2023 Annual Meeting and Board Elections
|
Adams Morgan Partnership Business Improvement District’s (AMPBID) Annual Meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 14th, from 8:45am to 11:00am
at
Roofers Union
, 2446 18th Street NW. A breakfast buffet will be available from 8:45am and presentations will begin at 9:30 am. Contact

Board Elections:
AMPBID holds elections every year at our annual meeting in March. The board consists of 15 seats, nine of which are reserved for commercial property owners and six for business owners. Board members are elected to serve three-year terms (unless they are replacing a board member who resigned before the end of their term). This year's election will be for 6 positions on the Board of Directors (4 property owners and 2 business owners).

There are two ways to become a board member nominee: 1) Through a nominating petition, as per the process in our bylaws, those will be accepted until February 2nd. Nominating petitions for board members must be submitted to Kristen Barden, Executive Director, at least 40 days prior to the date of the annual meeting (February 2, 2023). Petitions must have the signatures of at least 10 AMPBID members or 2) through the AMPBID’s nominating committee. The committee will present their slate of candidates at the February 14 monthly board meeting.
Postcards with information about the AMPBID Annual Meeting were mailed to all AMPBID members earlier this month. Ballots for the election will be send in mid-February after the Nominating Committee presents their slate of candidates.

Adams Morgan Valentine's Day Storefront Decorating Contest
|
The Adams Morgan Partnership BID is sponsoring our fourth annual Valentine’s Day retail storefront decorating contest. All businesses within the boundaries of the Adams Morgan Partnership BID with sidewalk-facing windows are eligible to participate.
Prizes:
1st Place $500; 2nd Place $300; 3rd Place: $100
Judging will take place on Friday, February 10.
Winners will be announced on Valentine’s Day (February 14).
Businesses are encouraged to begin decorating their windows as soon as possible. Judging will be based on originality, use of space, overall creativity, and other factors as determined by the judges.
Judging will be conducted by a panel consisting of residents and elected officials. None of the judges will have any direct affiliation with participating businesses or be members of the Adams Morgan Partnership BID staff. The community will also be able to vote on their favorites through an online poll on our website from Friday, February 10 through Monday, February 13.

Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon returns on Saturday, March 18
|
The Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon will once again make its way through Adams Morgan this year. As in previous years, the runners will enter the neighborhood via the Ellington Bridge and Calvert Street, continuing to the corner of Adams Mill Rd. and Columbia Rd. where they will turn left (east). The course continues east on Columbia Rd. before turning right on to Harvard St. and on into Columbia Heights.
Most road closures and detours on Saturday will be in effect between the hours of 7:00am and 2:00pm. Streets will reopen on a rolling basis as soon as the last participant has passed and all course support materials have been removed. Please review the

Great Streets Retail Small Business Grants now open; Awards up to $80,000
|
Great Streets
is the District’s commercial revitalization initiative designed to support existing small businesses, attract new businesses, increase the District’s tax base, create new job opportunities for District Residents, and transform 13 emerging corridors into thriving and inviting neighborhood centers. Grants can be used for a variety of improvements, including storefront renovations, equipment purchases and technology enhancements to support e-commerce.
Applications are now open and will be accepted until February 24 at 5pm.

DC Ward 2 Councilmember Brooke Pinto introduces liquor liability reform.
As we know too well, some of the most restrictive and expensive insurance requirements in the country are in the here District, in some cases costing 100 times more than in Maryland and Virginia.

These insurance requirements were not set by lawmakers but instead are results of one judge’s ruling.

, The Dram Shop Clarification Amendment Act of 2023, to bring liability requirements in line with the region and similar metro areas. Stay tuned for more information about how you can express your support.
51st State Update:
On Capitol Hill, Sen. Tom Carper of Delaware reintroduced the DC statehood bill, following reintroduction of the House counterpart by DC Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton. Carper’s bill garnered 45 cosponsors during the previous Congressional session.

The Odds:
While statehood passed the House twice in the past four years, the establishment of the Washington, Douglas Commonwealth is unlikely this coming session. Some House Republicans have even proposed ending the District’s self-governance by repealing Home Rule altogether.
RRF Tax Credit Redux:
Staying in federal news, US Sens. Ben Cardin, (D-MD), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), and Patty Murray (D-WA) reintroduced the
Restaurant Revitalization Tax Credit Act
, which would create a payroll tax credit for operators who applied for but did not receive the Restaurant Revitalization Fund (RRF).

Those Left Out
include nearly two-thirds of eligible applicants — 175,000 businesses — who did not receive funding from the original $28.6 billion of RRF grants awarded in 2021.

Commercial Property Acquisition Fund RFP is now open
|
The
Commercial Property Acquisition Fund
(CPAF), which will provide eligible businesses with down payment assistance of up to $750,000 or 25% of the sale price, whichever is less, for the acquisition of commercial property in the District is now accepting applications. This year businesses will need to complete the
Commercial Property Acquisition 101 course
in order to apply for the Fund.
Status: OPEN now on a rolling basis until funds are expended
Neighborhood Prosperity Fund (DMPED)
Neighborhood Prosperity Fund (NPF) incentivizes community development, economic growth, and job creation by leveraging local funds to provide gap financing for projects that attract private investment to distressed communities. Grant funds support architectural and engineering costs, construction costs, tenant improvements, historical preservation building improvements to maintain compliance with applicable laws, development analysis, rent abatement and/or tenant concessions for up to 3 years to stabilize market rent.

Locally Made Manufacturing Grant (DMPED)
The Locally Made Manufacturing Grant program supports local businesses that are located in a Great Streets corridor that engage in light manufacturing by providing funding for capital or tenant improvements of commercial property with a designated industrial use. This grant is intended to grow the District’s local business economy, bolster manufacturing, and strengthen supply chains within the city.

This webinar will discuss snow removal best management practices, eco-friendly de-icing products, and the Department of Public Work's regulations on snow removal (when and how).
