Networking Lunch - June 6th

1) Do you have a home based business in Adams Morgan? Do you want to start-up a home based business and are interested in learning from others who’ve done that successfully? Or do you work from Tryst and wonder who else there might be based in Adams Morgan too? If you are interested in networking with other home based businesses in Adams Morgan, please join us again for lunch (the first Friday of every month) on June 6th from 12:30 to 2 pm at The Diner, 2453 18 th Street, NW, WDC 20009.

No need to RSVP, just show up. For planning purposes salads run $6.99 to 12.99 and sandwiches are $5.45 to $11.99 so lunch should not cost you more than about $15.00.

Depending on level of interest, we will move this around to different restaurants.  Hope to see many folks there on Friday June 6th.

Yoga goes outdoors in May and June

With Yoga in the Park, Adams Morgan Shows Inner Peace Can Be Found Outside.

Taking yoga out of the studio and into Walter Pierce Park isn’t much of a stretch according to organizers of  “Yoga in the Park,” happening in Adams Morgan Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 6:30 pm through May and June.

Wednesdays - Embrace Yoga DC

Thursdays - Centre Pointe DC

Fridays - Mint DC

“Yoga and other bodyweight movements are all about being centered and present. Being outside in natural settings is one of the best ways I know to accomplish this," said May Bend, Head Coach and co-owner on Studio CenterPointe.

Wannabe yogis sign up through the three participating Adams Morgan yoga studios and gyms: Embrace Yoga, CenterPointe and Mint.  "We live in a community that has perfect park space for yoga. We're really excited to bring some of the best instructors in the city to one of the best outdoor settings in the city to teach.  It's not something we do all the time, so we hope people will come try it while they can,"  said Gabriel Oran, General Manager at Mint DC.

"We have some of the best yoga studios in the city here in Adams Morgan. "Yoga in the Park" is a chance for people at all skill levels to experience them in a way that takes advantage of the beauty of the neighborhood" says Kristen Barden, Executive Director of the Adams Morgan Partnership BID.

Movie Nights at Marie Reed Field with PTA - May 20, June 10 and June 24th

The first movie of Adams Morgan Movie Nights was a huge success thanks to overwhelming support from the community.  Over 400 people were in attendance and we overheard more than a few comments about the new field at Marie Reed being one of the best outdoor movie venues in the city!

Our next screening is Tuesday June 10th with “All the President’s Men,” (#77 on AFI’s  list of 100 greatest films of all time)  followed by Wes Anderson’s “Rushmore” (“a particular treat for its skewed, hilarious memories of a cutthroat boyhood" -- NYT) on Tuesday June 24th.

Please take a moment to share this info with friends and family or direct them to adamsmorganmovienights.com. Anyone interested in volunteering, helping to promote the series, or identifying sponsors may contact us via the website (where supporters may contribute too) or by contacting the Adams Morgan Partnership BID. Again, thank you for helping to make this celebration of film a great community event for Adams Morgan.

Tuesday, June 10th at dusk : All the President’s Men - “Reporters Woodward and Bernstein uncover the details of the Watergate scandal that leads to President Nixon’s resignation.”

Tuesday, June 24th at dusk : Rushmore - “The king of Rushmore prep school is put on academic probation.”

The Adams Morgan Partnership BID is organizing this series along with the Marie Reed Elementary School Parent Teacher Association, which will be selling refreshments at the event to raise funds for the school.

There will be FREE bike valet available each night. City Bikes will help out on June 10 and 24th. Local favorites Pleasant Pops will be selling their eclectic (and delicious) homemade popsicles on site, and the Marie H. Reed Elementary School PTA will have popcorn, candy and cold drinks available.

Limited edition screen-printed tote bags containing deals and gifts from Adams Morgan businesses will be handed out to the first 150 attendees each night by City Paper Readers Poll “Best of DC” winners Meeps so get there early!
