“Climate Ready Pathway DC” Multi-Year Plan
|
Pepco’s “Climate Ready Pathway DC” multi-year plan outlines investments we will make from 2024–2026 to support a climate ready grid and enable cleaner energy programs and technologies. The plan also includes projects and initiatives that will enhance the reliability, resiliency and security of the local energy grid, as well as efforts to expand assistance to help manage the affordability of energy service for our customers across the District of Columbia.

Metro Update: Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend closures
|
Metro has announced
travel alternatives
to help customers prepare for Blue, Orange, and Silver Line closures during the Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend (Friday, Jan. 12 – Monday, Jan. 15). Over the holiday weekend, we will close segments of the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines between Foggy Bottom-GWU and Arlington Cemetery/ Clarendon to complete planned infrastructure repairs and maintenance. Rosslyn and Court House stations will be closed, and free shuttle buses will provide frequent service between all affected stations. Customers traveling through the work zone should expect significant delays and allow at least 30 minutes of additional travel time.
Additionally, due to MDOT MTA Purple Line project construction, Red Line service will be impacted on Saturday, Jan. 13 and Sunday, Jan. 14, with no train service between Takoma and Forest Glen. While the Purple Line work is unrelated to Metro, the closure will allow Metro to perform tunnel leak mitigation, replace rail ties, and complete switch maintenance.
Planned Work to Keep the Metro Safe & Reliable
During the closures, Metro crews will replace dozens of concrete grout pads, which support the rails. To complete this work, crews must remove the rails and demolish the old grout pads. New concrete grout pads will be poured, and additional time will be needed to set them up. The work will be coupled with installing new rails, fasteners, platform edge lighting, fiber-optic cables, drain maintenance, and welding rails to eliminate joints for a smoother ride.
Blue/Orange/Silver Line Service Impacts (Fri 1/12 – Mon 1/15)

Arlington Cemetery Station will be open during regular rail operating hours during this time and will resume closing at 7 p.m. for the winter beginning Tuesday, January 16.

Dram Shop Legislative Update Tuesday

Big News
: The
Dram Shop Clarification Act
, a longtime RAMW legislative priority, is scheduled for markup next week in preparation for a first reading and vote by DC Council Jan. 23.

Recap
: If passed, the Dram Shop Act would lower the costs of the District's liquor liability insurance, which is among the most expensive in the US and in some cases 100 times more than in Maryland or Virginia.

Wacif's award-winning Ascend Capital Accelerator program
, Ascend.Her is dedicated to serving women of color entrepreneurs through a holistic, multi-week program. Our hands-on approach includes interactive workshops, one-on-one expert consultations, and individualized support. Ultimately, our goal is to support the growth and long-term success of women entrepreneurs of color in the Greater Washington, D.C. region, including the surrounding counties in Maryland and Virginia.
This year’s Ascend.Her Capital Accelerator:
Lead Cohort is designed to help entrepreneurs of color navigate a complex marketplace and build resilient businesses in an ever-changing marketplace. Together, we will pause and reflect on our experiences as entrepreneurs and leaders to date while determining how to lead businesses into their next chapters of growth and development. ELEVATE Applications are now open

The Coalition for Nonprofit Housing and Economic Development (CNHED) and the George Washington University, School of Business (GWSB) are pleased to announce the launch of the fourth round of ELEVATE, a three-month executive education program designed for minority-owned businesses located in the District of Columbia.
ELEVATE is the only minority executive education program in DC that is backed by a university partner. The 3-month ELEVATE curriculum, developed by the George Washington School of Business (GWSB) Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence, is led by GWSB faculty members.
ELEVATE Cohort IV will convene twice monthly on Saturdays from February 17, 2024, to May 18, 2024, to provide best-in-class instruction to sharpen further the business acumen of the minority, female-owned businesses to enhance their competitive advantage and prime them for growth. Through this program, participants will acquire new skills that will assist them in increasing revenue and employment while also more effectively and efficiently managing their business’s products and services.

💸 Commercial Property Acquisition Fund (DMPED)
The Commercial Property Acquisition Fund will provide eligible businesses with down payment assistance of up to $750,000 or 25% of the sale price, whichever is less, for the acquisition of commercial property in the District. This year, businesses will need to complete three mandatory sessions in order to apply for the Fund. OPEN now on a rolling basis until funds are expended.
