Adams Morgan Named one of the 10 Great Neighborhoods by the American Planning Association
The American Planning Association (APA)annouced on Wednesday

that Adams Morgan has earned the designation as one of the 10 Great Neighborhoods in America, representing “the gold standard in terms of having a true sense of place, cultural and historic interest, community involvement and a vision for tomorrow” according to the APA program description. “They are places where people want to be — not only to visit, but to live and work everyday.”
"This is a great honor. It makes all the effort that went into making our sidewalks wider, our streets brighter, and our community safer worth it,” says Kristen Barden of the Adams Morgan Partnership BID. “And we’re one of the most bike and pedestrian friendly areas of the city. We're grateful that the APA recognized this and chose Adams Morgan as a Great Neighborhood.”
“Recognizing these special places highlights the role planning plays in adding value to communities,” said William Anderson, FAICP, president of APA. “Planners, working with others, help build better communities in a variety of settings, from urban to rural; the result – better neighborhoods, cities, and regions. We applaud these efforts and congratulate this year’s designees.”
“We knew we were a great neighborhood defined by energy and diversity, but hearing that we held our own compared to thousands across the country, was a proud moment for the community,” says Kristen Barden.

2) Adams Morgan PorchFest- October 18th - musicians still needed
Adams Morgan's deep musical heritage stretches from legendary jazz guitarist Charlie Byrd's appearances at the Showboat (and beyond) to the eclectic range of styles that can be heard here today. PorchFest celebrates local talent by turning the front stoops and porches of more than a dozen Adams Morgan homes and businesses into performance spaces where local musicians will play for the community -- and for free! The sounds will be spread throughout the streets of the neighborhood, making the stunning architecture there the backdrop as you follow your ears from house to house.
On October 18, 2014 from 3 to 7 pm, the stoops and porches of 15 Adams Morgan residences and businesses will serve as temporary stages for local musicians to share their talent (for free) with anyone who happens to be walking by. “Adams Morgan has a rich musical heritage, and many of our residents are working musicians -- PorchFest is a family friendly way to share their talent with the community,” says Kristen Barden of the Adams Morgan Partnership BID. Inspired by a similar effort in Somerville, MA and Takoma Park, MD.
Maps will be available in the BB&T Bank plaza on Saturday October 18th and on the FB page the week of the event.

This is a joint project with Cultural Tourism DC and will bookend Art4All DC - One City, Four Quadrants, Activated with Arts: A Festival of Festivals taking place September 26th through October 18th.
