Hill.
On Saturday Pelosi pledged to force a floor vote this week on the $3.5T spending bill. Unfortunately, at this point no one is talking about adding RRF replenishment to the reconciliation bill. Conventional wisdom is that if it’s replenished, it will be in a later COVID relief bill. This is why we need to keep the pressure on Congress. If you are interested in getting more engaged, please email
eden@ramw.org
. There are opportunities to author op-eds, attend events, connect with members of Congress and more. If you haven’t already, please
to easily reach out to Congress.
We understand that many of you were left out of RRF and this has been devastating for your business. We will keep this fight going until RRF is replenished and all those in need are able to pull from the fund. Today, we attended a press conference with the Independent Restaurant Coalition (IRC) and some key members of Congress, in support of this mission. It remains a top priority for our industry and we are working closely with the National Restaurant Association and Independent Restaurant Coalition to make sure additional funding is provided for all the restaurants that were left out. There is much work being done behind the scenes directly with elected officials as well as publicly to ensure the pressure remains strong.

Hire Up.
We know hiring and retaining staff is still your number one challenge. It remains true in our industry nationwide, and among many industries presently. RAMW started a “Hire Up” campaign in early summer and our team has been collecting submissions from local residents of the region who are seeking employment in our industry. We have over 100 submissions and are eager to share them with operators seeking to hire. Please email
hireup@ramw.org
to request leads organized by position. RAMW is invested in tools and community connections to support workforce development and training for our industry, and we will have details to share soon about resources coming your way.

CBE Invoicing: Deep Dive 90-Minute Training
|
September 30
at 2:30 pm
DSLBD is excited to host
CFO Services Group’s
Manny Cosme for a deep dive INVOICING training for DC Certified Business Enterprises (CBEs). Thursday, September 30th at 2:30 pm. DC businesses can join for this free, 90-minute training.

Strong invoicing practices are one key part of receiving timely payments and ensuring that CBEs are able to manage both cash flow and overall project success.
And DC-based businesses don’t have to be a CBE to listen in to this free training. DC-based businesses and DC grantees may also find this training to be really helpful as well! It is accounting software agnostic, but it will walk through some great examples of process in Quickbooks as an example of how to set up an invoicing system and follow through on reports.

By order of the DC Council, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced that the fares on the DC Circulator will be reinstated effective October 1, 2021.

DC Law Now Requires Riders to Lock Shared Electric Scooters to Bike Racks, Scooter Corrals, or Signposts After Use
|
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) today announced that
beginning October 1, 2021
, District-permitted electric scooters will be required to lock to city infrastructure when parked throughout DC.
“Because of Mayor Bower’s commitment to multimodal transportation, our city is rich with diverse available options like our electric scooters and eBikes,” said Acting DDOT Director Everett Lott. “By requiring these shared fleet vehicles be locked to certain infrastructure, and making more of that infrastructure available, we are keeping our sidewalks and public places open and free from obstruction for all to enjoy.”
While the ‘lock-to’ requirement already applies to District-permitted eBikes, the new legislation requires riders of District-permitted electric scooters to park and use the equipped lock to tether the vehicle to the following infrastructure:
-
Bike racks
-
In-street bicycle and scooter corrals
-
Parking signposts
-
Stop signs
DDOT has installed more than 800 bicycle racks so far this year and plans to install at least 1,000 additional bicycle racks on sidewalks and in-street parking corrals in 2022. District-permitted electric scooters and eBikes should not be locked to the following:
-
Bus shelters
-
Private fences or gates
-
Trees
-
Capital Bikeshare docks
-
Garbage cans
Shared electric scooter companies permitted to operate in the District will provide locking instructions and guidelines through the app used to rent their vehicles. DDOT will work with these companies to ensure compliance with the new regulation. All District-permitted electric scooters are labeled with a toll-free number people can call to report scooters parked incorrectly.
