RAMW: Updates and Tips for PPP

As of yesterday, the SBA had approved 130K loans with around $38 billion in value but it’s unknown whether any of these funds have been issued. Here is an extensive list of banks with the status of their PPP applications. Congress is rushing to issue another $250 billion in addition to the $350 billion that has already been allotted to cover PPP.

The SBA updated their FAQ document today. See below for relevant updates:

• The Gross Payroll approach should be used for both loan application and forgiveness.
• The $100K salary limitation does not include healthcare, retirement benefits, and state and local taxes.
• Applicants who use Professional Employer Organizations (PEOs) can provide payroll reports since they cannot produce individual entity payroll tax documents.
• Borrowers can calculate their aggregate payroll costs using data either from calendar year 2019 or from the previous 12 months. The FAQs also provide information for businesses that have been in operation for less than 12 months.
• Employer FICA should not be included in payroll costs.

Are you having trouble applying for Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans from your bank?

If your bank has stopped accepting applications or if you can’t apply through them due to other limitations, there are other options.

Newtek is the only non-bank, non-depository SBA certified online lender (w/ second highest SBA lending volume) that is providing PPP loans without a pre-existing customer relationship. They are still accepting applications online.

MarginEdge , has joined forces with Key Bank, a leader in SBA lending, to offer a streamlined way of transferring your accounts to their bank so you can quickly apply for a PPP loan. Free open video meetings/office hours for small businesses trying to pivot to digital

As a small DC-based business, we want to help other small businesses that are being affected by the current pandemic. We know that some local small businesses are struggling to adapt to the virtual/digital transformations required in an era of social isolation. Typically, we work with businesses of all types and sizes to leverage internet-based technology in support of their operations. Our projects range from designing and building websites to operational systems (e.g. information management, inventory tracking, customer relations systems, etc.)

We want to share our expertise by offering free open video meetings or online “office hours” to provide advice or instruction to small businesses that are trying to figure out how to pivot into the digital space. This would be a chance for our team to offer support to anyone trying to tackle a digital problem who might need professional insight from a practitioner. Some of the potential topics could include:

#PaintTheStorefronts

A message from Patrick Bonisteel, Director of Events, Busboys and Poets

With all of the uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 global health pandemic, we all need a bit of joy and inspiration -- so we turn to the artists.

Beginning on March 31st, 2020, we had professional artists, many of whom are experiencing a significant loss in pay with little economic relief in sight, painting the storefronts at every Busboys and Poets location as well as a few restaurants owned by Jose Andres. Busboys owner, Andy Shallal has been out with his paintbrushes too!

The images and messages are messages inspiring hope and joy during these trying times.

The goal is for this to become a city-wide movement! Having more storefronts painted only helps with spreading the joy to more of the people in our communities.

The ask is simple, let us know which storefront we can send an artist to and they will come with their own paint (washable) and create a beautiful piece of art, painting the outer windowpane.

We are giving a $250 stipend to each artist. Some funds are being donated from community partners but the majority of the artists are being paid by Andy Shallal. Any contributions are appreciated but not expected.
