FREE Seminar - Finding Talent and Labor Laws - March 7th

In these tough economic times, work force development is ever more important in order to maintain a level of competitiveness that current markets require.

In the Washington DC Economic Partnership's next edition of Doing Business 2.0, they will take on the topic of Finding Talent and Labor Laws. The panelists will introduce new initiatives that the local government has implemented to assist DC businesses in their hiring needs and to train DC residents for the supply of DC jobs available.

Ms. Lisa Mallory, Director of the District Department of Employment Services will be one of the guest speakers. She will go over initiatives such as the One City Hire that was introduced with the new local administration. In addition, attendees will be exposed to all the regulations and laws concerning the governance of employees.

Ms. Mallory will be joined on the panel by Grace Lee from Venable LLP and Rebecca Burtman from Beacon Hill Associates. They will cover respectively the legal aspects that employers need to be aware of and trends of what employers typically look for when recruiting.

Please mark your calendars for the SunTrust Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Marathon & CareFirst Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Half Marathon on Saturday, March 17, 2012. The course passes many of our Capital’s major attractions between the start line, near RFK Stadium at C and 19th Streets NE, and the finish line on East Capitol Street at Armory Mall.

Road closures associated with the race may affect access to businesses and residents on the course on race day . Please expect delays and plan ahead. Columbia Road in Adams Morgan will be affected between 8:30 am and 9:45 am.

More information on detours, access lanes, metering intersections/bump cross routes, alternate routes and an interactive map are also available online. The site hosts a “community contact form” where you can submit questions or request alternate directions.

Downtown BID hosts Building Energy Summit - March 15th - discount for BID members

The Downtown DC BID is hosting an Energy Summit – www.dcenergysummit.com - on March 15 from 8 am to 3 pm at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center.  There are over 130 people registered but they would like more people to attend from the rest of the BIDs in DC.
